Sorry to hear this Gary. I was at School when your uncle signed at the same day as Neil Hood. Gordon was as hard as nails on the pitch but an absolute gentleman off it. I mean it!
If I remember correctly, he ran an ice cream van while playing for us...that made me laugh. I met him a few years later and had pint with him in the Jean Armour in Shawlands.
Sporting memories is a dementia charity that does great work in sporting reminiscence with those living with dementia. Give them a shout. It could be good for Gordon's carers too.

Hi would anyone on this thread be able to help me, my uncle Gordon Hamilton who played over 150 games for the Accies in the early 70’s has recently been diagnosed with dementia and last week he had a heart attack. I’m trying to get old pictures and team photos of him so that we can talk about his career. He can remember playing football and all the clubs he played for, his short term memory has gone. If anyone could help I’d greatly appreciate it. Gary

Hi I wonder if anyone could help me, my uncle Gordon Hamilton who was the player manager of your club in the early 80’s has recently been diagnosed with dementia and last week suffered a heart attack. Does anyone have any memorabilia that they could share with me as the more we talk about his football career the more it helps. I’d really appreciate any help on this thanks, Gary

Hi, I wonder if anyone on this thread could help me. My uncle Gordon Hamilton who played for your club in the 70’s has recently been diagnosed with dementia and he also had a heart attack last week. Would anyone have a team photograph of him as he talks fondly of his time as a professional footballer, it would be great if anyone could share. The manager at the time was Billy Lamont, the more memories we can share with him the better it is for him. Thanks Gary

Football teams are in decline, youth football and amateur football.
There are so many reasons, youths as they get older have other interests, drink, girls, playstations xbox, online, nightlife etc..
There will always be amateur football, that's for sure but it will eventually reach certain level because of the environment that we live in.
30 odd years ago we had tons of youth teams and tons and tons of amateurs as nearly everyone played football.
You'll see problems on the youth sections of their forum and by a certain extent the same for amateurs. Even the price of parks, the referee can take its toll.
Astro parks costing £100 then referee about £30-40, that's £130 odd for a game of football. Add to that there is less parks with all the new housing estates being built.
Some amateur teams are connected with the junior teams as in training beside them and some could be closer but it is hard. As long as each league are organised well and are looking to improve and ideas to keep amateur football interesting then it will add to a continued amateur football experience in Scotland.
Remember the absolutely ludicrous academy system the SFA runs0 -
Glenburns bottle crashing already
Great result for Stewarton today, heard they were struggling to field a team today as well1 -
So how do we fix it, I’ve defected to the juniors now. I’d be keen to be involved in some form of restructuring working group

After seeing the draw for the second round of the Scottish Cup today, it appears that my thoughts are correct. There was only 256 teams in the draw for round 2 today. It used to be 10 rounds to the semi finals now it’s 7, it won’t take people long to work out how many teams used to take part in the competition

I’m afraid the standard ain’t that much better in the juniors, the big problem is you have people that are refereeing that have never kicked a ball.

Who scored

Could not believe that score when I heard it. I watched first half then left to take in select match and Hurlford were up two nil. Well done to Stewarton
Great squad of boys2 -
Delighted for Stewarton today, great result lads

Although I don't manage in Ayrshire I take a keen interest in the leagues a good few of my old boys club players ply their trade there. It frustrates me that some players cant see by Hurlford/Shortlees etc and think your not good enough if you don't play for those 2. I have been surprised a Kilbride Thistle I seriously thought they would challenge but I see they are now picking up.
We played in the Kilwinning tournament against 3 premier league teams and they were all close games, we played Dirrans in the Scottish and put them out 2-0 but like other teams weve had low points this year with a couple of sore defeats but also competed against teams people had us written off against, Ayrshire is no different its the old adage 11 v 11 if you can't match the opposition with ability then beat them in effort it will even out.
As you know I watch New Farm or Stewarton if our game is off. I have said it for months New Farm wont be caught and IMO they will be a top 4 premier league team IF they keep hold of Farrel/Baxter management team. Stewarton were going great being back in the top league but I fear Gary Hamilton leaving could start a slide which im gutted about as I stay there and have for 24 year and some of the players played for me.
Our game may be off tomorrow so I hope to go see a good Ayrshire game.
I hope Onthank persevere.
I’m sure Stewarton will be fine Boab0 -
Sorry to see you go big man I try and watch the boys when I can if our game is off the job you have done should be admired
Thanks for the kind words Boab, the boys need a new voice.0 -
Fair play but bottled it when club need him
no harm but heard u took that club from dung to good
your not paying money like tarmac or colville but your coaching working hard
im a bam on here cause I hate teams paying players but you've done it your way u give up then your a bottle merchant like a thaught (so what you care what haters think) ? That's a gaffer!!
Or cause Mullen played infront the boys training all week ruffled feathers? Said this happen lol heard Mullen shite sat as well
I would have thought with your wide range of scouting network you would have known that Richie didn’t play. If you read the message from Saturday you’ll see the reasons why, but heho you’ve won 2 or 3 Scottish cups as a manager. What do I or 95% of amateur managers know, you’re the man. You inspire me to do better.1
