Caley Thistle signed 8 players from Non League in summer 2013/14, and one from Ireland, finishing 5th in the Premiership that season. I'm not saying we'll do likewise, just that there are good players at that level who can do a job. It's up to the manager to select the right players and to supplement them with a bit of experience, which we already have in the form of McGinn, Samson, Mackenzie, Eckersley and Flynn, to name just a few.

Let's see how we do before rounding on the manager shall we?

We all have our opinions, I hope we do well but have grave doubts. Time will tell.

Sunderland and Hibs both in for Mallan, he’ll go to Sunderland and make some serious money, who can blame him it’s a short career and all that.

The implication in a "short career" seems to be that after you retire from football, with another 30 or so years of working life left, you can just go to the golf course while the rest of us continue grafting.

Is that John Wark just off centre in the orange vest and scarf?

Could you imagine in any other country where not only the 2 clubs involved in that incident ( and they were notorious for that kind of thing for generations) were forbidden for nearly 40 years to enjoy a drink at the match....but every other club was punished in that way as well ?

And we continue to put up with it to this day !!

No his granny was Elizabeth Stuart, daughter of James VI.

However it doesn't really matter what part of the lineage they came from, once the Stuarts had buggered off to London all of their descendants were imposters to Scotland.

Much like lots of the Scotland International players.

While it's not as black and white as that, "hopeless" is pretty much exactly what he's looked like.  He seems to be completely out of ideas this season in most facets.

I know what you're getting at, but he's just taken a whole season's worth of shite from our players, so I wouldn't be too confident in that.

I could definitely see him being in charge for at least the start of next season.  I always said that if we did go down, I'd be slightly more inclined to keep him than if we stayed up.  Him presiding over us being completely outclassed most weeks is going to change next season with different opponents (and by change, I don't necessarily mean we'll start playing like the Harlem Globetrotters, it's just going to be different).  He's never quite taken to being able to build a squad that can truly compete.  Although we got top 6, we did so because he were the best of a group of teams that are far behind the top 5.  It was no surprise to see us get absolutely ridden for 5 games post-split.  If after this week the board decides to really rebuild, I'd be more confident in Archie being able to build a squad to cope with Championship football than to cope with, let's be frank, much better teams.

But that all needs to be liberally sprinkled with hope to work.  I think it's probably time for him to step aside.  He's done a lot for us, but I'm not sure what he's got left to give.

Normally wouldn't care a jot about Partick Thistle but your endless nitpicking and abuse on another topic has undoubtedly inspired an emotion of schadenfreude following my predicted demotion.

  6. As a neutral the game was over before half time, very disappointing but no surprise at all. If you put together a team of mainly lower league players against a team of internationalists there is only going to be one outcome. The rule of thumb traditionally is that if you are playing a team which is better than you, get the boot in as much as possible. Motherwell didn't even do that.

  7. Unless you are an owl, bat or vampire, Sportscene will likely have passed you by. It shows utter contempt by BBC to football fans with the timing of this show. Even if the presenters were decent, 11.45 on a work/school night excludes most people, unless they are a subscriber to Sky/BT. Very poor show by BBC.

  8. Would it be possible, I wonder, for a 5 year old schoolchild to be brought in to teach some of the "pundits" the past tense of certain verbs, particularly the verbs to see and to go ?  These are people earning far more than the average fan and should be nowhere near a microphone with their inarticulate vocabulary.

  9. I didn't see any of the Scotland game but from most comments it was very poor. The chap who interviewed McLeish gave him such an easy ride, more or less answering his own questions. McLeish meanwhile kept wittering on about English football, mentioning teams like Rotherham and MK Dons without the least comment from his "questioner". Why are so called interviewers terrified of , not even so much contradicting, but at least hinting that it was a bad result or a poor performance ? Of course we all know the answer, its a boys club and you don't want to rock the boat. Just as Prince Charles must think he is the worlds wittiest man, so Scotland managers must believe they are doing a fine job. Such is the level of the Sportsound journalists.

Lets see what kind of reaction follows tomorrows defeat in Hungary because unless the personnel in that line up changes , that will most certainly be the outcome. I wont hold my breath though.

If Steven Caulker got himself back up to a performance level that was sufficient to be considered for a call up then i would not have issues with it.

There have been many players over the years that have been born in other countries, represented them in friendly games, but then later on switched to another country as they are still eligable tp play for them.

As a country we can ill afford to cut of our nose to spite the face. Any and all players that can play for us should be considered, regardless of where they come from or who they have previously represented in non competitive matches.

Might as well cease International football then if players can just choose for whom they play.

Like others have said, when you stop making fairly xenophobic posts, I'll probably stop referring to you as that :) You'll likely keep doing the angry tin of shortbread act, and people will continue to pick up on it.

And I don't really have any interest in where your name comes from, or how many World Cups you've been to, or, to be honest, the "imminent relegation prospects" of Thistle.  I've got far more important things to be stressed about than that, even if you don't seem to.

Should have sussed the Thistle fan thing, lol.

Given your apparent knowledge of other leagues I have a fair idea where your loyalties really lie.

You still don't seem to have grasped the definition of xenophobia.

Sorry to hear you are stressed, take deep breaths, lol.

I'm not xenophobic, I have loads of French friends I've been to France once*

    * but only because Scotland were playing.

Lived in Merignac, Bordeaux for 2 years.

No-one asked for your tuppence worth.

Wee Blutes posting on a thread about one of them, that he clearly hates?  Colour me surprised.

We should be calling up the best players that are available to us under FIFA eligibility rules.  If it pisses off the xenophobic, even better.

Sorry but what exactly is your problem here ?  Isnt this forum for opinions ? You clearly approve of the Scotland team having non-Scots whereas I don't. Why do you have to resort to abuse every time I post ?  I really ought to treat you with the contempt you deserve but perhaps you are stressed by your teams imminent relegation prospects.

FYI I am neither small nor xenophobic. My username originates from France 1998, driving through a French village there was an undertaker so named. I had travelled over there to watch Scotland. I doubt if you have been to a WC. Please desist from cretinous behaviour.

  14. Ive never seen this chap play (never heard of him previously) but are things so bad that after 6 games apparently, we are begging an Englishman to betray his own country and play as a ringer for us ? Sorry, that's just ridiculous.

During his time at Liverpool, Lawrence won three caps for Scotland.  His international debut came on 3 June 1963 in a friendly international in Dublin. ROI won the match 1–0.

He had to wait six years for his second and third caps, a 1–1 draw with West Germany in a World Cup qualifier and a 5–3 victory over Wales in a British Home Championship  match.

During the latter appearance, his last international, Lawrence collided with the crossbar and had to be carried off.

Good info there. Lawrence was obviously one of quite a few goalies to be capped in the 60s. As an aside, his replacement in that game is famous for his name being given to the vet in all Creatures Great and Small.

Because he was world class and they were the best team. In that Liverpool team Souness was also a stand out. Just because they are English we don’t have to bash them.

Sorry, where have I "bashed" them ? I don't dispute for a second that Dalglish was a great player. As for English obsessed, check the above ICT post for a Uriah Heap type diatribe.

Souness was more of a "stamp out" due to his violent play. Wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes in the Junior Ayrshire Leagues, lol.

Theres a few absolute whoppers in this thread, such as Alan Hutton being described as World Class for example...but to doubt that Dalglish was a World Class footballer really takes the fucking biscuit, Liverpool were the best team about and he was their star man, their icon and their best player (some would say ever). Have a word with yourself.

Firstly, this is a forum for peoples opinions. My take on Dalglish and his team are mine. You have just stated that he was world class and his team the best around, as if this is undisputed fact. Please now have that word with your own self. Also no need for profanity.
