    We wuz robbed.

OK, we weren't really, East Kilbride will justifiably say they were worth all 3 points, but it was very close.

Berwick made a couple more costly mistakes than EK, and that was about it. We hit the post, battered them at the end even with 10 men, and scored 2 crackers.

Fabulous atmosphere, and a pleasure to watch. Probably a bit of extra experience nicked it in the end.

Proper Game of football yesterday and great atmosphere. Error on the stroke of half time certainly took away any momentum Berwick had. EK had the know how to see the game out that’s for sure.

Two sides who will only improve moving forward.

To summarise his 'argument' for those who missed it: The old firm youth systems are failing to produce players because they are too busy trying to win leagues and cups to give young players a chance. Therefore it is the responsibility of the rest of Scottish football to allow Old Firm youth players to play regular competitive football so that these players can then go on to play first team football, be sold for millions of pounds and allow the Old Firm to continue to financially bully the rest of Scottish football and maintain their dominance. These players can't possibly be loaned out to lower league clubs because they all play hoofball and therefore it would damage these talents to slum it with part-time clubs, they need to remain in their sheltered environment playing nice pretty triangles away to Brechin to turn into future Scotland stars.

I was listening in the car on the way back from work so may have missed a bit, but from memory I think that's how it went. Craig Levein wholeheartedly agreed, obviously.

It is an absurd argument to make, if the Old Firm can't produce players given all the advantages they have then that is entirely on them, ruining the integrity of the lower leagues to make up for their own inadequacies is not an acceptable option.

    Perfectly summed up!

Foster challenged him well saying what do you do when playing out from the back, has you 3 down in 10 minutes? The total disregard he had for Lower league football was extremely poor.

I like and appreciate the Scottish government, in the round. I do think however that they couldn't care less about football and I do think they have been a bit rigid and inflexible on the matter of crowds. This concerns me a bit.

On the other hand we have the football authorities who don't seem terribly interested in engaging with government other than as a supplicant. We need an advocate for the smaller clubs and that ain't the current authorities.

The relationship is a bit of a problem in the current things. I get that the visit of Stranraer to Cowdenbeath isn't exactly a priority for government in the present times but it'd be good to have a bit more certainty on when these things will be possible.

Football is just a microcosm of wider society. As such, it suffers from the same lack of forward plan / clarity / hope / thoughfulness that we face in the other parts of our lives presently.

I don't care about the season being paused. It's the right thing to do. I don't care if there's no more football this season as long as we have some idea as to when it's expected we'll get back in next season.

For people to buy into the collective management / mitigation of the effects of the virus they need a wee bit of hope and a general sense of when some of the things we enjoy might be possible again (based on a much clearer and more detaiuled plan of when we will be vaccinated and how long that will take). The current approach of just banning things at 24 hours notice coupled with ministerial hand wringing along the lines of "we know this is tough" isn't going to work too much longer I fear.

    Well said!

Just a slight indication of when we could go back would be grand.

Most interesting reading and thanks for posting. But don't assume all 14,000 would go to SSC members. This is the entire allocation for the SFA and players and staff entitlement would have to be deducted along with anyone else the SFA feel obliged to supply.

However if we were to apply that figure to the possible scenario that every second seat would be occupied then a member would still be fine for a Wembley ticket on seven points.

Im sure the Players, staff, sponsors of the SFA is not included in the fans allocation. Could be wrong but I think a qualifying side is allocated tickets from the main percentage of UEFA tickets.

  5. Seems like Mr Cass has got his captain and he's local so matches his criteria. Plus he's a good player.

Hopefulky more signings follow for the borders side.

Imo he's had to do something as losing good players, staff and  board members like Graeme McIver and Garry Fraser who have been at the club from the start of the clubs inception into the lowland league. Which are all a huge blow ahead of the new season.

Mind Ryan Cass is only doing what John Collins tells him.

  6. Not a peep from the club and another good player away. Letting other clubs announce they have signed your players and not thanking them for their services on a successful season is poor. Other clubs are spot on with announcing who has arrived and left their squads. Gala sound like a complete shambles from what it sounds like.

If it helps the folk on here the club have signed

Bonnar, McBride, Berry from the Vale and Herdman who was on loan at Coldstream has returned.

Also two young lads from Kelty 20's have signed who were previously at Tynecastle.

    Out so far

    Baxter - Spartans

Cunningham - Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale

Smith - Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale

    Paterson - Vale of Leithen

    Stevebson - Tynecastle

    Donaldson - Sunday Football

Not confirmed but from what's been doing the rounds is

    Watson - Spartans/Penicuik

    Miller - Berwick/BSC

    Main - CSS

    Scullion - ?

  7. Dress it up whatever way you want the new chairman used whatever he could to get rid of the management team.  3 Board members and key members walked out and rumours are the current number of players who have left off the back of the new chairman currently stand at 8 or 9!

The way Gala have conducted themselves over the issue is nothing short of shambolic. The players, board members and coaching staff have all conducted themselves professionally maybe the club should look at doing the same. What makes it worse is supporters will find out via other team's social media platforms first before they do on Gala's that they have moved on.

Absolutely agree Gogsy. The club have came through a lot more than what they encountering just now. The club will remain and be a competitive club in the league for which I have no doubt. Seems highly likely some of the comments are as you suggested. Rightly or wrongly the decision was made however that is football and much bigger teams have relieved managers of their duties and gone on to better things. Only really a couple of keyboard warriors attempting to discredit the club and the committee which is a shame as it is clear the committee do a lot for the town as a community hub.

    Move on....

As you say it's football and it happens.

However, what was being discussed at the weekend was at this level the sacrifices made by all are huge and for individuals/ players to be treated the way they have is what is baffling.

You speak about  the great work that Gala do in the community which I have no doubt about. But for 3 key members of your board to resign who have been there for years says the new chairman is having huge disregard for the clubs process and procedures.

The decision is made and you guys have to move on but the utter nonsense that was being talked about and how the chairman has been meeting players for the upcoming season, made the decision weeks ago without any board members knowing, disputing potential new signings due to them having disagreements with the new Chairman and letting good footballers leave the club due to where they are situated.

A club like Gala Fairydean Rovers has never acted like this in all the time I've known whether that be EOSL or the Lowland.

Folk can voice their opinions but from what everyone who was or is involved is saying on both side of the fence. Is a Chairman who didn't want the job is now signing players, and being a puppet for those above.

Yes of course it's never nice for someone to lose their jobs but I can't help that the young lad Hastings who is a good coach is being setup to be a mighty scapecoat if this backfires.

  9. For 8 players to walk, 2 of which looking like they'll be joining my club speaks volumes.

Also rumours up here are key board members have resigned shows this is not right. Dress it up whatever way you want but it's painted a great wee club in a shocking light.

For a club like Gala to conduct themselves the way they have is a surprise to many. 3 weeks ago the club announced it was their best season they've had in the lowland league.

Hope this new Gala philosophy that was being talked about at Bonnyrigg yesterday is a blueprint for us all. Also, a Gala player said this was setup weeks ago supposedly  and nobody new a thing about it except the new Chairman.

Interesting  times but at least it's not my club that is the laughing stock atm.

  10. I've heard 7 boys have told the club they won't be back.

Its a shame as a lovely club and had the makings of a real good side. Gala have always been a well run club but this is just madness and so out of character.

After they've had a good season and looking to build why? To move on to a higher levels he statement said. This league is only getting harder and you need to earn every point. Surely the current side showed they could compete and now looks a total rebuild.

I think they need a reality check or this new chairman does. Could be a long hard season for them now.

  11. Surely, if WW were granted a reprieve after LL vote and then the SFA said rules cannot be changed mid season. Then then same must apply for clubs having a license by 31st March to gain promotion? If thats the case.

If that were the case then surely WW would have a strong argument to stay in the league?

Selkirk going bust was not WW's fault and for all we know clubs like WW, Dalbeattie, Gretna, Uni's, Gala and the Vale could all budget just to avoid 16th place and stay in the league. Potentially, willing to take a risk depending on the results of the League 2 relegation playoff. Vale benefited from this last year.

Also, neither is the delay in licensing the fault of the clubs wishing to gain entry into the league?

    Interesting times ahead
