Wrong again getting a habit this as I did explain the reasons in fact if your League is smart with your expanded lower division next year you wil copy The SPAL you know like follow the leader  ............anyway keep up the name calling as crazy feet finds it funny

Sorry for calling you grandpa, auldyin. That was very immature of me.

I don’t have a league, but more of a supporter of leagues who are thriving. Admittedly, I have an interest in the Caley more than others as I used to be involved with a team who were members and folded a few seasons back.

Like AFF, I feel sorry for SPAFA. Not a fan of schadenfreude on this occasion.

An exciting run in, regardless of how it’s painted, tomorrow. Think Wishaw’s 12-match winning run will come to an end and St Joe’s will have it wrapped up. Virtually impossible for Wishaw to do any damage in the circumstances they find themselves in. EKYM-Giffnock, deep down, will know this too.

The reason its shown in The Premier is because they would have relegation [ obiviously not happening now ] so it had to be shown as that would have been the clubs relegated The championship no relegation so the folded clubs are removed

Amateur Footie Fan I wont reply to your pish chat at Least Brad Bodley occasionally speaks some sense

I much prefer when we’re amicable and have constructive conversations so let’s keep it this way.

Is there any consideration about Steins having a game in hand? Or is it presumed that it doesn’t really matter because they’d win it anyway? The latter makes sense, especially if Greenock win it tomorrow, but if it’s a draw and GD comes into it, it’s a bit of a shame/waste of a season, I think.

Ok I will not disappoint you the standard of your League this year is very poor based on your club performance in the Nationals / Districts Cup that you can't argue [ though you will ] and compared to Scotlands Top Saturday afternoon League

    West Cup - Winners SPAL

    East Cup - Winners SPAL

Inter League Cup - Winners SPAL

With one our clubs reaching the Scottish semi's

Not bad for a 1st season of the SPAL ......Oh let me correct you St.Pat's have won 4 in row but only the 1st time within The SPAL ...... and before you bite, going with your method of having a pop at me does that mean if they win your lower division next is that 5 in a row.

Right on cue. There he’s there.

    Thanks for the big catch.
Care to comment on the thread about Greenock and Steins, or is it too embarrassing to defend that?

I would congratulate you on the inter-league trophy win if anybody actually cared about it, but given that Ayrshire and the Caley never entered it, I’ll spare giving it much more time.

    Have a lovely weekend, grandpa.

  4. The way it’s going, my original post appears to be true.

If it was a draw, Steins still have a game in hand that won’t ever be played (?!).

I know there’s only going to be one division next season and being ‘champions’ in that league is hardly an achievement, but it’ll end up going straight to pens in the event of a draw. Any credibility the association had left is completely washed away at this point.

  5. Does anybody know what on earth is going on here? I heard last night that there's only one game left and it's Greenock vs Steins, winner takes all?

    image.thumb.png.1b9d2efdff2e5c63c04a61c4f9c72d1a.png

I heard something about them splitting the league - meaning all teams won't finish on the same games?

Some clarity and sense is greatly appreciated. I really hope the information is wrong and Steins and Greenock aren't going to finish the season without having played the same amount of games.

I took in the st pats game on Tuesday which they won comfortably to win the league. Iv also seen them a few times this season and would say I don’t think they will find the Cale 1st division easy next season. I know they will be hot favourites to win it but iv not been that impressed albeit they have a very young squad.

I wonder if a few players will go to Broomhill with Zander Diamond. I’ve seen them twice this season and been fairly underwhelmed given their reputation.
Still think it’s an incredible coup for the Caley to be able to attract a club of such calibre (alongside the three others).

I can assure you that we didn't want the league with teams forfeiting fixtures last season, it took the shine off it. I have to state tho that the two games we were awarded saw the team challenging us, awarded the same fixtures at different times of the season. That can't be helped by any of the two of us.

Last season we went on a 16 game unbeaten run conceding 13 goals withing the league in that spell. We went on a run that no one including ourselves could predict. For me winning the East spurred us on for that last push in the league.

Probably like many teams over the years, our season started to go down after the Scottish exit to Cupar followed by the defeat to Steins in the Semis. Before this season we had only lost 5 league games over 2 season but find ourselves losing 8 this season alone. Winning is the easy part, it's getting back to winning that's not. EKYM are the first team to beat us at Moray Park since Glasgow Harp on 29th October 2022.

I believe the Caledonian Premier has only ever been won back to back twice. Once by Doune and the other by Dalziel, I could be wrong. It's shows how hard it is to do. However Credit goes to our opposition teams as everyone of them came at us and we didn't handle being champions. Like they say, it's easier to get to the top than to stay there. The top of the table has a fascinating climax. For me it's now down to 3 after last night.

For us now there's no worry from my point as you know what it's like when thing aren't going your way, everything goes wrong. We take our break and enjoy time off and get back to it July. Good luck to the remaining 3 teams St Joes, EKYM and Giffnock for Saturday. Enjoy it as you never know what the next season is like.

Oh, absolutely. I don't blame Doune or EKYM. The two teams in question, who forfeited, are an embarrassment.

Doune have certainly been an excellent side for the past few years, but you've made the point well that, in such a competitive league, it's really difficult to maintain that. Hopefully Doune can rebuild and get back on track next season. If they do, it'll be completely unpredictable as to who will win the league.

I expect St Joe's will beat Wishaw on Saturday, then win the league on goal difference.

  8. EKYM’s 8-0 win against Doune Castle means Wishaw are now out of it with nothing really to play for this Saturday.

Wishaw beat Drumchapel in the league cup semi final, where they will play St Joe’s six days later, so a warm up for the final perhaps.

Worrying times for Doune Castle, conceding 7 to Wishaw (across two games), 7 to Giffnock and 8 to EKYM. 22 goals conceded in four games is shambolic for last year’s league champions.

At least this year, the league won’t be decided with forfeited fixtures.

Not allot between the ears over at Giffnock eh!!! Surely they can see that certain games need to be played first, so that everyone has the opportunity to get the trophy on the park. EKYM travel to Doune on Tuesday night. Anything less than a win there for the visitors and they are out of it. Its then over to Saturday 1st of June where St Joes take on Wishaw. Wishaw have their number so far this season and will fancy their chances. A Wishaw win means St Joes fall short and probably rule themselves out of winning it too, due to the fact the maximum they can go to is 38 points. IF EKYM get the result at Doune then any win between Giffnock and EKYM will see one of those two Champions, A draw would see Giffnock win it unless EKYM can reduce that 6 goal difference against Doune on Tuesday night. However if St Joes win nothing else matters as their goal difference is superior.

    Good summary.

I think St Joe’s are favourites given they are the only team of the four with it completely in their control.

Wishaw need a favour of Doune, then EKYM; Giffnock and EKYM need a favour off Wishaw to then battle it out between them on the Tuesday.

St Joe’s are favourites, followed by Giffnock, then EK, then Wishaw.

Excuse my ignorance - never really been into the ammies, but been watching LEAFA and Forth & Endrick for a year or two as ICT have become almost unwatchable. I'm also a watcher of the Lewis & Harris League as I visit there regularly. Why isn't the F&E league in the list?

    https://scotscores.theroonba.com/clubrank/clubrankwel.html

You’ll find the Forth and Endrick league under the Welfare Rankings section. Not classed as a Saturday or Sunday amateur league, per se.

  11. Last league fixtures now confirmed, with four teams still able to win the league going into the last round of fixtures, all playing against each other in the process:

    1st June

    St Joseph’s vs Wishaw WW

    4th June

    Giffnock vs EKYM

    -

Giffnock North appear to be having a fairly public meltdown about the situation given that both fixtures aren’t on the same day. Think there has been a weekend bender involved.

  12. Genuine question to any Stranraer or QotS (or indeed any other club in a similar boat) fans skimming through:

Does it make that much of a difference?

I know Dumfries/Stranraer to Glasgow is completely different from Inverness to *checks notes* Kelty, but generally interested about the premise, more than choice or execution of what seems quite a bizarre choice over somewhere like Stirling or Perth.

Funniest suggestion i've seen was taking on the St Pat's name. Since the ams can't get into the WoSFL. Which I don't see working out for a few reasons.

Yes, I agree, this was ridiculous. Broomhill are a total mess. St Pat's are one of the strongest amateur teams in Scotland, and also from Dumbarton, that'll be where the link ends. Zander will probably try and sign a few of their better players, but that'll be the extent of it.

  14. Just now, Basile Boli said:

Zander Diamond was Camelon manager 2 years ago and resigned from there, remember rumours at the time being he resigned with the hope of landing the vacant Stirling Albion manager’s role, which Darren Young ended up getting.

Ah, OK, thanks. That'll be where the Gordon Wylde connection comes from then.

I'm sure he'll be glad it's fairly local.

While we're on the topic, is there any chat of any teams having applied to the WoS (though I'm aware there's no space)? Any managers making the step up to the likes of Ashfield?

  15. One thing that's always perplexed me about the Caley, that I think SMAFA do quite well, is releasing fixtures four weeks in advance, with a disclaimer that the national and district cup weekends will come at a week's notice. Seems absolutely crazy that teams appear to have been given free weeks twice this month, fixtures are fairly sparse when there's hardly any left as it is, and yet they've still not released a list of fixtures so that teams can plan ahead at the 'business end' of the season.

St Pats manager moving to LL with nomads Broomhill. St pats missed out to Knightswood last year joining the WOSFL. Not sure I can see Broomhill changing to St Pats as suggested. Wonder if any players would be able to make the jump. Huge step but Broomhill signed a young boy from an amateur team last year, not sure he played at all thou.

    image.png

I don't think he was their manager - more of a First Team Coach/Assistant Manager. The suggestion from Ben is just obscene, really, especially in the context of how we wasn't particularly complimentary of the 'rebrand' Broomhill/BSC Glasgow went when they got into bed with Open Goal. Broomhill are a fairly soulless club, they need to get back to playing in the West End and establish connections there. That's for a different thread though.

I'm not sure what Zander has done in football apart from his stint at St Pat's, but good luck to him. St Pat's, I'm sure, will be fine. I don't, for one minute, entertain the fact that this is an amateur to 'semi-pro' progression, and is more due to the fact that it's Zander Diamond, a local boy, rather than any affiliation with an amateur team.

A 16 team league is a lot for amateur football. 30 league games a season is in my view a bit too much considering factors like pitch quality through winter, and potential for national cup runs from several of the teams in that league. Maybe 14/14 would have been better?

I agree. But they've just recently changed the Premier League to 12 teams, as a way to reduce fixture backlog at the end of the season for the teams who are going to go far in the Scottish and East/West. This doesn't seem to have had the desired affect, given that the league will still be ongoing at the start of June. With the calibre of teams in the First Division next year, I can foresee the worst backlog of all time, with the likes of St Pat's and Bannockburn progressing far (on paper, anyway) in the Scottish & West + two league cups and 30 league games.

The only shining light on the whole situation is that half of the teams in both leagues either play on astro or have an astro available as an alternative for their games which has historically been a problem in the Caley.

Can see s few clubs from that Divison folding or leaving by this time next year after getting skelped a few times

as for the drum a mis calculation by Charlie Bhoy lol

A miscalculation for going to a more competitive league with better quality (which will only continue to grow, by the way)? The Drum facing more competition in the Caley First Division than what they would in SPAFA? Do me a favour. At least try and hide your jealousy. As for the teams folding, glass houses and stone throwing comes to mind.

Again, how can Cupar Hearts not be the No 1 amateur club in the country mate?  I pointed out the anomaly ages ago but instead of going up to the top they go down in points, despite winning the national Cup again. Clearly your base assessment of the Kingdom League is too low and as a result Cupar's unbelievable record is undervalued.

The quality of teams that Cupar Hearts play, on the whole, is drastically lesser than the teams St Pat’s and Castlemilk play. I do take your point that they’re ‘probably’ the best in the country, as back to back Scottish Cup wins would suggest, but they’re naturally going to struggle to score points on this algorithm because they’re not playing great teams every week, whereas the SPAFA teams are, more often than not, playing top 20 teams most weeks.

Imo the Hampden pitch is too big and it ruins the spectacle. Obviously for the players it's a great feeling to play at Hampden but I don't think playing the game there does much at all for the spectacle, pace and quality of the game.

I wholeheartedly agree. Fir Park, Easter Road, Tynecastle, etc. all surely much better options.
