  1. Some pics and info on the new Kirkintilloch ground. Certainly better than a cage though apparently needs bigger nets/fencing behind the goals (wonder how many balls will be lost to the canal!) - similar to Kelty you could add more cover etc so I can see why one club would want to make sure it is "theirs" before investing in the facilities.

Am I being daft or should the Celtic 2nd goal not have stood? Surely the Celtic boy coming back from an offside position is interfering with the play making the Killie boy play the ball?

"Making" someone play the ball (i.e. a defender deciding to play the ball so that it doesn't end up at a striker) is not a criteria for interfering with play though, Hatate did not challenge or impact/prevent the defender playing the ball. https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/offside/#offside-offence

Provided of course that it is deemed a deliberate play by the defender as per law 11 above. Would need to see it again once it's on iPlayer.

What a heap of shite they're coming out with to try and justify the decision. Clear offside as Hatate touching the ball dictates where the ball ends up whether he means it or not. Since when has intent to play the ball mattered when someone has actually connected with it while in an offside position? Guaranteed that goal gets called off if it happens at the other end

If the ball is deliberately played by the defender then it doesn't matter that Hatate is in an offside position.

  3. Great work by Elmo once again, this time removing the headlines of linked articles from tweets. Someone just posted a link to a news site without any other text, so the tweet was simply a generic stock photo with the url in the corner and nothing else.

Whole thing avoided if he just says "Liverpool player is ONside" instead of just "Check complete"

Who would have known VAR would be such a mess

VAR in this case was there to try and fix the mess that AR1 created by incorrectly flagging a goal for offside. 5 years ago that would've been the big talking point, and people would've been asking for technology to come in and help.

As a talbot fan, i totally agree with you. Many times over the years we've found ourselves asking the question why we didnt play more games earlier in season when had the chance. Can assure you playing 3 x week at the business end of the year is obviously hard on the players but asking fans to attend 9 games in 21 days is a bit much too. Instead of a game every nearly 2 days. A couple extra games earlier in season would at least ease that pressure. Cant count how many times i've heard the term "punished for being successful." But i dont need to worry too much about that this year, it's your problem now 🤣

You'll be pleased to know that most clubs have played 4 league games more than this time last season.

Other than the very obvious communication problems, I don't understand what the point of the assistant raising his flag is when the goal is scored.  It will be checked anyway and that has undoubtedly played it's part in someone else fucking up badly.

What are you on about, the AR has judged it as offside so that's the on-field decision and needs to be communicated to everyone on the pitch, in the stadium and in the VAR room. He's made a mistake but until VAR corrects him that's the call that stands, just as it would be in a game without VAR or if VAR goes down.

  7. This is the kind of bad communication and process that would kill people in safety critical roles in aviation and on the railways, fortunately lessons have been learned over the years so things are clear.

You have people wanting less delay to the game due to VAR, but then here the VAR goes too quickly, neither the referee nor VAR verbalise that the on-field decision is offside (which we've heard before in other scenarios) and check complete is just said on its with no other explanation like "onside".

Also because the 2D lines were used as it was an obvious offside, there was no delay whilst the offside graphics were produced so the VAR could go straight to "check complete".

Game vs Stonehaven apears not be listed on the SJFA website. Fixture list tweeted out by club today also doesn't include it so I assume it's been scratched.

It was on the fixtures tweet the SJFA put out yesterday, thought they were maybe going to try and play both games using U20s or something. Quite funny that Camelon re-entered the cup and have ended up not playing a single game...

Your forensic examination doesn't excuse the fact that Kilwinning Rangers don't have a game to play this Saturday. It's madness at a time when games should be getting played to prevent potential fixture congestion later on in the season.

Well cup weekends inevitably mean that there's a chance that someone will be idle if there's an odd number of teams left without a game, e.g. Kilbirnie were idle on 23/9 when you were in the Scottish Cup. There's three First Division teams idle on 14/10 as well due to the SRCC.

Finally, the Junior Cup has been put on a par with the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup, the Strathclyde Demolition Cup, the South Challenge Cup and the West of Scotland League Cup. All thanks to a vote by the clubs in the WoSFL.

Only thing is, why are the last 64 and 32 of the SRCC on 14 October and 18 November not left blank in the fixture list at the start of the season, when same the stages of the Junior Cup are left blank?

Very far from ideal having no game this Saturday, but additionally because of cup competitions it would seem that we don't have a league game during the whole of October. This is a crazy situation.

Whilst we cannot apportion our relegation to anybody but ourselves, it was this type of fixture scheduling that led to a build up of league games towards the end of last season and must have contributed in some way to our eventual demise.

Well two of the four Saturdays are outside the WOS control (SRCC and Scottish Cup), the one in between is the WOS Cup and the first weekend has been explained above.

This time last season you'd only played 5 league games so you're already 4 ahead of that. At the end of November you'd only played 8, and 10 by the end of 2022.

  11. The three games that could be brought forward are Blantyre v Cambuslang (10/2), Blantyre v Kilwinning (27/1) or Kilwinning v Cambuslang (2/12), presumably these would need both teams to agree.

Your league opponents may have a similar situation next month, when you make it through in the SRCC as there's league games scheduled for 18th November.

With October being dominated by cup ties, would it not make sense to squeeze in one of two midweek league games under the lights before the frost comes?

Maybe, though Talbot are four games ahead of where they were this time last season and out of a cup, plus the league is on par with the EOS (but they do have a midweek round in a couple of weeks).

Would make sense to try and get some Beith games played away under lights so they don't fall behind, same with anyone else in the Scottish Cup.

  13. Presumably this is because both users of Huntershill, West Park United and Rossvale, are at home in the Junior Cup next Saturday, so instead of moving to the Friday/Sunday Rossvale have found an alternative ground. Maybe Kirkintilloch Sports Complex only opens from October so it's just unfortunately that Rob Roy don't have another home game until 11th November.

However saying that, it appears Rob Roy did have a SRCC home game on Saturday 14th, but it was switched Hurlford as Cumbernauld United were at home as well...

    League should take preference surely.?

Well that's what has happened with previous clashes for other clubs (unless the league opposition agree to move) so unless Stonehaven/SJFA move the Junior Cup game then Camelon will have to forfeit and end up not even playing a game in the competition.

Considering the Forth Rail bridge wasn't completed until 1890 and the Scottish Cup started in 1873 there must have been one team came across by the Forth ferry I would have thought. But I can't be arsed to do the research!

The first Scottish Cup game involving teams from across the Forth was St Clement's (of Dundee) v 3rd Edinburgh RV in 1876 played in Kirkcaldy, presumably they'd have got the ferry from Granton to Burntisland then onwards by train.
