  1. Interested to see how Adama Sidibeh gets on,a massive step up from Northern premier league, even more remarkable that last season he was further down the pyramid in nw counties but seen him play a couple of times this season, big fast and direct with a massive leap.  Make no mistake the northern premier is a tough division and would say followers of the league will watch his progress with interest

Flurry of transfer activity at Galabank this week.

Lewis Hunter returns from his antipodean adventures and will no doubt take up his customary place on the bench!

James Graham (Forward) signed on loan from Rangers B. We seem to have had a few loanees from Ibrox, possibly due to the John Joyce connection, but none of them have really set the astroturf on fire. Exception to this was Andrew Mitchell who I think was here on three separate occasions before returning to NI.

Also the word on North Street it is were are apparently bringing in a teenager from Carlisle - Kai Nugent. This lad is highly rated but has been injured since July so looks like he will fit in well with the rest of the walking wounded.

    Ca Plane Pour Moi!

Got an absolute cracker in Kai Nugent only small but not afraid to mix it ,wished he had come back to Workington was fantastic last season in the promotion run in

  3. Safe journey down to Cumbria for anyone travelling tonight should take just under 3 hours. Hot food and drink is available in the bar at the ground and alcohol can be consumed on the terraces during the game. Small amount of parking at the ground but personally I've always used the opposite tesco car park with no problems. Unfortunately for myself wont now be at the game due to a change in work shift patterns but there is a interactive live scoreboard available on the reds website and social media  which regularly updates during the game. Our season doesn't start until second week in August so expect a mix of first teamers ,youth and trialists but should still be very competitive

It has been a long time in coming but this is the second leg of the friendly with Workington which I attended at Boghead on 5th August 1969, with the chance for the Sons to avenge that 1-2 defeat.  Aye, we've both had our struggles since then but at least we are both still drawing breath.  IIRC it was Wimbledon who replaced the Reds in the Football League, I can hardly believe that was 45 years ago.

According to the excellent Sons Archive website Alex Rollo played 41 times for us, his debut being the incredible League Cup 1-8 defeat to Brechin at Boghead on the opening day of season 1956/57.  Barry Diamond was something of a teenage prospect when he joined us but he departed before ever playing for what was at that time a good first team squad - did he not also play for Barrow in the North West ?

I've been looking at old pictures of Boghead looked a fantastic old school ground, our ground still looks like its stuck in a time warp.

Barry diamond must have went to Barrow as a young teenager came to the reds for 2 seasons then returned to Barrow and scored a lot of goals that got him into the football league with Rochdale ,then played with a lot of non league clubs around Manchester area, I assume settling in down there. As far as I know the Rollo family stayed down here and one of his sons was actually a board member a few years ago.

Reading up on the history of Dumbarton reminds me of my terrible lack of knowledge of Scotland and football teams that I've known all my life I would struggle to locate geographically. Come retirement a venture into Scotland's football world will be an aim

  5. Hello workington supporter here, been looking at your club in light of what seems like a very random preseason game for both clubs, however would think the teams will be of very similar standards and should be a decent work out. For those who dont know Workington lost football league status in 1977 and since have meandered around the English non league scene, now marooned in the NPL north west after missing out on the title on the last day and then losing the play offs, things might be improving with the return of former manager Danny grainger and crowds at the back end of the season going over the 1000 mark. Many Scottish players have played for the reds over the years with lots settling into the area, loose connections an old neighbour of mine Jimmy Scott played for dumbarton in 1951 ,Alex Rollo finished his career at Workington and striker Barry Diamond one of the first players I remember watching in 1980 was born in Dumbarton.  Shame the game is a Tuesday night but hopefully a few will make the long trip

  6. Interesting reading the different opinions on Peter Murphy who is obviously still well thought of here in Cumbria. As a follower of Workington afc I take an interest in the cumbrian players up at annan and just wonder whether the international clearance aspect is a big factor on players not always willing to cross the border, this would probably stop loan deals from carlisle utd as well. Would have liked to see you down here for a friendly but it looks like Just Dumbarton this preseason, good luck anyway Moxon is going to be a massive miss for you

As a supporter of Workington afc has Danny Grainger been confirmed yet?, if so you will be gaining an excellent coach who has transformed a relegated club with no direction to an entertaining successful team. Both seasons would have seen the team promoted but for covid ,loves to play from the back, good communicator with players and fans and cant thank him enough for the last 2 years. I expect you'll gain a few fans who like a good trip out. Good luck next season

Not yet, it was interesting that he said it was an opportunity he couldn't turn down, would coming to us as assistant be that big a jump for him?

He always talks up Scottish football and still loves Hearts so going to Scotland he will see as a step up. In terms of standard of football  and looking at players I know I imagine Workington at the minute are a slightly better team than say Annan athletic so it is still a step up. We always thought he would leave to go to Carlisle though and a lot of their supporters I know would take him tomorrow
