Bring in playoffs to limit dead rubber games would be my choice.

3rd bottom, with 3rd,. 4th and 5th fighting it out for the last promotion place of a 3up 3 down scenario.

Inter divisional playoffs are a mess because they dont know how many are coming up or down from the lowland. 3rd to 6th in playoffs might be good though.

I suppose they can say 5 down / 3 up if no net gain/loss of clubs to the LL. If there is a net gain of 1, they could go down to just 2 promotion spots, or even a play-off between 3rd placed Div 3 team & 6th bottom Div 2. A net gain of 2 would be very unlikely really, especially as Gretna would be relegated to the SoS and I can't see past them finishing in the bottom 2 of the Lowland League.

I dont think its ever right to have flexible promotion spots as teams need to be able to celebrate promotion knowing that theyve gone up or not. The flexibility should always be at the bottom.

Three up three down between the divisions next season apparently. If Darvel do the business against Tranent I wouldn't be surprised if the three promoted Conference X teams do it again next time around judging from this season's cup performances.

Are they not going to relegate more to even out the leagues?

..... but seriously. It's possible that in twelve months time the EoS will have a Net Gain of One additional club from the LL.

Also, if there's still only one promotion place up to the LL from Tier 6, the EoS could have a Net Gain two clubs from the LL - especially if the WoS Champions take the single promotion place.

Presumably, if the above happens, additional clubs will be relegated within the EoS's Divisions in order to maintain 16 clubs per Division, apart from the bottom Division?

I hope that the bottom Division does not fall short of enough clubs to keep it viable. Playing against each other three times/season is OK short term but it isn't ideal.

Any idea if the EoS might follow the WoS example and take in clubs which have plans in place to meet the ground criteria but aren't there in time for 2022/23? Apparently one or two clubs in the WoS Development Division have been given allowed a couple of seasons to get things fully in order.

Hopefully they will look to reduce the 2nd division to 16 the following year which would add a couple of clubs to the 3rd.

It would be a Club 42 type format apparently with the bottom HL club playing off against a winner from the licensed champions of the feeders. What isn't clear is how many clubs the HL intends to operate with moving forward so it may take a while before there is any need for relegation.

Another thing to consider is how the playoff can work when they dont know how many clubs the league 2 playoff will leave them with.

  6. I dont understand how a relegation play off can work when they dont know what's happening at the top of the league. If they have a net loss of one club is it cancelled? Do they have to wait two weeks to see what happens? Bizarre. Given they havent yet reached their club limit why are looking at relegation at this point anyway?

This time last year we were hearing of club after club announcing that they were leaving the WRJFA for the WOSFL before we reached a grand total of 63 clubs + 4 other clubs.

This season there is a deathly silence with just a few murmurs that a cohort of Amateur Clubs will be applying to join the WOSFL. But the only firm applications to date appear to be from:

    * Kilbride Thistle
    * Harthill Royal

In contast in the EOSFL we are almost into double figures with those clubs seeking to move to the East of Scotland.

Just wondering why there is so little Twitter / Facebook activity on prospective WOSFL applicants and above all why we are currently devoid of any rumours?

    Will they come?

Surely just that there are no junior clubs left to move?

Amateurs are much more at risk of being rejected due to the ground criteria. Better not to announce an application than to announce and then get rejected I would have thought.

But... surely that's the whole point of a pyramid system (or at an even more basic level, of the principle of promotion and relegation)? To allow teams to move up or down till they reach a level they are comfortable with, and can hopefully be competitive at.

Not to operate as a quasi closed shop, forever finding (often flimsy) excuses for salvaging teams which are patently out of their depth, and have been for a considerable time.

And for the sake of balance... not to prevent (via self-interested gerrymandering) ambitious clubs being able to progress in the other direction, provided of course they get it right both on and off the field.

    🐰

I agree completely. It needs to be more open at every level as there are bottlenecks all over the lower tiers. What I disagreed with is the idea that a LL2 somehow provides a safety net for poorer Lowland league clubs.

I think it shows why some people are sceptical of having the Junior Cup/SJFA involved in the pyramid. Its weeks since the meetings and he's still pitching the Junior Cup v SCC as one or the other. Which just continues the divide between clubs on a certain level.

The WOS statements definitely said everyone would enter the SCC and the junior cup would be played midweek.

    Your points are pointless.
    Things have moved on.
    A compromise has been reached.
The LL WOSL is going ahead which is exactly what you've been after.
Perhaps not with the destruction of the SJFA that you'd hoped for, but it's happening nonetheless.
It seems you're not as important and influential as you'd like to believe.
In fact, you're a sad, insecure and insignificant individual that hates not getting what you want. Put the dummy back in, sit back and enjoy the new Future of the Juniors.

    But they won't be juniors...

    1. There will be a new WoSFL next season constituted under LL rules. (EOS/SOS model) .
    2. The Primary competitions will be the League and the South Cup.
    3. Unless there are Junior teams that don't want to join, there will be no further need for a WRJFA as they will have no disciplinary matters or leagues within their jurisdiction. New committee will be formed to run the new WOSL.
    5. The SJFA constitution will need to be amended to allow senior players to take part in the SC and the rule compelling clubs in membership to take part in one of its leagues.
    6. SFA LL EOSL SOSL have the veto to the change in playoff rules to the LL.
    7. IM email does carry some weight but don't think it's a silver bullet but it was referenced.
    8. The two options will not be put to a vote at the SFA AGM. This is the only show in town for pyramid entry in the west.
The main arguments from Tuesdays meeting were debunked
    Cherry Picking - Won't happen.
Being omitted due to ground conditions--won't happen clubs will be given leeway to comply.
Mood seemed conciliatory between GR & GF and clearly there are still tensions and details to be ironed out, but both parties seem to be focused and willing to get it done.

Looks good to me. I just wonder how non junior applicants will be slotted in.

The beauty of this of course is that clubs can stay in the Juniors if they aren't comfortable with a Conference system (or any other aspect of the WoSFL).

    They have a choice.

Is that not another way of saying it's our way or the highway?

Well it's either conferences next season or come in at the lowest level in a year or two. It's for the clubs to decide.
