When we had a hard fought draw against Kilwinning I didn’t see Kilwinning struggling in the league the way they did .

I was at that game and thought the buffs were the better side by a good bit.

knee jerk reaction imo but we’ll never know. Certainly a poorer side 2nd half of the season going by performances and results

You haven't seen enough of the Buffs to form that opinion. You'll find no agreement with me or any of the Buffs regulars.

That’s fair enough, and it’s all about opinions but I played and watched enough to have one and you can’t tell me that they have improved under the new man, unless points and performances don’t count

I'm not sure who you follow, but I watch Buffs home and away on a regular basis. Gormley's demise began in a heavy defeat at Clydebank and went from bad to worse. He had to go.

Tonight I reckon he signed Boland, Marc Miller, McCalaman, Chris Millar, Blair McIntyre and Dylan Mackin who all started tonight.

Don’t follow anyone in particular tend to pick games saw buffs four or five times under Gormley Tranent, Pollok, Forfar, and was at Clydebank when it was pretty even until they gave away a penalty down to 10 men and one player sold two goals on top of that, and thought they were a decent side to watch.

Have seen them under Aitken three times and to me they don’t look like a team.

I thought Gormley got rid of McCalman and Aitken brought him back.

1st division will not be an easy league to get out of.

    That's us officially relegated.

Our problems this season have been obvious to all, we score goals, but we ship many more. We've just not been able to defend properly, that's the story of our season.

Unfortunately David Gormley underestimated the league and signed too many players that just weren't up to the task

Chris Aitken arrived and had to work with what was there. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough to work with.

Nobody would have put much money on Buffs being in this position at the end of the season. Plenty of lessons to be learned.

I'll miss the big games, especially against our Ayrshire rivals. Away crowds will be down, standard of entertainment will be down, likely to be watching a poorer quality of football in poorer facilities and poorer pitches.

Still, we have no time to feel sorry for ourselves. Time to regroup in the Summer and make sure we are ready to hit the ground running for the start of what's going to be a very difficult season.

Gormley’s team pre Xmas were a better side than what you finished with imo, and would not have lost to half the teams that beat the buffs in the 2nd half of the season.

Out of interest how many that started tonight were Gormley’s signings ?

2 of the defenders that started last night were Gormley signings I believe.

That's not really the point though. The point is that he made plenty of signings and blew the budget on players who just weren't good enough or didn't work out.

If you had watched the Buffs at any point this season you would have known that central defence was a huge problem.

As it is, the new manager doesn't have the luxury that Gormley had of putting a side together, he's been constrained by having to work with the tools that he's been given.

A couple of things in context, I acknowledge that we've struggled since Chris Strain was dismissed, that was evident in the team we fielded in the West final last season.

Bottom line is, Gormley brought in a number of players who just haven't been good enough and, ultimately, that's why we are where we are.

I know on a previous post you said you didn’t know about budgets.

I do know that when a budget is set for the season it is divided by roughly 40 weeks at x amount per week which determines players weekly pay budgets are not blown in a oner at the start of the season.

if your weekly wage bill is maxed out to bring another player in you need to get one out the door if your budget is cut then you need to get players out and can’t get anyone else in.

The new boss could have got players out and brought players in unless…….

Hope that helps clear that up.

You could well be correct. There would appear to be somebody related in some way to the previous management team, who commented on this thread that the then management team asked for a new goalkeeper and were told to play the u20 goalkeeper by somebody on the committee.

Said person also said to watch the Cumnock highlights, Gormley's last game in charge, to highlight the mistakes Henderson made that night.

Firstly not related to any of the previous management in any way and secondly the reason I asked you to watch the Cumnock game was Cumnock’s first 3 goals were goalkeeping errors whether it be from a 35 year old or 19 year old makes no difference and yet the manager and the defence got your blame. I watch a lot of games at this level and know a lot of people at this level hence the reason I’ve been privy to information that is not necessarily public knowledge all I read was a manager carrying the can for results 3 months after he’s left the club and in my opinion should have been given more support when it was needed.

In my opinion he would have collected  a good few more points than the 6 points that have been gathered in the  9 games since he left considering a number of them were against so called weaker teams at home.

I also see that 3 of the defence that played last night were not his players yet still blamed.

  7. Good, get it all off your chest gents, anything else ? what about the budget being cut ? what about being told to play certain players ? What about asking for a centre half when it was needed and be told no. What about asking for a goalkeeper when the no 1 got injured and told no

won’t fit your agenda will it

Are you still here? You seem pretty bitter whoever you are.

Bitter, not at all makes no odds to me whether the buffs stay up or go down but what I did find distasteful was the assassination of a decent guy and a hard working young manager who got some things right and some things wrong and by all accounts did not get the support he needed when it was required.

  9. 38 minutes ago, funky monkey said:

A point per league game and regular pumpings with no signs of improvement? We played nobody much in the cups other than Tranent in the senior Scottish.

You've left the debate whilst making no particular point?

I left the debate to avoid a circus, remain respectful, and not shoulder the blame on individuals when there was a lot wrong throughout the club.

as for the point per game again without being disrespectful what’s the current regimes point tally per game ?

The goalkeeper scenario is a complete red herring.

Let's focus on the defence and the manager's inability to deal with the problem.

The reason that I blame Gormley is that he came to the Buffs and more or less created a player merry go round. The players who had remained at the club were more or less cast aside for the new players brought in.

Effectively the quality of player brought in was nowhere near the standard required for the WoSPL.

Ultimately the budget was blown and nothing left for the remainder of the season.

Things really started to go wrong at Clydebank when Gormley eyeballed the supporters. It further deteriorated when he kept playing a certain player who was struggling badly, which wasn't doing the player any good, the team any good and relationship with the fans any good.

The new manager has had to work with the mess that he inherited. The team is better organised on the park, playing for each other and from what I can gather enjoying coming into the club when previously they weren't. I've no issue with Gormley as a person and I wish him all the best, but he was a disastrous appointment for the Buffs.

Player merry go round, they couldn’t field a team for a cup final due to previous going ons.
Things started to go wrong in league game number 9 🤷‍♂️ on ten points and in all cups bar the Scottish.

You crack on if it makes you feel better, I’ve only dealt with the facts I know of.

    Over and out.

    My mistake about Darvel away.

Pin the blame on individuals? I'm pinning the blame on the former manager who was well backed financially by the committee.

There were obvious weaknesses in the team that the manager failed to address resulting in heavy defeats to Clydebank, Darvel, Talbot and Cumnock.

The under 20s goalkeeper was let down at Cumnock by the shambolic defending in front of him. Experienced players, signed by Gormley, let the young keeper down badly. Henderson will go on to become a very good goalkeeper for years to come, hopefully at the Buffs.

The new management team are curtailed by the inability to bring in new players due to budgetary constraints brought about by the spending of the previous manager.

Cumnock highlights are on youtube if you want to watch them and change some of your comments !

Your prerogative to blame who you want to blame but with 60% of the season I find it strange you pin it on someone not there.

As for well backed financially by the committee I believe that was the case to start with but changed very quickly hence not allowed to bring a goalkeeper in when requested and on that note the young goalkeeper was replaced by not one but two different trialists immediately after the Cumnock game.  So who was it that let him down badly...........

We've still got to go to Beith and Darvel.

It's a must win tomorrow night, no it's and no buts.

We've got goals in us, but we just can't defend. We've had no settled defenders all season. We've had 4 or 5 goalkeeper. I've never seen this at Buffs before, even in the down the league's/ yoyo seasons.

We have enough to keep us up, but that starts with 3 points tomorrow night. We can't feel sorry for ourselves.

Already played Darvel home and away.....!

Team put in the effort and created chances. Probably our precarious position that led to snatching the chances. Whilst the effort is good, defending is terrible. To equalise and lose a goal a minute later is tough. The third goal simply very poor defending.

No more hard luck stories. Despite the lack of recovery time, we've got home advantage on Wednesday night and really must take 3 points from Petershill.

Nobody at the start of the season would have had Buffs down as relegation candidates. David Gormley left us in one hell of a mess.

Easy to pin the blame on individuals but I've heard it all now, under David Gormley the team had played 12 games with 13 points and for a number of them had to play the U20's keeper as per the committee. The team had 18 games left and were not in the position they now find themselves.

The new regime have played 8 games with 5 points against on the whole so called weaker teams so rather than improve they have going by their results got worse.

Knee jerk reaction is why they are in their current position.

Well if things go well today, west clubs would have the opportunity to join the Lowland U20 Development League where every signed player is also classed as part of the senior squad, so they're interchangable, with over age players allowed upto 6 appearances for the U20 as well.

U21 football is pretty much disappearing.

U21 football is disappearing for a few reasons, the first one being that there will be a number of boys already  playing in the development league that you mention and because of the lack of money in the junior game their squads are littered with younger boys who would have been playing 21's, although if your good enough then your old enough. It also doesn't help that the 21's also play on a Saturday afternoon.

The development league is a great opportunity for clubs to ensure that they are capturing good boys coming through, however meeting the criteria may be difficult for a lot of clubs wanting to go down this route.

What about Carluke Rovers who lost 9 of their first team with the manager only a month ago  and beat Larkhall yesterday 4-2?

Good result,  although referee more than made up for the 9 players who left. Worst I've ever seen.

No doubt who the man of the match was last night. Larkhall keeper, who I believe is not even first choice, had 8 excellent saves last night plus had one saved off the line.  We missed a pile of chances whilst Larkhall took advantage of our defensive sloppiness in the first half to go 2 up.  Well done to them.

Pretty fair assessment it was definitely a good defensive display in the second half by Larkhall and in particular the goalkeeper however felt had the right choices been made in the final third by larkhall in the first half the game would have been over as a contest by half time.

Yeh this correct as the 2 players clashed heads in a coming together which caused the blood but for the Larkhall lad to turn round and punch the carluke lad putting him out cold for some time is acceptable in your eyes??

At no point have I said anything is acceptable. I am only stating the fact that there was an incident prior to the alleged cheap shot and it was not a clash of heads.  The picture you paint might be slightly different from what actually happened.

Reports were an off the ball incident ?

Larkhall player took a cheap shot punch at the Carluke player off the ball when the young guy wasn't looking....coward

Would that be the Larkhall player who is off to hospital to get a number of stitches in the back of his head that happened when he wasnt looking

Should have seen red last night............

Maybe was other side from me but so should have Larkhall player in the first half but there can be no argument the better team won on the night

Disappointed  as I thought Larkhall tried to play a bit more football,  however St Rochs were more direct and looked more threatening in the final third and the striker took both his chances well.

Been the same story so many times in the 2nd half of the season.

Who was the number 23 for StRochs last night? He played at right back, then switched to left back. I know this lad from somewhere but can place him? His name and previous teams would be great? Looks like a young Robbie Keane

It's the wonderful Tam Hanlon previously of Ballieston , Shotts and Pollok among others

Should have seen red last night............
