If the league remains unchanged then so does the prize money. Ultimately these clubs don’t care about what the league they play in is called so long as the prize money isn’t reduced due to increasing the size of the SPFL.

I could be wrong here but with the new improved Sky TV deal starting next season then surely the money is there to accommodate two extra clubs in a 14-14-16 without reducing the prize fund for the existing 42?

Is the prize money for all existing 42 members of the SPFL getting an increase next year?

There was something similar in the SFL after East Stirlingshire had finished bottom so many years. After 2 years the club would be downgraded from full membership, but then they'd need to finish bottom another 2 years before being expelled.

Aye I remember East Stirling being used as the example. So basically East Stirling would've been chucked out and then there would've been a ballot like when Gretna folded.

  3. I grew up with the Scottish Leagues being a closed shop so I'm still at the stage where I think it's great that there's even a small opportunity for new clubs to come in to the SPFL.

Here's a wild suggestion but I'm sure that the SFA considered something like this in the past. How about if the same club finished bottom of League Two for two seasons in a row then they automatically go down, no need for a playoff? This of course would've meant Cowdenbeath going straight down last year instead of playing off against Cove.

I think the pyramid play-off will evolve but I can see it being in baby steps rather than the SFA just adopting straight relegation in a few years.

  4. The Cove team are absolute units and bossed East Kilbride all over the pitch when I saw them at the K-Park last week.

I've no idea who plays for Berwick Rangers but they'll need to match Cove's physicality and aggression to stand a chance I think.

On a side note, I'm disappointed East Kilbride failed to get promoted but the Lowland is shaping up nicely for next season and will be a great league to be in. Bonnyrigg Rose and the aforementioned Berwick Rangers (if relegated) will make the title race even more competitive.

  5. The main criteria for the job should be to appoint someone who has actually qualified for one of these tournaments. Mind that guy Bora Mulitinovic that qualified for the World Cup with about 10 different countries? I would be keen on hiring someone like that.
