I was 13 when Paquito signed for the Rovers, so was old enough (just) to realise just how fucking good he was - and how ridiculous it was to see him play at that level.  Some of the jobbers he was against in the 3rd tier was ridiculous, as was the way he literally glided past them.  My favourite ever Rovers player, absolute class - and seems like a really lovely guy.

I'm really interested to see how we get on against Kilmarnock.  Our away form was hideous last season, taking 2 points from 36 from the teams who finished above us.  That is the main thing that needs to be addressed in the season ahead, so ideally I'd like to see us score some goals in a game without having 4 thousand chances - snatching some points would be just braw.  That will come from being vaguely competent in either box.  I'd also like to see us score a shit goal, a scramble in the box or similar.

I'm really happy with the signings we've made, my main concern is keeping players fit.  Can't help but feel we need another option up top, and a holding midfielder.  I've bored myself saying it, but there is a huge amount of pressure on the signing of Hamilton IMO.  If he is injured or suspended, I just can't see that quality in the opposition box.  Someone last season said that we have all the striking instinct of a Tory cabinet, and that's all I could think of watching the game last midweek.  A genuine presence in the opposition box is what we need to go to Ayr, Morton, Partick et al and get a result (even a draw, as we took zero points from those grounds last season)

It's also difficult to see how Murray keeps the deluge of attacking players when everyone is fit (lol) - I still wouldn't be surprised to see at least one player leave the club, even if its on loan. (I'm assuming Arnott, Mitchell and Masson will be out on loan again also).  Whilst they aren't the same type of player - Gullan, Vaughan, Smith, Easton, Mullin, Ross, Connolly aren't going to be asked to do drastically different jobs - and I doubt any of these players signed to be on the bench.  I do appreciate the depth, especially after how last season ended, but it's difficult to see everyone being happy - especially given the manager has stated he's looking for potentially 3 more bodies.

I do have a feeling we will be okay this season however.  There is a real amount of expectation on the manager of the club and at the end of the day, if we aren't at least a decent £20 bet to finish top 4 at the end of October, then I can see the new regime having their first big decision to make.  I doubt all of the kings horses and all of the kings men have been brought in to finish 7th again, and whilst this is far from a win or bust season - I don't think Murray has a huge amount of time to get things ticking along.  Which is absolutely fine by me, its a big season ahead.  And if worst comes to worst, I think the club is a relatively attractive proposition for another manager to come into.

What a lot of shite we are so lucky to have Murray.

You for real ? Exactly what you guys did with Calderwood pampering his extravagances!! For what it’s worth you guys could well finish in play offs . Needing a hand up front.

Plenty morons in Scottish football. Spending what you can’t afford is never a great idea irrespective of decade.as you know to your cost. Still very relevant today.

The basis of this is O’Reilly is quite strong in the air, but needs some experience around him because he hasn’t played with these guys before. It’s part of the same reason that Corr and O’Reilly seems an unlikely pairing tomorrow.

We’re in a tight spot here, with a lack of resources to deploy effectively. This game is going to be a real managerial challenge for IM…will he resort to a 4-4-2…try to stay in his 4-2-3-1 or circle back to a 4-1-3-2?

Would rather play Corr than Millen at Cb. Millen at right back getting in crosses a better option.

I don’t think Corr is ready and able to play the full 90. He only returned to practice fully AFTER the Accies game and his cameo. Also, pairing a returning young player with a new teammate is not a good plan. Much as I’d like Brown in the middle to cover Byrnes absence, it’s more important to play him at CB. If Masson is healthy, he’s more likely to start than Corr, and I don’t think IM would do that either. O’Reilly needs a veteran player teamed with him because he new to the team/players, and Dick and O’Reilly both prefer LCB, hence are an unlikely pair too.

Now, there is something I hadn’t considered…Millen has, on occasion, played at CB. If Millen played at RCB, with O’Reilly at LCB and Dick at LB, then we possibly have Masson or McGill at RB…or perhaps even Mullin, who has played at RB a few times (and once at LB). That gives O’Reilly stability and experience for his introduction.

Millen at centre back a bad idea. Defending high balls is not his strength. We need an aggressive cb who will win high balls all game. Murray a big miss.

Absolutely, we just need to try stick with them. The run we’ve been on needs commended as it’s a nightmare league to show consistency when everyone can beat each other.

We've got goals throughout the team and I’m convinced with good service Hamilton will be lethal now fit.

Hamilton could make a huge contribution to the cause. Coming good at the right time. He is a handful when fit.

Unless Dundee have a run of injuries I can’t see them needing Byrne back.
A bit like Ethan Ross for us - surplus to requirements based on performance levels of of current players in that position.

We really do need Byrne and Stanton tied down.

Ive a feeling next season will be the best chance for a few teams to get into the SPL for many a year. The chances are Utd will be replaced with either Livi or Ross County which will mean for me at least there would be very little across a few teams.

Still hoping Dundee Utd go on some sort of poor run, maybe the Falkirk result will be the catalyst 🙂

Reckon we have a good chance to do it this season!!

Was sitting the other day working out some stuff for work and thought I would work out the plan for what to do going forward.

    Thought about a full change
    14 team leagues x 3
    Then the Highland and lowland.
Then the Eos, wos, sos etc

Do a 7 team split half way through season so after 26 games (home and away) so top 7 play each other 2 times and bottom 7 play each other 2 times (home and away). As I noticed Michael Stewart says it's contractual for old firm....

Top 2 automatically go up a league like English leagues.
Can do the play offs like we do currently or have a 3rd v 12th in league above play off "final" only.

Sound pretty good to me sir. Probably too simple and straightforward to be adopted !

Question, with Kirkcaldy & Dysart announcing they’re joining the EOSFL and becoming a Senior team. If they wish they could then gain a licence and join the Fife FA to complete in the Fife cup and the Scottish cup. Just out of curiosity have we ever played against them in the past? I’ve never been a fan of the Junior / Senior divide as it’s madness neighbouring teams can’t meet. Just wondered if we’ve ever faced them in a pre season game or something?
