  1. No, I watched the game objectively. Unlike you who saw what he wanted to see.

I get it that you're happy someone from Greenock played, and that he's maybe your mate/relative/whatever but you're clearly unable to evaluate his performance objectively. Trying to say he wasn't at fault massively for the 2nd goal is just laughable, and immediately invalidates any other opinion you might have about his performance

How can you be at fault for a goal that shouldn’t have stood? The ref/linesman was at fault.
  2. Tremendous :unsure2: Did people watch the same game as me?

Thought he was miles out of his depth, and will be extremely concerned if he ever has to starta game for us again.

You watched a different game. Barbaric comment.
  3. He played brilliant. 2nd goal De Bruyne was a yard offside. Yes he was deep but you can’t argue facts. He was composed from start to finish. You can’t ask for much more of a young lad on his debut against the worlds best. Didn’t hide once and have you seen his last ditch tackle in the 88th minute to prevent a sure goal? If only we could find a way to play him Tierney and Robertson. We’ve got three cracking full backs.

  4. Probably not far off but I would surprised if Orsi comes in and is a starter early on. Would much prefer a better option there ( Nesbitt)  and Orsi can slowly make an impact from the bench if indeed he is good enough.
Likewise with Strapp, whilst i hope he breaks through, we shouldn't bank on him being good enough at this stage and we really should have a more experienced option at left back alongside Strapp. ( I know Hopkin has mentioned Jacobs can cover defensively so perhaps that is in his thinking)
For me we still need 3 CB's, 1 LB, 1 AM and 1 striker. That would give us a squad of 19 with the option of a few reserves making the step up if we are struggling.

Agree with all of that. Ideally we sign upgrades on Orsi and Salkeld and in desperate need of 3 solid centre backs.
  5. 6 minutes ago, virginton said:

We have already compared them and found that one was actually still in the prime of their career while the other is in clear decline. So we're not dealing with a similar situation at all then.

...but as you can't even grasp what 'irony' means your judgment of anyone's intelligence can be safely filed in the bin where it belongs.

Nice straw man argument there, but at no point have I ever argued for signing Andrew Dallas next season, or indeed any other season between now and the Earth finally being devoured by the Sun.

'We can do better than six goal a season jobbers' is really not a transfer strategy that any competent incoming manager will struggle with.

Still, at least you've taken that complete demolition of your point well.

You missed my point about using my tears as lubricant :(

Other than that I will close with this:

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down he thought
    "Well, isn't this nice."
And isn't it ironic, l don't you think

  6. It's not a great example at all, given that Peaso chose to leave a Morton side that had just finished second in the division after a highly successful season himself to play for the title favourites; as opposed to being released by a bunch of dung relegation strugglers. So not at a similar stage in their respective careers at all then.

If you honestly consider 2nd to be a highly successful season that year then you are in-fact living up to my point about your intelligence (and lack there of). Let us not forget that Peaso that season, was our joint top scorer with a player you didn't seem to rate at all (Archie Campbell). Peaso and Doolan share qualities and are therefore suitably comparable. End of story.

Bold move to question my intelligence when you've clearly taken your (wrong) definition of irony from an Alanis Morissette song.

I am far too young to even know who that is. But yes like I said previously, and just to clarify. I am not questioning your intelligence. I am telling you that you are unintelligent.

Erm no it doesn't - the record currently shows that Doolan is currently only as good as Bob McHugh's campaign this season. Every signing in football is a gamble and there is of course a chance that Doolan might do better than that if we were to sign him, but given his age the odds of that happening are simply not good enough to justify signing him.

Don't disagree with anything you have said here minus the small matter of fact - Much less risk attached to a proven goalscorer with one shite season than some of your other transfer targets such as your mate Andy Dallas.

I've got every confidence that a competent football manager would be able to find better bets than that from the countless free agents as well as transfer and loan listed players from higher divisions, all of whom will be available on the Championship market from next month. I think Doolan would be better option for someone like Raith or Airdrie who can't afford to be picky as ourselves.

Finally some rationale for your thinking. I'll say thanks?

That'll be why Neil McFarlane was a key player in a strong Queen of the South side for years and even played in a Scottish Cup Final 13 months before joining Morton; as opposed to Kris Doolan who has spent the most recent 13 months getting relegated and warming the bench because he can't even get a game for that dung Partick Thistle outfit.

The player who looks significantly closer to their sell by date in that comparison is your hero.

Yeah lets compare defensive midfielders to strikers. He was weirdo from Dunoon that will wash up on Operation Yewtree's next hit list. As I said before. He is irrelevant and a pish poor reference to this discussion.

    ^^^ verge of tears

Tears that will be used as lube whilst I watch Kris Doolan score 24 goals to win us the Scottish Championship 19/20 season.

  7. MacDonald was the comparison that someone wanted to use - the fact that it doesn't at all support the case for Doolan is unfortunate. But hardly surprising, given that the poster who made the comparison is an utter moron.

I can exclusively reveal that I'm not currently on the shortlist for the manager's job so no, the onus isn't actually on me to select our transfer targets for next season. But you just keep picking the first names that you recognise like it's a game of Football Manager and I'm sure it'll all work out well: having Neil McFarlane plodding around the middle of the park years after his prime was such a terrific success for the club in the past.

Firstly, Peaso was used as an example (and a great example at that) of a player at a similar stage of their career - a prolific fan favourite and winner.

I’m glad you can “exclusively reveal” that you would never have the intelligence to be a manger in the Scottish championship. Ironically, no surprise.

However whilst the onus of picking a new striker may not fall on your desk. The very fact that you are prepared suggest Doolan is shite and a waste of time would entail you have a list of alternatives...that we’re all still waiting to hear. Or at the very least, a positive thought that would actually contribute discussion in this forum.

Lastly, Neil McFarlane, a failed Dunoon farmer, is so far from what anyone is talking about in terms of Doolan/MacDonald. A man who was past his sell by when he was released by Hearts 5 years before he joined the famous.

Get in the sea you pessimistic w**kstain.

  8. Peter MacDonald hadn't been released by a relegation-battling shambles of an outfit for being too shite to get a game for them anymore.

    Swing and a miss then.

MacDonald is irrelevant to how good Doolan could of would be for us. Don’t get hung up on him having *one* below average season.

But how your talking makes me think you’ve got a plethora of better options that I cannot wait to hear about.

  9. Peter MacDonald was a couple of months shy of 33 when he went from Morton to Dundee, and he did even better with them than he did with us.  33 -  34 is fine for a player in the Championship if he has kept his fitness levels up.

We could do worse. And we probably will.

Completely agree. Judging by the reception of Thistle fans - the majority are gutted to see him go. A fresh start at a new club could be all he needs. Time will tell, but if we think we can do much better than a Doolan, we are taking the piss and should nominate Andy Dallas to the Morton Hall of Fame.

  10. Already 33 and presumably got released from an inferior Partick side for that (and other) footballing reasons; not for me.

Apparently released for a poor relationship with Caldwell.

Proven goal scorers that know this league well aren’t so easy to find. Whilst I wouldn’t be jumping for joy if he joined us. I’d be pretty confident he’d score his share of goals plus add some experience at that end of the pitch.
  11. Wow, a wee rid dot from vt, how will I ever sleep tonight.......   very well, actually.
Genuine question, virgin one - was the rid dot just ‘cos it’s my post, or ‘cos I advocate keeping Tids, or would you rid-dot it twice if you could (I’d bet on the last).  If you seriously think we shouldn’t try to keep Tids because he accepted a far better financial offer from elsewhere, irrespective of the club, then you’re truly a small-minded p***k.

Very obsessive and bizarre behaviour Rudolph. Sober up Mr Insomnia.
  12. Basing the uptake on their home attendance is stupid though, there'll be hundreds more Morton fans who can't get to games due to their location who will be willing to support the club by pledging.  Morton's support doesn't just consist of the numbers going through the home turnstile every week.
I admire the ambition and I hope it works out for Morton.

Completely hit the nail on the head. Like most suffering seaside towns in Scotland - local fans relocate globally for jobs. I suspect we can achieve more than the target of 400k. Mon the ton
  13. Who will be the last man standing in the race for 10th and who will Arbroath replace?
Tears, snotters and breakdowns guaranteed, as we head into the final third of the season
8 points separating 6 sides should mean  some fun and games over the next two and a half months...Fun that thankfully I can watch from afar with a smug grin on my face.
Of the candidates Falkirk and Partick who were looking like certs for the bottom have picked up since the window, Morton and Dunfermline are in freefall, Alloa after a bright start have stalled and Queen of the South probably have too much over the rest, but still can't relax just yet.

    The runners and riders:

    Alloa Athletic
Don't suffer too many heavy defeats and usually seem to be competitive in games.
Everybody's certs for the drop at the start of the season have surpassed all expectations thus far. Jim Goodwin is working miracles and I've always been impressed by his teams.  Every team needs a regular goal scorer and Alloa have Trouten who is enjoying a purple patch in the twilight of his career. But they are starting to stall a bit, and as I type have slipped into the play off position, albeit in a run of tricky fixtures.
Alloa trolled the rest of the league at the start of the season with the pitch and should they stay up it will be hailed as a masterstroke, with every other club using it as an excuse for their diddiness.
Everybody loves an underdog and I am sure everybody wants Alloa to stay up.

    My prediction : 8th

    Dunfermline Athletic
First of the huge, big, big clubs finding themselves in the mix
No strangers to the seaside leagues in recent years and there's a very real prospect of them heading back with their bucket and spade. Promotion play offs last season. This season they would bite your hand off for a play off spot at the other end. Changed manager early in January which was probably a month too late, giving the new man no real time to change things in the window.
Don't score many goals, with 'Dunfermline nil' being a phrase that is commonly heard. and thus a deep depression has set in at EEP. New signing Bruce Anderson may end up being the messiah, after a debut goal, but one man makes a team, does not. Sphincters are twitching in West Fife, but if they do go down, they will at least have the comfort playing their cousins from Kirkcaldy four times next season.
    My prediction : 10th

    Falkirk
The next of the huge, big, big clubs in the brown stuff.
If crowds won leagues, Falkirk would win hands down every time. They are that big. Can't recall the last time the Bairns were actually in the seaside league. They are just too big a club to go down.
At one point it was looking inevitable they would go down, but appointing a new manager and completely overhauling their squad has seen Falkirk slithering their way towards safety. Unbeaten in 2019 they are only heading in one direction and I doubt anyone will fancy playing against Falkirk at the minute.  But of course a good run can quickly turn into a bad one and a word of caution for Bairns is that they have a potential bombscare in their team in the Edge. But they have recruited well and have got their hands on one of the best managers around so all appears to be rosy...

    My Prediction : 5th

    Greenock Morton
Let's face it. We all want to see Morton go down. Even some Morton fans probably want to see Morton go down. Not because we hate Morton, just because the entertainment value would be priceless and Ainsley Harriot needs more exposure.
Another of the clubs who are no strangers to the seaside league in recent years. The Inverclyde Riviera's finest are currently living up to their reputation of being perma-diddies. Turmoil in the boardroom, turmoil in the dugout, turmoil on the pitch and turmoil on the terraces, this season has seen it all. If ever you think your own club is in a bad way just look at Morton and you will soon realise it could be worse.
The 1922 cup winners started the season well but losing a great manager to a rival club, seems to have rattled them. There is hope however and Morton are the only team to have beaten Ross County twice, and they also have a few points of a cushion over 10th, so that is at least some cause for a great feeling at Cappielow. Have benched their best player last couple of games which makes absolutely no sense to me.

    My prediction : 9th

    Partick Thistle
The third of the Huge, big, big clubs in the mire.
Like their fellow giants Falkirk, the luvvies are unbeaten in 2019 and not so long ago were heading for oblivion. The knives were out for Caldwell after a few short weeks in the hotseat, but he has turned it round recently. Currently bottom but can move off that spot with a win in their next game.  Are staring back to back relegations but they probably will have comfortably enough to avoid that feat. Seem to have recruited well in January and regardless of your thoughts on Harkins, he has the ability to do special things in a game.
The only one of the six still in the cup which could be a hinderance, but it could help them if they carry on their good form.

    My Prediction : 7th

    Queen of the South
The least likely of the six to go down, but stranger things have happened and they certainly can't relax...just yet.
It's difficult to mention Queen of the South, without mentioning the D word and supporters of the Dumfries club never shut up about it... 'He's our Precious'
But to be fair we'd all be the same if he played for our club.
Queens will be comfortably nowhere near the bottom spot, unless Dobbie's hamstring goes again. But even with his goals they have not exactly set the heather alight. They'll probably see themselves as being able to sneak into a promotion play off spot but personally I think they'll come up short.

    My Prediction : 6th
