What are Formartine like nowadays? Losing 1-0 to Keith is surely a bit of a shocker? We play them in the scottish in a few weeks, wondering if we have a chance haha.

Decent but had a lot out on Sat, only 3 young lads on the bench (20 & under)

I can't find the methodology, but I did find another study looking into both posts, front post, back post, and no post. There were differences in the percentages but the article said no clear differences found. It's nearly 10 years old though, so I'm not entirely sure how relevant that is today.

I think it's an interesting discussion, different coaches will have their own beliefs, based on principles of play, and currently, the differences are quite small in how teams set up at corners. The placing of players on posts, is something that is visible to fans.

On this issue, I dislike when people cherry pick instances and highlight a particular goal where if the team had a player on the post they wouldn't have conceded. In that situation, it appears to be the case but you would then have to consider how changing all other corners might impact all of the other games as a whole. I also dislike pundits being dismissive of the tactic when the numbers suggest that at the very least it is as good a tactic in the long run as having players on the posts. I would also question why they think the way they do. Is it purely because that's how they were taught, so they assume it to be optimal?

The question comes down to, is it better to reduce the size of the goals, or reduce the chance of winning a header.

Shorter player who is unlikely to win any headers on the post maybe?

Wee surprise with BoD drawing at home to Nairn then? Otherwise business as usual.

    Strathspey for the drop...

All things considered I think BoD would have been looking for 3 points on Saturday.

Only other 'surprise' based on last season's league placings might be Turriff getting off to a good start against Huntly. Not really a major upset as, by various accounts, Turriff are an improving side and Huntly always have a bad game in them.

I watched it and after a slow start they were unlucky not to win by 1 or 2 but wasn't one sided by any means, enjoyable match :)

But we made it into Europe last season too, and Hibs didn't make the Top 6 this season let alone Europe, just like us.

So we've got four figure attendance teams in Dundee Untied and Motherwell in Europe.

I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that Aberdeen fans should be expecting to finish above both?

But lets see how the Hearts juggernaut cope with two games a week up until the World Cup break...

Expectation came from the 3rd biggest budget also but how will that compare this season?

Formartine apart, their results came against teams who’d hung it up for the summer. Strathspey were already safe, Turriff likewise. I saw them three times last season - three more than the Facebook loyal - and they were consistently minging. If anything, their last trip to Lossie was their worst of the three. The NoSC tie was probably their best, and that was the first, when they’d the Avraams boy up front, he was a menace.

Dee haven’t been off it for about six years.

Fair enough, just prob not the double figures in each leg some were predicting (that is if they were at full strength which by the week of the play offs they weren't so maybe the scudding would have been administered afterall :D)

Dee did get beat by East End in a 1/4 final and needed pens to get by Montrose Roselea in a semi but had a not bad season overall :D

Be interesting to see how they do in the HL, top 5 I'd think

I watched most of the Fort games with Shadab as manager and things were getting better with every game. Just needed more time. Nice guy too.

I didn't see any matches but going on the the more recent results they would have had a chance if Dee were off it and they were on it, draw with Formartine & a 1-0 loss to Rothes was decent esp compared to seasons past where a double figures scudding in each leg of the play off would have been odds on!

had the pleasure of stealing that match and watching it for f**k all.....

the 1st half we could and should have been ahead

2nd half was just the same old 2nd half ie did very little going forward

thought aberdeens penalty was soft and im convinced they got it due to collum fucking up and not giving them a stonewaller right after halftime

also the co-commentator on red tv is a fucking clown...every dundee freekick was a nothing challenge..every dundee challenge was a freekick...instead of naming players he just kept on saying boy,man and he said ADAMS about a fucking 1000000 times

co-criticiser more like and that was towards the Aberdeen players, everything should have been different in his eyes, v tiring to listen to

Loving the idea that anyone would need to 'cheat' to eject plucky Fort William, when if those gormless clowns had actually been able to field a team and host a match they'd have lost 20-0 on aggregate.

Any other season most likely but on recent form I think they would have had a chance if full strength which makes it all the more bizarre!

BOD were utter horseshit against NSN a few weeks back.  I imagine they've taken their foot off the gas and also can't be arsed with the 17 cup competitions they have to play every season.  Losing on Saturday means 2 less cup games for them now before the HL play off.

Def didn't throw the game, just nothing worked up front until a few mins from the end and they were really going for it.

I think it’s partly down to a mentality thing. Aberdeen had their big chance a few seasons ago and they blew it. Celtic were not at the races that season. Aberdeen recently as well only finished 9 points (3 wins) behind Celtic under Rodgers. I believe if a professional was brought in to deal with the mentality of the players, like they did at FK Bodø/Glimt in Norway, it might change the fortunes of a team if they can catch Celtic and Rangers on an off season. Leicester City were excellent in their title winning season but they took advantage of the other traditional top teams being quite poor.

The key thing is consistency and routinely beating lesser sides. Then you have to take points off the OF. Aberdeen were getting good at until the shat it.

Could this have been some sort of long range prediction!?

JET for Bruce Anderson + cash has to be one of the greatest trade deals of all time. He's currently the top player for G/A p90 in the entire league. 10 goals and 4 assists so far this season.

Comes out at an average of 0.70 goal involvements per 90 minutes.

Just in league games that number comes out at 0.78 with the closest being Jota (0.77), Kyogo (0.76), Roofe (0.76) and Rogic (0.73).

Morelos comes in at 0.72 :D

Just wait for Jet to get going with 19 more goals this season :whistle

    Absolutely.

He's going to be a terrific player with a long career in front of him, but it won't be at Pittodrie.

There's also the strange conundrum that while he's been individually outstanding this season.....especially going forward....it's a fact that we look defensively more vulnerable when he's in the side.

I think we're a stronger defensive unit with Ojo there, rather than Ramsey, and I'd be happy enough for Ojo to continue doing what he's doing.

Think he'll be coverted to a Winger
