I wasn't at either of those games so can't comment. Waterford is the best I have seen us this season hence it's a head scratcher why we have changed from that.

McLaughlin was doing fine at left back so not sure why Cook needs to go there. I liked Cook in that central midfield role but he hasn't played there since.

Neilly I haven't seen Stenhousemuir play for months but going on the highlights the backline seem really slow especially in the Penicuick highlights, every time the ball went wide they were in, same in the City highlights maybe the fullbacks are getting drawn in or your midfield are not picking up runner's ? Whatever it is your Manager needs to fix that defence because without Smith it would be a lot worse. Time on your side to fix it.

It's basically the same but it's not the same. Against Waterford we had McBride wide and Cook playing more centrally in midfield. It really gave us an extra dimension in terms of pace and drive and we haven't had that since. Makes no sense to me. If you want to get the best from Gibson you need legs round about him. We've somehow ended up with Dykes in there and McLaughlin moved from left back.

It's easy to say it's only one or two players difference but those two playing in those positions really did give us a bit more. Why was it changed at all when it was our best performance of the season?

You beat The new saints and Edinburgh City with totally different line ups and the New saints are better than Waterford. Your defence seem to have lost confidence or something, I reckon Cook would be a good left back who would give you a different option ?

Call me a mad man but why don't we go back to the line up that played against Waterford? We haven't played the same team since and are moving further away from it by the week.

I can't understand why we are going down the route of a back three. The young centre back looks nowhere near the level required at this minute in time so i can't see how we are bolstering the defence in that regard.

At a loss why Dykes has found himself ahead of Halleran in the pecking order all of a sudden as well. Some baffling decisions from Irons since Waterford and as poor as the players have been he has to be accountable for the selection and shape of the team, which is getting worse by the week.

According to the Stenhousemuir site Neilly the manager only changed 1 midfielder against Penicuick and Edinburgh City after the Waterford game, basically the same team ?

Who's all heading along to Penicuik on Saturday?

I can't say I know much about them but it would be hugely embarrassing if we didn't progress to the third round. By all accounts, they're not a great side so we should be looking to win comfortably - if we score an early goal I'd fancy us to put four or five past them. I'd be inclined to keep the same team that beat Waterford last Friday but I wouldn't mind seeing Kieran Anderson getting a start here.

Even although I'm fairly confident going into this match, I can still remember aberrations against Preston Athletic and Threave Rovers. Two black days, the trip to Prestonpans especially.

Francesc I would imagine Stenhousemuir should expect to win the game although Penicuick will definitely make a game of it.

Normally a big physical team good at set plays that will battle for 90 minutes.

The park is ok with two covered areas if it's raining and you stand about a foot away from the park where normally a large support give the opposing team and officials pelters.

Parking is at a premium so most should head through early a couple of decent pubs on the main Street that also sell food and are only a minute or two walk to the ground.

It's a game I would imagine you will want to score early or it could be a tricky tie.

The first line would have been suffice and there is really no need to be so precious. You cleared up why you had Rangers in your profile and never post about them but then go on about Anderson again when no one even mentioned him. You are entitled to come on and post what you like it isn't an issue but when it is done with a bias towards one player then it's as clear as lemonade and becomes tedious to people who actually support the club.

Remember we support this club and don't have a bias to anyone we want all players to do well. When they are good we will say they are good and when they are rank rotten we will say that also. At the end of the day we are all melters that post opinions on the internet it really doesn't mean very much in the grand scheme of things.

You have permission to continue posting. I have scanned the permission slip and sent it over to you via PDF.

Appreciate the answer Neilly but I'll just read what you guys say.

You sure Rangers are your team? All ten posts about Stenhousemuir Football Club.

You would think if you didn't support the team you would be best placed elsewhere in the forum talking about a team you know about. Each to their own though.

I don't support any senior team in particular Rangers were my father's team so I just hit that.

Obviously I was interested to see how Anderson would do after watching him at Camelon last season. Although I have been politely asked not to comment anything about him.

I thought what I said about the Highlights was pretty Fair considering. I don't normally comment on forum's although I do like to read all the comments.

In future I'll refrain from writing anything on your forum Neilly, not really my thing anyway. but I'll continue to read the comments if that's ok.

If your son doesn't work a bit harder you could get him back in January. He does have some ability, he just needs to use it.

Cheers for that advice I'll pass it on to Ian when I see him.

I'll just judge him on what I witnessed last season .

You've a few over at yours who are hard working but can't play football , judging on highlights some can't pass a ball with one foot never mind two.

The boy that signed for Hurlford ,Dickson is twice the player of any you have on loan and your manager let him go.

You enjoy your season and try and support some of your team instead of a select few .

I won't be taking up the offer of a free ticket from his Dad again as I'd miss my Football to much.

No doubt about it, this is a must-win game for both sides if they have any aspirations of moving away from the wrong end of League 2. Before the weekend's game against Cowdenbeath, I reckoned Stenhousemuir could have taken seven points from their meetings with the Blue Brazil, Brechin City and Stirling Albion; after our deserved 3-0 pumping, I'm now very worried about our ability to get something from Saturday's game and I'm concerned about where our season is going.

On paper, a home match with Brechin is probably the most straightforward assignment of the season - a team we didn't lose to at all last season, even when we were reduced to 10 men on two occasions - but I'm not so sure now. We've been rubbish at home in the league this season. We looked sprightly enough when we came back into it against Albion Rovers (before chucking it away), we were largely poor against Edinburgh City and even worse against Cowden. Why is this? I can't explain it. We haven't won a home match since beating Montrose on 9 February!

If we don't win this match, I worry for Colin McMenamin. The crowd were rightly angry at the end of Saturday's match and I don't think they'll have the stomach for something similar for a second week running. It's easier said than done but we have to encourage our defenders to play through the midfield rather than launching big punts up towards Mark McGuigan, they need to get Alan Cook more involved, and they need to get Thomas Halleran on the ball whenever possible. Whenever we go behind, we seem to lose our composure and try to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible. The second-half performance against Cowden really wasn't acceptable and the manner in which we lost the second and third goals was embarrassing.

That said, I honestly can't think of any changes I'd make on Saturday. I don't think we've got the options from the bench, David Hopkirk aside:

    - Kieran Anderson - Mark McGuigan -

    - Alan Cook - Thomas Halleran - Wullie Gibson - Jamie McKernon - Chris O'Neil -

    - Scott McLaughlin - David Marsh - Andy Munro -

    - Graeme Smith -

The pressure is on! Home win.

Watching the Highlights of Cowdenbeath your left winger just didn't bother his arse tracking back for the second goal .

Just stood and watched the boy walk past him.

Another league game and another game of utter shite.  I though our performance against Edinburgh City was bad but this takes the biscuit.

Last week no McGuigan so we played the ball on the ground and had reasonable success and looked the part.  This week McGuigan comes back and we revert to the long ball, the high punt and look completely lost.

The decision to replace Anderson was totally wrong, McGuigan should have been off and to bring on Dykes for Halleron beggars belief.

Our goalkeeper has a serious problem with his attitude, I make that 3 yellows at least so far this season and all for stupidity. Why does he have to run and get involved when it has nothing to do with him?  Can't be long now before he picks up a suspension.

If McMenamen was the best candidate available then the others must have been really bad.  We have lost every one of our home league games so far and are currently sitting 3rd from bottom 2 points above Stirling and Brechin. We only have the one tactic and that is not working.  Will be interesting to see what the board do over the next few weeks.  If we fail to beat Brechin and Stirling in the next two weeks then the board should hold up their hands and admit they have made a serious mistake and show him the door before we end up in the play offs for league survival.

Seriously pissed off with what is on offer.

McGuigan and playing Football don't go together simple.

That was absolutely vile and one of the worst performances I've seen in years. It was so bad that I wanted to leave the ground and go home during the interval, even although we were winning at that point. Other than Mark McGuigan's goal (which was quite glorious) and a Kieran Anderson shot that inexplicably hit the bar, we offered nothing. Edinburgh City are a good side, and looked much better than they did last week in our Challenge Cup encounter, but we played right into their hands - ceaseless long balls towards Liam Henderson and Conrad Balatoni, a failure to put any real pressure on Marc Laird in the middle of the park - and I don't think they'll get a more straightforward three points all season.

Stenhousemuir started the match well and McGuigan's early goal was lovely, with the big striker finishing Alan Cook's low centre after a fine series of passes. The home side could have doubled their lead shortly afterwards when Anderson somehow found himself in on goal but rather than placing his shot, he opted to smash the ball beyond Calum Antell instead and hit the bar. Why did he shoot with so much power from close range? It seemed to me as though he wanted to show he had "arrived" by finishing so empathically; instead he squandered a wonderful opportunity.

From that point on, Edinburgh City took control of the match. They got a grip on the middle of the park and forced our backline into a series of panicky clearances. Andy Munro twice played short, unsighted backpasses to his goalkeeper and Graeme Smith twice bailed him out by saving with his knees. As we've mentioned on this thread and several others, our team isn't really designed to scrap for first or second balls - we're more capable when we try to play football - so it was alarming to watch us bypass the middle of the park and hope something fell McGuigan's way. Yes, for a big lad he could do better when battling with defenders but why do we insist on playing neck-high balls up towards him? What's he supposed to do with that? We've got three central midfielders who are all decent enough on the ball, why aren't we giving it to them?

At half time, I thought we had made the right call to take off Liam Scullion for Chris O'Neil - Scullion had been struggling to keep big Robbie McIntyre in check so it made sense to replace him - but I couldn't believe we changed from the 3-5-2 to a 4-4-2. We were losing territory in the middle of the park since about the 11th minute, so why did we weaken ourselves further? Needless to say it didn't work. We looked ragged and dishevelled and spent the rest of the game trying to repel Edinburgh's attack without ever really getting back into it.

The defending for the first of their two goals was appalling. The ball was allowed to pinball around the box before Blair Henderson hooked in the equaliser and O'Neil failed to deal with a deep cross, knocking it straight to Laird who took his time and planted a neat finish into the net. We briefly rallied at this point and pegged Edinburgh back but we never really look like troubling Antell. Scott Shepherd added a third late on (I didn't see the build up to it because I was reading a tweet) but it prompted some members in the crowd to start shouting at Smith, who argued back. It was all very unedifying.

I can understand why supporters jeered the team off at the end. That was truly hopeless stuff. I saw someone on Twitter saying that if you want to build a team to play long-ball football, then that's fine, sign the appropriate players, but don't punt balls up top when our principle striker isn't all that great at operating as a target man and the midfield don't seem to be capable of pushing up and supporting him. Judging by some of the comments on here already and the views of people I spoke to at the match, Colin McMenamin has a bit of work to do to win the trust of supporters. after that What is his best XI? What formation suits them best? I don't know, and I'm not too sure he does either. Annan Athletic next week will be an interesting encounter, particularly given they were the team that relegated us in May. You know what you're going to get from Peter Murphy's side but are we capable of dealing with it? I don't know.

    Fabregas

Just had a gander at the highlights.

Anderson picked up the ball 25 yards out then left two defenders for dead and was still 15 yards out when hitting in all honesty a screamer that was at least 3 Foot over the line  ? It nearly hit the ball boy behind the goals.

If that had been on TV everyone would be talking about a Fabulous goal and 2.0 Stennie.

Graeme Smith was probably our best player yesterday and bailed out the team on a number of occasions before Edinburgh City really took control of the match. Yes, he let himself down by getting involved with some daft shouts from the crowd but he's been largely very good for Stenhousemuir. Don't forget it was a couple of weeks ago when he turned in a world-class performance against Heart of Midlothian.

I forgot to mention the above, if it hadn't been for your goalkeeper yesterday the scoreline would have been double after that defending.

  12. First chance to see Anderson since last season thanks for the ticket sir.

Thought Stennie were poor just lumping balls up in the direction of McGuigan  who for being a big lad doesn't really win much.

The Stennie goal looked a decent finish from the City player. Anderson had a chance on his left foot that he powered of the bar and it may have come down over the line, maybe highlights will show the above two better.

Noticeably the young lad Scullion was having a really bad time trying to defend and looked out his depth , the number 7 for Stennie was also poor and had three chances to challenge before City scored . The backline of Stennie just seemed to panic every time the ball come in the box and just lumped it up the park aimlessly.

Stenhousemuir will have to find a way to involve the midfield. Basically they miss them out and continually give the opposing team the ball putting pressure on themselves every time.

Personally I would have taken your striker of and tried something different and kept it on the deck.
