Based on what I watched yesterday they don't offer much going forward and there wasn't a standout player in the team.  Timid team performance.

Yeah, that, plus a dodgy ref letting Bo'ness get away with murder.

Latest update from the @The Faceman

Having been at BR v ES, I can state with some confidence there were nowhere near 336 in attendance. When this figure was announced over the tannoy, several of the Shire fans expressed doubt at the number and had a go at counting them ourselves. Our consensus was closer to 250, and this included everyone in the stand which presumably would include directors and other "freebies".

I thought Hibs got put forward as Easter Road had floodlights….

    From Wiki;

The participating clubs in the first five seasons of the European Cup were selected by French football magazine L'Equipe on the basis that they were representative and prestigious clubs in Europe. In 1955/56, English champions Chelsea initially agreed to compete and were drawn against Swedish side Djurgården; however, under pressure from the Football League, who saw the tournament as a distraction to domestic football, they later withdrew from the competition, and were replaced by Gwardia Warszawa of Poland. Scottish champions Aberdeen withdrew under similar circumstances.

Presumably Hibernian came under similar pressure and chose to ignore it.

The Stranraer programme looks like it fell through a time tunnel from 1957 and the Airdrie programme looks like someone had been let loose in the Letraset store-room.  Fabulous selection of typefaces.

The Stranraer programme didn't change much all through the 70s. I've got one from a game in March 1978 and it's identical in layout. All of the advertisers in the centre spread are the same apart from Sun Taxis.

We're getting married next month and the term "bridezilla" has never been more apt.

For the last few weeks we've been in a cycle of her moaning because I'm not helping with the wedding planning, me offering to help with the wedding planning and her refusing because whatever job she gave me I wouldn't do it right.

Have you not read ANY of the previous 448 pages of this thread?

Hi - we run an Aberdeen FC-podcast, looking for an East Stirlingshire fan who'd be willing to give up 5 minutes of their time to feature in an upcoming segment we have dedicated to one of our mutual ex-players.

If you fancy it, drop us a DM on twitter - @AbzPodcast

    Cheers!

If I wasn't in Australia, I'd put my hand up for this.... Are we allowed to take a guess as to the players identity, or is it under wraps for now?

It stems from a post by the OfficialCatchUp podcast, who get the odd bit of news from their sources. It's a been at least a week now without any real update.

I would also say on the LL website front, it has been poorly maintained this year compared with previous efforts. The most recent bit of news is Vale of Leithen looking for a manager from over a month ago. Kind of understandable they're struggling for a sponsor if that's the best they can do.

    Cheers.

Agreed, the web site has been sadly neglected this season. Obviously the bribe money they got from the OF hasn't been channeled in that direction....

I worked on a construction site in New Zealand where you had to start the morning with a 15 minute break. It's not like you could just turn up 15 minutes late, you had  to be there for the start of the break or you'd be docked pay. Then we'd get a 15 minute morning break, an unpaid half hour lunch break and another 15 minute afternoon break 45 mins before we finished. It was bizarre.

You were also able to turn up 15 mins early in the morning if you wanted, scan in and get paid to sit about doing nothing for the first half hour, although this practice was stopped just before I left.

The work was conducting earthquake repairs on a still-functioning hospital, meaning no equipment could be left on the staircases while we were on our breaks. As a great deal of the work required scaffolds to be set up, an unbelievable amount of time was spent putting up and taking down scaffolds before and after breaks. it was also a 10 minute walk to the site compound so that had to be factored in too.

    Was some skive.

    This sounds remarkably like Australia.

+ East Stirlingshire          ?? (1981)     "a centenary football match between Shire and one of Britain’s top clubs" was planned for Oct or Nov

    Never happened.

Both played in the Anglo-Scottish Cup of 1980-81, but lost their opening ties and played home legs a few days apart... Falkirk drew 2-2 v Morton on Saturday 2nd August (lost away 5-1); whilst 'Shire (having won away 3-1) lost 3-0 v Kilmarnock on Wednesday 6th.

I was at both games against Kilmarnock. Don't think I've ever felt worse after a game than that second leg. (Well, until losing the LL play-off, anyway). Missed out on a trip to Blackpool where my brother was living at the time. Gutted.

It then happened twice in 1984:

    Wednesday 3rd October 1984
    Celtic 3-0 Gent                                         (32,749)     European Cup-Winners' Cup R1 2nd leg
Rangers 2-0 Bohemians Dublin     (31,000)     UEFA Cup R1 2nd leg
    Wednesday 7th November 1984
    Celtic 3-0 Rapid Vienna     (48,813)     European Cup-Winners' Cup R2 2nd leg
Rangers 3-1 Inter Milan     (30,594)     UEFA Cup R2 2nd leg

Celtic v Rapid Vienna was marred by crowd disorder, during which a Rapid Vienna player was struck by an object thrown from the crowd. Having won tie 4-3 on aggregate Celtic were made to contest a playoff at Old Trafford which they lost 1-0.

    Wednesday 22nd October 1986
Celtic 1-1 Dynamo Kiev     (47,858)     European Cup R2 1st leg
    Rangers 2-1 Boavista           (38,772)     UEFA Cup R2 1s leg

    Wednesday 30th July 1997
Celtic 5-0 Inter Cardiff     (41,537)     UEFA Cup QR1 2nd leg
Rangers 6-0 GI Gotu          (44,433)     Champions League QR1 2nd leg

That seems to have been the last time.

It never seems to have occurred in Edinburgh, Dundee or Falkirk.

Falkirk and The Shire both playing home European ties on the same night? Nope, safe to say it's never happened.
