  1. Hello,

On the latest podcast we kicked off our run down of the top 25 players under the age of 25 in the Scottish Premiership. Why? Well, it doesn’t look like there will be too much football any time soon and everyone loves a list of exciting players.

Scottish football may not be the biggest or brightest league in the magical world of football but it certainly has more than enough young and exciting players to keep us entertained. To give every player their fare share of attention we're taking our time with this and in part one we run through No.25 to No.21. The next part will be out in a few days.

  2. Hey guys,

On this week's podcast we decided to tackle the topic of league reconstruction within the SPFL.

    • We had a look at expanding the Scottish Premiership to include a number of Championship sides (while keeping Hearts in the top-flight) and discussed whether that would solve anything in the long-term.
    • We looked at whether the SPFL would be willing to stand up to broadcasters and offer alternatives to the OF-driven narrative that TV companies desire and what those alternatives could look like.
    • We then discussed the concept of the league pyramid as a whole and what could be done to help teams in the lower divisions.
    • Then we finished up with alternative ideas for the cup competitions. Celtic and Rangers starting in the first round? Bigger clubs forced to play away in the first few rounds? Maybe we should just bin the League Cup entirely?

    We hope you enjoy.

  3. Hey guys,

Just jumping in to say we have a new podcast out this week looking at Hearts under Daniel Stendel and whether or not they're showing enough progress to avoid relegation.

We had a look at the improvements made over the last month or so, the Tynecastle's club's record against bottom six sides and why that may be vital in the split and previewed tonight's vital clash against St Mirren. If that interests you then feel free to have a listen below:

  4. Hey guys,

Our latest podcast is on how Hibs have changed and quite possibly improved under Jack Ross. We had a look at Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat to Hearts and why Ross' tactics seemed to play directly in to Daniel Stendel's plan.

We also discussed how Ross has had to make big changes to the team he inherited from Paul Heckingbottom and whether or not they are moving forwards or backwards. Enjoy!

You can listen to the podcast on Android, iTunes or Spotify

Brought back down to earth at the end with the chat about bigger clubs should be taking Holt and Martindale, think the latter has a lot invested with Livi and wouldn't be interested in going anywhere. Hoping Holt stick around for another season too, it is good having a bit of stability from one season to the next, although we did well replacing Hoppy, it was still a bit bumpy to start the pre season with a new manager, then changing to another manager two games into the league campaign.

Things have gone a lot smoother this season when we had the same management team from last season, even though they had a big change over in players, they had the time to plan ahead and replace them with good quality players that have worked out even better than last season. Not sure what the dynamic is between Holt & Martindale, but it wasn't working with Kenny Miller, so it isn't just a case of bringing anyone in to work alongside Martindale.

Anyway, decent effort, and you were right about you being a fucking jinx when you do a feature on a team, we lost against County, and got knocked out the cup by ICT, so don't be in a rush to do another podcast about Livi, cheers.

Yeah, it's a shame that praising managers at smalller clubs seems to inevitably turn in to what they could do at bigger clubs but it's always intended as a compliment. In a round about way it would be nice if the bigger clubs (Hearts for example) had more trust or belief in the Scottish-based coaches, but at the same time you don't want someone like Holt and/or Martindale to be pulled out of a good thing and dropped in to a nightmare like Tynecastle these days.

Agree with you about Martindale: he seems perfectly happy at the club and although I wouldn't want to underplay what Holt does it does seem like he doesn't get nearly as much praise for things as high up as tactics and training with the first team.

If you're looking for further reading you could check out James' article on the Herald website, suggesting Livi may be the best-run club in Scotland right here

Don’t get me wrong I’m not anti stats but it felt like the main focus of all the sub topics (calum hendry and stevie may, for example).

It said to me that you wanted to cover st Johnstone but in reality you hadn’t particularly watched much of them other than the rangers game.

I definitely didn’t hate it though.

Yeah, we certainly use stats to help us fill in the blanks because it's simply impossible to watch every game every weekend.

Two of the three of us do cover games every weekend (a lot of them are St Johnstone games believe it or not), although James is usually at a Championship match. So we do what we can with highlights, stats and match footage from websites like WyScout, etc.

I listened to the st Johnstone episode.

It wasn’t a bad listen but probably a bit heavy on stats/XG over tactical insight etc for my taste.

Glad you liked it for the most part. We've found the stats stuff to be a real balancing act because we like to use the numbers to make our points (since nobody really cares about our unfettered opinions) but we do try and make an effort to explain some of the terms when we use them.

There's nothing that irrates us more than the analytics crowd on Twitter spouting off terminology without explaining it properly.  Otherwise it's just boring.

That's exactly what you were doing though, and in your replies to the St Johnstone fan you were continuing to back up the false claim of that headline, even after it was pointed out to you how it had been twisted to suit the agenda of the writer.

From what your OP said, you go in depth 'to dig right into the weeds' of a club, having a dig at a smaller club with a lot less financial clout than The Rangers, about not doing well against them,  seemed ill informed, and not very savvy if you want to gain listeners from the rest of the clubs outside of the Glasgow ones that dominate the league, as you would expect them to do with their financial advantage.

So far you aren't doing a good job of promoting your podcast on here.

It's perfectly fine for RandomGuy to have an issue with an article highlighting (note: not making up or lying about) St Johnstone's dreadful run of form at McDiarmid Park against Rangers and noting that the headline is wrong. It's another thing for him to come in here and use it as proof that our podcast panders to Celtic and Rangers and doesn't care about smaller clubs.

We simply don't accept that because our list of episodes shows that we make a proper effort - potentially more than just about any other podcast - of giving just about every team in the Premiership a proper episode. It's not a case of being smug or argumentative. We're simply standing up for ourselves.

The last time I listened to this podcast, I found there to be a lot wrong with it. I will give the new one a listen to see if the research has improved any, but I'll be honest I wasn't impressed with the standard the last time.

Ooft that’s from quite a while ago! Can’t say off the top of my head what was said in that podcast but happy to take any feedback on board about the most recent one.

The replies thus far, and the tone of those replies, doesn't really back that up.

Think you need to stop right now before you end up like Scotzine on here, having a complete head's gone melt down, or just continue and entertain us all, it's up to you.

Scotzine was a hack that didn’t have the content to back up his claims. We’re the completely opposite of that website.

Happy to have hearty debates about the podcast episodes - in fact it’s entirely the point of this thread - but we’re not here to argue about headlines on the BBC website.

As I say, you created lies about St Johnstone, mocked them in a BBC article, continued to lie about their record on here, and continued to mock them.

I highly doubt anything in your podcast is more than just self deluded patronising arseholes trying to be clever, tbh, so I'll be giving it a miss.

I'm sure the 10 minutes of life I'll have saved is worth that risk.

Well we've had two St Johnstone fan groups on Twitter share the podcast and plenty of fans tell us they enjoyed it so we think we've done a decent job of it.

We're not on here to pick fights with anyone, so if you're not interested in actually listening to the episode then we'll just say fair enough and wish you a good day 👍

    Clearly.

We have no advertising on our podcasts and we'd challenge you to find a more thorough and passionate 30 minutes of audio about your club from any other podcast this season. Professional or amateur. Give the show 10 minutes and see if you like it. If not then that's fine. No harm done and have a nice day.

    This is what I mean.

Being a patronising c**t to your prospective customers isnt going to work, no matter how wide you spread your arse for the OF.

    😂

We're not looking for customers. Just thought some folk might want to hear a few podcasts about Scottish football. No need to be so sensitive.

If you're this upset about an article pointing out how poor St Johnstone were in the past then you'll be delighted to hear about how great they've been in their last 18 games in our last podcast.

If you're that Stefan bloke who writes for the BBC, you can f**k right off after the utter bollocks story you created about Rangers record at McDiarmid the other day.

A headline with no truth in it and purely to sook the *** boaby, then an article that roundly derided/mocked Saints with every paragraph.

He’s one of us. Although he’s going to pass the buck because writers don’t write the headlines. And it’s not his fault St Johnstone took so long to show some balls against Rangers, is it?

So this week's show takes a look at St Johnstone's return to form. We had a look at their 2-2 draw with Rangers but then dug in to the weeds of what went wrong at the start of the season and how Tommy Wright has fixed it.  We also then had a look at chairman Steve Brown's comments about the club's finances and whether this team's budgets are sustainable.
If that's the kind of thing you might be interested in then please feel free to have a listen on the following platforms:

  17. Hey guys, so I had a word with Div and he said that he wouldn't mind if we stuck a thread in here to help promote the Scottish football podcast that we put out every week.

Some of you may remember us as that website that ran the Scottish football website that had a paywall for a while. It was a lot of fun but it eventually went tits up and we packed it in. However, we have kept the podcast going.

We know there are dozens of Scottish football podcasts to pick from and we're certainly not the biggest but we do think we offer something a little unique and we hope our genuine love for the sport comes through.

For example, we do our best to dig right in to the weeds of how teams are performing on the pitch rather than mull over the drama and theatrics that are plastered across the back pages every week. And we try to get around all the Scottish Premiership clubs evenly - as well as the odd Championship club too! Within our last 10 episodes alone we've spent entire shows looking at St Johnstone, Motherwell, Livingston, Hearts and Kilmarnock. Of course, we do episodes on Celtic and Rangers too but no more than they deserve.

Anyway, we're hoping to use this thread to share our new episodes when they come out and hopefully respond to any feedback you guys might have. Or we'll just get pages and pages of abuse and never sign back in again.

You can check out the podcast on Android/desktop, iTunes and Spotify. And you can also follow us on Twitter
