  1. Does anyone know the amount of subs allowed for the lower leagues this season? I believe the SPFL leagues are 5 from 9 but cant find anything for non league. Found IFAB has changed the laws to allow 5 subs but not sure when it's implemented.

    Cheers

Can the comparing the Junior Cup to the Fife Cup be put to bed. Its basically a floodlit cup that gets randomly played during the week and often sees youth sides of clubs compete in it. The same is true of the Aberdeenshire Shield.

Qualifying Cup, kinda the Southern Counties Cup, fair enough.

Just a wee bit about the Aberdeenshire shield....it's actually a fairly big deal to the clubs that play in it. Most games are played with full strength sides, only Aberdeen put in a youth side which generally gets papped oot fairly early, same as the Aberdeenshire cup. Fife cup is a reserve cup to all intents with the lower tier teams putting out a stronger side.

So where would Auchterarder Primrose play, eh

    On a fitba Park!

It depends where the boundry was. What I was getting at was Brechin, quite clearly above the tay boundry wanting to go to the lowland league. Teams right on the boundry fair enough, but not a distance away

Agreed. Makes it even more daft that there is talk of moving the boundary line North.

Personally I think the boundry should be in between Perth and Stirling. Perth is the natural start od the Highlands geographically but moving it slightly towards Stirling makes an move even spread of teams north and south. And as for clubs north of the boundry choosing the league they go into. Tough you got relegated, deal with the consequences.

The SoS League has never been above tier 6 in the pyramid.

The SoS was on par with EOS and HFL. Does that mean the HFL moved up a level? Yes there was no fluid promotion up, but if spaces became available, those were the leagues tjat clubs generally came from. Annan and Stranraer have both played in the SoS (first teams aswell as, recently, reserves)  Peterhead, Elgin, ross county obviously from HFL, Berwick Rangers from Eos. To me that says tier 5, even with the lack of proper promotion /relegation.

The EoSFL was traditionally one of Scotland's three "senior" non-leagues which sat outside the Scottish Football League (SFL), the other two being the Highland Football League and the South of Scotland Football League (SoSFL).

The existing 15 clubs had 3 votes each: Turriff United (15 votes), Strathspey Thistle (14 votes), Formartine United (11 votes) and Banks o'Dee (5 votes).

From what I have been told about it, banks were complacent and thought they were a shoe in turriffs presentation and youth set up got them in. Strathspey was basically to keep Highland /Aberdeenshire fairly even. And formartine. Atholl cadger went round every club, splashing cash, buying everyone in the social club drinks etc.

But as for relegation from HFL, it needs to happen soon. Lowland league is getting stronger and will only get better in the coming years as the like of Talbot and Pollok progress, but the HFL will remain stagnant with no new blood. Banks, Culter, roselea and a couple others from NRJ should be able to hold there own and push on, which should strengthen the league. The likes of Lossiemouth and Fort William are treading water knowing nothing will happen id they finish bottom of the league.

As a side, what are the basic requirements for licensing?

My guess in the longer term would be that the NCL and North Juniors could form two separate entities below the HL with a playoff for promotion. I don't see them integrating fully with each other for the main reason that by and large they cover two geographical areas...the former being more or less the Black Isle and up, and the latter effectively east of Nairn and down as far as Montrose.

The issue might be down the line...there would seem to be a few North Junior teams who would be able to step up to the HL in terms of onfield performance and ground criteria...BoD, Bridge of Don Thistle and Aberdeen Uni all spring to mind...less so in the NCL. This would obviously shift the HL's epicentre south and east, and historically the HlLs been protective of the balance between Highland proper and Aberdeenshire sides.

Which, as far as I understand, strathspey were admitted to the league ahead of banks of dee. Although Turriff were a strange admission. I personally would love to see relegation from the Highland league. There are clubs comfortable in the knowledge they won't be relegated. Get rid of the dross and have a more competitive league instead of the top 6 or 7 thumping the rest every week.

Agreed, there is no issue with them applying for and joining the new league.

The issue arises if they want to keep SJFL membership and/or play in the Junior Cup, which some people seem to think is important. It was suggested that this was part of the "compromise". I was merely pointing out that so far as I can see no-one on the Junior side has the power to agree to that.

As for the Junior cup. I wouldn't be happy in a couple of years if I was a colony Park fan coming up against Talbot in the cup when Talbot are pushing for promotion to league 2. Not a very fair scenario.

ICT and Ross County Still play in some of the Highland cups they just put out their u21 or reserves. Celtic and Rangers still play in the Glasgow cup playing their u21. If retaining the Junior cup gets everyone on board then don't see what the issue with keeping it going is.

It will probably fade away as clubs progress up the pyramid and up getting scrapped anyway or have the same relevance as the Glasgow cup or other regional cups.

Caley and county play in the north of Scotland cup as they are members of the North of Scotland fa. Aberdeen, Cove, Peterhead are eligible for the Aberdeenshire cup and shield as they are Aberdeen fa affiliated. Surely there are FA's in the West region that would take the clubs and they would be eligible for those competitions. That leaves the Junior cup for North, East and any remnants of the west. Yes it will be devalued but I'll bet that teams will want to win it as they would any other competition.

Would adding the Junior cup onto the calendar for non league clubs not cause a bit of fixture congestion?  Especially in the Highland area. Look at Orkney, scheduled to play 2 games at the same time this weekend, Fort William have something like 9 games in hand. Once the west is incorporated into the pyramid, it's going to have it's own league cup, as the EOS and SOS do, south challenge cup, plus an other such as an Alba cup type competition where the winner plays for a Scottish cup spot in the S.E. shield. Where is the space for junior cup too? Unless reserve teams were played....

There have been talks. The North Caledonian League is ready and willing to sit at tier 6, but would need either the North Superleague or a new Grampian league sitting alongside them.

Cheers for that. Looking at it, the only way I can see it working, also addimg the Tayside clubs, would be and East league from Dundee to say Buckie and the rest of the juniors going to the NCL to boost it's numbers. 1 up from each league and 2 down from Highland league.
