  1. The problem for us Morton fans isn't thinking of a disaster, its choosing one which stands above the rest since we are an ongoing, constant shambles and have been for my 25 years on this planet.

    In recent history these all spring to mind;

The stand from St Mirren that has never been put up, Ray MacKinnon, Dylan Dykes.

Appointing a fitness coach manager, paying a fee for Henk Van Schiek, having 1 goalkeeper, Sam Ramsbottom, letting Allan Moore continue for so long, Gary O'Connor, Nacho Novo, Warren Hawke's letters to fans and not letting JJ and Houston play Telfer only for them to quit a few hours before our game then for us to play Telfer anyway.

Good work out for the squad last night against Killie. For quite a few it was their first game of the season and they handled it very well, even in the heat.

Hamilton looks a really decent keeper. He had a couple of erratic moments that I suppose all keepers do, but worth keeping an eye on to see if it's a habit. I've been quite impressed with him so far though.

Defence looks solid, with Lithgow really showing his class by strolling through games. It was Gunning-esq last night from a player who really should be playing at a higher level.

The total unsung hero that Ledger is also having a good game too.

Man of the Match though was Gary Oliver who looks to have found a new lease of life. He's kept the great form he had at the playoff's into this season. If he can keep that up he will be a massive player for us.

Young McGregor who scored a cracking goal I have to say, will be in and about the squad this season. He won't start all the games, but will be used tis season to pick up valuable experience and we will see the full benefit next season.

McGrattan will be similar I would imagine. Two great prospects which is fantastic to see at Morton.

We've still to strengthen with hopefully a bit more quality. Midfield and the forward areas have to be the priority for me.

We really need to sort out our lack of goals. If we can get a player capable of scoring at least 10 league goals and a creative player then I reckon we could have an okay season.

The central argument put forward here was that we would have been in a better position to build a sustainable base had we been relegated. VT steadfastly refuses to substantiate that claim certainty in relation to Newcos financial position.

For my part I too have been far from impressed by what has happened during the transitional. Better tough that things have happened than  a lacuna (low enough scrabble score for you?). It’s not possible to hold anyone properly to account at the moment without knowing who is making these decisions  and whether and to what extent Newco is involved.

Everything in the universe of the Numpty you are white knighting is about criticism and blame. In fact this entire  thread is polluted by personalised rants, mainly from life’s non achievers, denigrating  countless players simply trying to make their way in the game. If only the entire UK subjected the Tory Government to the same level of scrutiny.  But then nothing matters so much as a young lad misplacing a pass.

See the difference is, I'm not VT. I'm simply discussing my view on the situation as that's what this forum is for. I've had plenty of stick from VT on the mortonforum but he's correct about the danger posed to MCT if this season is a turgid failure like last season. Now, I think there is a chance that we can succeed on and off the park this season but that hope diminishes with each day that passes without news, engagement or iniative. I've been contributing to MCT since day 1 and have continued to even through furlough and then further financial woe. I'm fully committed to the project succeeding but there's only so much that can be tolerated. Signing Lithgow tested my resolve. Its entirely reasonable to suggest that some will cancel their subscriptions if progress isn't made this season.

Also, you can't be stoic or take the moral high-ground whilst patronising folk on a football forum for talking about, ehm, football. I care a helluva lot more about politics than I do about Morton, it just so happens that this is a Morton page. I'd take independence over promotion - lets just hope that it won't be a lifetime for either.

Relegation last season would have had a marked impact on the club’s ability to attract commercial borrowing, sponsorship, fan base, gate receipts, quality players etc. Newco would have been starting from an extremely weak base. It’s facile nonsense  to blindly overlook that simply because further down the line “blame” could be pinned on someone else.

Blaming and belittling other people is what a sociopath does as a palliative for his own sorry existence.

Sorry but throwing in a few scrabble high scores doesn't make your point more valid.  How does Cammy Blues qualify as a quality player? Don't get me wrong - at no point did I want us to get relegated. However, what has happened since we won the playoffs has severely dampened my enthusiasm. From signing a sex offender, a 2 year deal for Gus to 3 weeks without a manager update - its just stinking of 'meet the new boss, same as the old boss'. I really hope we see real progress when they hire a new General Manager and officially take the reigns but, from that moment on, they will be responsible for the success of the club.

The last part of your comment is pompous rubbish. Holding the owners of the football club responsible for the performance of the football club isn't "what a sociopath does as a palliative for his own sorry existence." I can't even imagine a universe without blame or consequence of action.

So, basically, relegation a few weeks ago would have been a good thing.......  Because you say so.

However, relegation at the end of the COMING season would be a BAAAD thing....... Because you say so.

I think we're all getting the picture here, champ.

    👍👍👍

    😁

Relegation last season would have been blamed on the Raes so, most likely, MCT would have been fine. Relegation this season would be blamed on MCT which could derail the whole project.

So whilst I don't agree with everything VT has ever said, he is correct in differentiating between the impact of relegation last season and this.

It’s fine lines though, isn’t it?

This season, from where we are, if you offered us 7th - just one massive place up - playing more expansive and aggressive football, we’d all take it.

Long term it’s a bit depressing, but in the immediate term trying to put a squad together to finish above Ayr, Arbroath, and QoS (and hope maybe one of the others go into freefall) is the realistic objective.

We’re not there yet, by any means… but that’s McPherson’s job description. Completely fair to judge him against that; absurd to judge him against anything else.

Its not about whats on the park for me, its about whats happening off of it. The club does nothing to endear itself to its current fanbase and does less than nothing to attract new fans. Focussing solely on staying up will damage the club long term if its at the expense of building the club up in the community and beyond.

Of course those things dont have to be exclusive and, in an ideal world, we would be able to challenge for the promotion playoffs and make lasting change away from the pitch. I just dont have faith Morton can do that.

Do they, though? I might have missed it, but although the monies were paid to the club do we know who will actually get the benefit of it -  the old regime or the new regime?

I think the  earlier grant was conditional on it being used for certain defined purposes within the club - but I don't recall seeing mention of such conditions applying to the  Scottish Government money, although it would be surprising if there were none.

MCT said there was still a significant portion of the 500k that they would inherit after the end of last season.

You're possibly correct, but this is hardly a great slogan for a football club that is coming out of two decades of incompetent stewardship, and absolutely needs fan buy-in on a significant scale to make this new ownership model work.

    - I am not enthusiastic about watching another season of Gusball and hoping that we somehow scrape 8th rather than 9th or 10th with it. This demonstrates no credible ambition for our football club at this level, even if in the short term they will struggle to do any better. It is a crowd-killer.

    - I am not enthusiastic about watching a toothless side score barely (or less than) a goal per game on average, or put in as shameful a display as our zero shots on goal spectacular in the must-win game at Arbroath last season. Also a crowd-killing approach to playing the game.

    - I am not even remotely enthusiastic about watching duds who shouldn't have darkened the door of Cappielow in the first place, getting new deals off the back of failure by the new regime and preparing for another season of totally anonymous and infuriating displays in a Morton jersey.

I might be more jaded and cynical than most, but I don't think I'm alone in holding the above sentiments right now. And by the time it's November and it's pishing down every Saturday and the club and first team is looking a whole lot like the old, failed regime only with different blazers in the club box at Cappielow, then these would place the credibility of the fan ownership scheme in very serious danger.

This could have been a summer of long-overdue change and rebuild after decades of neglect, carried out regardless of the short-term costs. That is a pitch that you can sell even when the new team doesn't play well every week. There will be nothing to sell for this strategy if it relegates us.

I'm in agreement with much of what you said. I was only talking about the race for 8th. However, like you, I don't want 8th to be our ambition, especially not if its achieved through eyebleeding football.

The club has a decent wedge of cash as well from the Government grant so im quite disappointed they didn't take the risk of making big changes knowing that they had that buffer to fall back on if we fucked it.

So true. Especially funny when people from the charming towns of Kirkcaldy, Paisley, Greenock and Kilmarnock are having a pop

Hey! Greenock has...well Greenock is...oh f**k well Greenock isn't full of people from Paisley so we aren't the worst on that list.

Sven is probably one of the only managers who would actually care about the nightlife being a big shagger and all.

Nicky Jamieson is heading to Alloa from QP. Good centre-half, spotted by Grant Jnr.

Glad you got it over the line, really good, motivated young centre-half that wins everything in the air and will keep getting better. Looking forward to seeing him in the Championship but not looking forward to playing against him.

Alloa have won a watch if jamieson has signed for them. Got all the attributes to be a top player at this level, great in the air, good pace and his distribution is outstanding but doesn’t take risks on the ball either.

Was genuinely gutted that he was let go as myself and a few other QP fans thought he was player of the season. There were suggestions that work commitments may have resulted in him not being able to take up full time at QP but also others saying he was just let go.

Good luck to him if it’s true

MacKinnon didnt want to keep him on (I obviously have opinions of Ray but, even putting those aside thats madness). The work stuff came after as he was gutted  not to get a deal and ready to chuck it. Championship football is too hard to resist and, personally, could see him being a cracking player at Alloa.

A ton supporter has suggested that Nicky Jamieson is headed our way , did he leave ,was he freed (has no club as of now ) whats he like ?

You are getting a class player and a committed young player who has had to find his route back into the game the hard way.

    Top 16

Play home and away - 30 games

After 30 games, top 4 split, play home and away

Bottom 4 split, play home and away, bottom 2 straight down, 3rd bottom in a play-off

Middle 8 split in to 2 leagues of 4, play each other home and away, the winners of each group play each other home and away for a Europa League place.

Would the middle 8 be a random draw? Otherwise 9th would be a better finish than 5th-8th

Skyline Drifter has already blown your first “point” out of the water. As for the career advice given in the rest of it,, dearie me.......

You have no idea whether or not McHugh has completed his gas qualification as yet. Even if he has, you have no idea how hard it might be, or how long it might take, for someone newly-qualified to get himself a gig in that industry. You have no idea what his combined income package might be if he combined such a job with part-time football - indeed, had he taken your “advice“ and gone to, say, Alloa I’ve no doubt you’d now be calling that decision pathetic.

The guy has weighed up his options and decided it suits him and his family for him to stay in full-time football with a club that appears to have money and is trying to build momentum. With no knowledge of his situation, who are you to criticise that choice?

I’m afraid the only thing “lazy” and “pathetic” here is your post.

They're not Full-Time. Not sure where this is coming from.
