As "tolka" says above, Sligo Rovers don't have any realistic options when it comes to ticket allocations for visiting fans

They're well-supported. Pull 2,000+ for normal league games. The Bala game sold out.

I went to a game at Sligo when I lived in Dublin in the 1980s. The Showgrounds has improved a wee bit since then. Only holds 5,000 though.

It intrigued me why Sligo was a "soccer" town. It still does. And it still is.

There are no other "soccer" towns out west. East coast, aye. The BBC was accessible on the east coast before satellites.

Markievicz Park likely holds 15,000 or 20,000 these days. Less than a mile away... ag an preachan eitilte. A mite longer by the walking football fan.

    Can't be using that, though.

    Politics and football, eh?

Aside from other physical issues, Markievicz Park has fewer seats than the Showgrounds and it would be fewer again once you needed to segeregate its sole stand.

If you count Donegal as out west there are several 'soccer' towns there where Gaelic has yet (even post 92) to make a serious impact, from spots like Buncrana and Ramelton to even Arranmore. Of course the BBC was also accesible there! Sligo for all of its credentials as a 'soccer' town had a serious issue with producing senior players or decent school / junior teams for decades before the recent brilliant work with their academy started paying fruit (not that this is at all limited to players from the town). The areas below Sligo are very Gaelic orientated.

Sligo's captain, Greg Bolger, was supposed to sign for Motherwell when he was at St Pats but the clubs weren't able to agree a fee. He's had a very good career in the LoI but to be honest he is showing his age a little this season and it is arguably part of the issue with this Rovers team. The two up front are useful on their day - Mata is hit and miss but quite skilful and Keena has totally revived his career over the past couple of months and seems much happier. Other than that they're quite average with an exceptional keeper.

  2. Sligo are a poor enough team in poor enough form. Anyone watching tonight will have noticed that they have an excellent keeper in McGinty though I expect him to leave soon and Luke McNicholas to take over. They seem to have spells where they just get overrun.

A lot of people online seem to be quite annoyed with the ticket allocation but I'm not sure how many tickets they were expecting. It's a decent town with some nice areas close by though and those who get tickets in the raffle will enjoy their trip. Two fan owned clubs too!

Lets dwell on MacPherson’s dead balls in that second half.

Mixing up ambition and ability in a big way. Two minutes to go, everyone up to attack a delivery into the box and he kicks it straight along the ground for a goal kick, along with two others he wasted.

Why the f**k isn’t he being pulled off the kicks by then?!

I can't imagine being a teammate and watching the two frees and the other shot he ballooned over.

The fact it's best "short episode TV" means all the best prestige TV isn't eligible but even then...off the top of my head these are in the conversation for my Top 5:

    Seinfeld
    The Simpsons
    30 Rock
    Curb
    Atlanta

Also, shout out for Party Down.

To add, big fan of The Thick of It here as well.

A list of shows I love and one I haven't watched, which is the ideal list tbh. Cheers.

It's early days and Glass might turn out good but his managerial record is pretty horrific.

    Interim Shamrock Rovers - Won 4 Lost 4 - 50% Not bad

    Atlanta Utd 2 - Won 9, Drawn 9, Lost 20 - 23.68% Really bad

    Atlanta Utd - Won 5, Drawn 4, Lost 10 - 26.32%  Pretty bad

Time will tell, he started off good but today was dreadful. Good luck.

It's a long time ago and probably not reflective at all of where he's at nowadays but winning half your games with Rovers is quite poor tbh.
