My great hope around that time was Louis Laing but that one never quite materialised either, did it?

Kennedy looked ok in spells, but did he not end up with quite a serious illness which pretty much done his professional career?

Aye, he was ill whilst with us and basically didn't play his final season, then had similar issues at the next few clubs he was at. Ended up at Wrexham and a few other places, according to his Wiki.

I'd encourage anyone swithering to go for it, playing at FP once - even in a largely empty ground and you're shit - is something you'll remember.

No doubt there'll be some giggling in the stand but so what, it'll pass quickly.

I would probably have given it some serious thought if I'd been given the opportunity as a non-member a few months ago; a week's notice just isn't enough time for me (that and I'm nowhere near fit enough currently).

For all the subs Kettlewell had made throughout the season. The formation changed about twice.
Blair Spittal was moved to wing back too many times rather than change the shape for example.

This would probably be my biggest criticism of him.

I've yet to see evidence of a Plan B, outside of throwing on players and moving them about to continue with a system that just wasn't working. I hope we sign some players to at least have the potential to change to a 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 with some wingers/wide forwards. I know that's a bit of a luxury for us, but it at least would give us something else to try when the 3-4-2-1 isn't working, or to surprise the opposition etc.

One thing I have noticed so far is that a good few teams are announcing PCAs and the like much earlier than I ever remember them doing.  I know we like to keep our cards close to our chest (for good reason) but I can't help but feel a little jealous...

I think that's partly down to us not knowing our final league position just yet; we're already finishing guaranteed 9th, so that's +£60k on our budget position, but if we finish 7th that's what, an extra £180k or so in prize money? That's a fair wedge for us to sign another player or two/three and might change who we prioritise/target.

As others have said, it seems we're already far down the line in terms of recruitment based on Kettlewell and Frail's comments, but I don't expect us to make many announcements until after the season is over. I'd like one of the first to be an extra year for Bair, so we can hopefully build his value a bit before he outscores Lautaro Martinez at the Copa America and we sell him for £,£££,££££.

I thought we recruited well in January and so I'm fairly confident that we'll have a better summer window this time around.

Aye, I agree with that. As much as some of our signings this year haven't been great (e.g. Wilkinson /Obika), I'd say the majority have done well. January brought us what we needed and we have kicked on since then, at least in terms of results, if not (defensive, mainly) performance.

We're signing that fella from down under and, famously, we've done well out of that market. Nothing to panic about, lads.

Steve McDonald was an absolute treasure.

If our staff costs were £5 million last season and it was a 50/50 split between playing and non-playing costs does that mean the cost on the football side was £2.5 million? Amongst what must have been 40 - 50 employees doesn't seem that outrageous. An average wage of £50,000 - £62,500 based on those numbers? That probably does show it was volume of players rather than available weekly wage that was driving it up.

There will also be payments to outgoing staff as well; Alexander was on gardening leave for a considerable period, too.

After a lovely day out in Dingwall where it was shorts and t-shirt weather will there be sunshine on leith? An afternoon in the capital then the last away game of the season and the train home.  Sounds ideal.  Will Hibs fans expect a lap of honour, will this spur the players on.?

Kettlewell will start with an unchanged team, switch the midfield after 60 then empty the bench to give some stalwarts minutes.

I think I'd prefer Davor to come in for Halliday; I think he's been missed in midfield when he's not started.

There's pros and cons for both, though; I think Halliday is a better passer but Davor has more energy and pace to track back etc.

Clearly these are overall costs so it's a question of how the budget is split. IIRC the chat at our AGM was that it was 50/50 between playing budget and administrative staff (I know @StAndrew7 was also there and paying more attention than me). Either way playing budget and overall budget are two completely different things - this was brought up earlier in the season when folk were clutching their pearls about us having "spent more" in wages than Killie during the time we've been fan owned and the same people still bumped against this despite it being (correctly) pointed out that Killie aren't reporting the same costs as us so you can't make a direct 1:1 comparison (although it didn't stop certain people).

Yup, it was 50/50 split towards team costs and off field costs and, I think, caveated with the team costs including the managerial/coaching team as well.

So what's the view on Kettlewell now the season is basically done? Still on a sticky wicket? or has he bought himself another 6 months? What helped you escape the winless run?

I think he's proven to be a decent young manager who can learn from his (albeit frequent at points) mistakes.

Personally I'm quite looking forward to seeing what he can do with a team that's built around his system with signings he's made himself, having gotten rid of a fair bit of the deadwood in and around the club.

He does have to make better recruitment decisions (Wilkinson, Obika are poor examples) but that's not just on him; we have a head of recruitment who is also part of that.

As for how he turned it around, it was clear from the team's performances that they never once didn't believe in him or turn on him as they did with Alexander and Hammell. He clearly has built a good atmosphere around the club and has expectations for how the players are within that which is getting the best out of a lot of them.

A decent 6/10 for me but I'm expecting him to kick on a bit next season, particularly looking at our defending and cup performances to improve.

Safe to say we differ on this, he's a professional football player, not Halley's comet or the Turin shroud. Where this cotton wool incubator luxury stuff has came from I have no idea, otherwise all summer signings should get regular game time around Bonfire night which isn't a thing. Our returning players will get 3.5 to 4 weeks off between the end of the season and reporting for pre-season, most will keep their basic fitness up and not go on a 4 week bender (Casey aside).

Not asking for him to be "up to speed" just drip fed in here and there since we were told he was a guy we actively pursued with a purpose. An appearance for him also doesn't need tied into us chasing something from a game.

You've literally describing his game time since he joined us with that comment in bold, so what else do you want from him or the management at this point?

Who's to say he's not carrying an injury of some kind, hence his limited time on the pitch? He's contributed to our season in the few games I've seen from him. Also, perhaps the staff deemed getting Paton a run out more important to support his injury recovery.

As for your professional footballer comment, yes, he is. And professionals, in whatever walk of life (football or otherwise), need time to bed into a new job, new surroundings etc. Summer signings have a full pre-season with the squad to bed in and get used to that. Moses has come straight in off the back of a full season in Norway to an already established team without much of a rest or time to integrate, later than any of our other January signings.

Given that we have the capability to give him that time without throwing him in and instantly requiring results from him, shows a good degree of man management and understanding from the coaching staff.

Is Ebiye no that good after all?

He had played an entire season before arriving with us; why risk playing him when he could get injured, when on the quite substantial evidence of our recent performances he's not been really been needed (Dundee aside).

There's absolutely no need for him to be up to speed yet and I'll be looking to judge him next season, not this.

Kettlewell took what, 3 months to bed Davor into the team rather than throwing him in straight away? Now look at him. If we have the luxury of time to afford players to get used to the team and their surroundings, we should use it.

Like many others have pointed out, he's been on the park for about 12.5 minutes (on average) in all of his appearances and has scored one and should have had an assist had Oli Shaw not been Oli FUCKING Shaw.

Unless there’s a project to transition SOD into the back 3 (which I wouldn’t be against)

SOD could move inside.  Unless he wanting to try his luck with a nice pay packet elsewhere.

Aye, I think this would be my preference. It's been pointed out by a few that we do struggle to play the ball out from the back; he'd be ideal as a ball playing centre half of a three. Gives Davor/the ball winner in midfield an option to go back to for the out pass.

    100%.

Kelly at the start was a big shouter/pointer and definitely better with cross balls. Seems to have either been coached out of him or has had a mega mega loss in confidence. Or both.

I'd sincerely hope it's the latter. If our staff are coaching effective, clear and appropriate communication out of our goalkeepers (even if it's unintentional), the lot of them need sacked.

Signing one over the hill keeper called Marshall is enough in my lifetime. Will never forgive Gordon Marshall for the 5-1 cup final defeat when I was a youngster.

He had been absolutely outstanding during the run to the final as well. Some of the saves he pulled off for us were mad that year/period. I remember one at Tynecastle that was up there with Gordon Banks.

Agree. Jury is very much still out but like Nicholson he clearly came in with a view to next season with anything he kicked in immediately being a bonus.

This. How people can have made up their mind about Moses based on his limited time on the pitch this season is bonkers.

He's scored one, should have had an assist as already pointed out by @MurrayWell and all of that in appearances where he's averaged about 12.5 minutes off the bench.

Folk need to ease up a bit.

I'm also sceptical about handing over the keys to FP to EB or anyone else but this is a good point and it's also a massive complication in what our, or any club, is worth. Yes, you can write down X million value for the ground on your balance sheet but someone will only buy it if they know they can build on it - and the prospect of turning McDiarmid, Fir Park or any other stadium into flats or a supermarket against the wishes of the fans because a foreign owner is going rogue is, though not impossible, realistically pretty remote.

The bigger danger of any investor is that they get fed up of their toy, neglect it and start draining it of cash... going totally bust is unlikely but it'll still be incredibly miserable if it goes wrong.

Aye, I think your last point is key here; which is why I think it's imperative that any deal which is agreed has safeguarding(s) in it. e.g. the WS to have first refusal/options on shares purchased which take any investor into majority ownership for the price they bought them at, or at least to refund their total investment to relinquish the shares back to the WS.

If the investment proves to be a success, any money raised by the WS over and above the agreed value of those shares (I would expect the WS to keep that ring fenced should the worst happen), could then still be used to support the club whilst it isn't the majority owner. I'm not sure how many members would continue to contribute towards it if that were what it were to turn into, though. I know a few have said (either on here or on SO) they'd stop their contributions.

Looking forward to hear more about how we're about to move to a 2000 seater stadium in Abernethy while our new owner builds a super-mansion at McDiarmid and saddles us with £20m of debt.

Well if it's not going to happen for you, it'll definitely be Barmack selling Fir Park and building us a soulless shed on the old Ravenscraig site.

I wonder if we might try to get away with two wing-backs coming in...a risk but we obviously can't cover everything the way we'd like.

I expected Slattery to leave but could imagine another year (or even two) now suits both parties after his injury...I know pros recover from cruciates incredibly quickly these days but the middle of coming back seems an odd time to make yourself unemployed.

I'd be happy with two and youngster(s) being given a chance. I've no idea if any of the development squad are wing/full backs, though.

Just got round to watching the highlights , I'll be honest that red card incident wasn't even close to what I was imagining it would be after reading all the comments about it.  I was thinking it was an actual lunging tackle on the Aberdeen player and the debate was that although he got a touch on the ball first it was a dangerous follow through. Surely if thats a red that then sets a precedent for players just to run straight at the clearing player and letting his follow through catch you.

I can see why it was given and I can see why people are annoyed it was given.

I would imagine the club will be assembling an assortment of similar types of challenges on video that weren't red cards for the panel to consider.

I see @thisGRAEME has already added the first piece of evidence for them. 😅
