  1. Aw sorry to hear that, what age is Brodie? He looks pretty happy here, hope you can continue to make his last days happy ones.

Thanks. He’s seven. It’s nearly two months since we had the diagnosis. He’s still doing really well, enjoying all the extra treats and bonus meals he’s getting to combat the hunger caused by the steroids. We agreed that we’d do the palliative route and just keep him going for as long as possible. When we got the diagnosis, we didn’t expect him to see November, but we’re now wondering if he might even see out the year.
  2. Our two after an evening walk chasing some glow in the dark balls. Brodie, the boxer, sadly has cancer in his liver and lungs and is about six weeks into palliative care, so every day we get with him is a bonus. It’s all about trying to make sure he can spend his final days being as happy as we can realistically make him. IMG_2241.jpg

  3. Saw Summer Of Soul on Friday night at the Filmhouse. Absolutely outstanding film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Totally recommended. Will definitely go and see it again when it gets a general release. The musical performances from the likes of Stevie Wonder, The Fifth Dimension, The Staples Singers, David Ruffin, Sly and The Family Stone and Nina Simone amongst many others are utterly exceptional.

  4. Incidentally when he signed for Rangers the papers were full of talk about him being the Scottish League's first black player for years. They were obviously ignorant of Vic Kasule who'd been playing for Albion Rovers and Meadowbank before Walters signed. Scottish football journalism was fucking shite 35 years ago too

The coverage was really shocking when you look back on it now. I think it was a month or so after Walters signed (late December 87 IIRC) Scottish Football Today had a story about his immediate impact on the game here.

The following month, they ran a story on a former Hearts player.

  5. I've mentioned him a few times on several threads, but never by name, but today I will. Alex Hamill, my brother-law https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Hamill
While shovelling snow from the front path on Thursday morning, he felt ill and went in the house to tell my sister.  He had chest and neck pain.  My sister took no risk (as he is never sick) and called 999.  The ambulance arrived and the paramedics were in the house assessing him, during this time he had a full blown heart attack, and was hooked up and taken to Edinburgh Hospital (they stay in central Fife).  He would have died if they were not at the scene.  He is a very fit 59 yo, doesn't drink or smoke and runs every day.  All 5 arteries of the heart were blocked, he has heart disease, and never knew.
Today(Monday) he will be entering surgery for a quadruple bypass.  Good luck Alex.

He also went on to be the assistant manger at Cowdebeath and won promotion, he ended his career at East Fife as player/assistant manger with friend Steve Archibald.

    Good luck
  6. Some great shouts already in this thread. I think I’d go with the following.

    Dummy - Portishead
    Maxinquaye - Tricky
    Blue Lines - Massive Attack
Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters - The Twilight Sad
A Walk Across The Rooftops - The Blue Nile

I'm going to see Mogwai at the Leith Theatre next month, otherwise I'd have looked at this. Last saw Twilight Sad supporting Chvrches a few years back and they were pretty fucking decent.

Got myself a ticket for Ocean Colour Scene in December and Chvrches in February as well, can't wait.

Also going to Mogwai in Leith.  Got The Twilight Sad at the Liquid Rooms in November.  They were excellent at Hyde Park on The Cure's 40th Anniversary gig a couple of weeks ago.

  8. I posted about it on Facebook last night and then before I know it this morning I get a WhatsApp message from the girlfriends dad saying thats the tickets bought as an early Christmas present.  Really looking forward to see Code Orange as well who are the main support.  Never been to a gig outside the UK before.
Not sure the girlfriend knows what she'll be letting herself in for!

Enjoy! Looks an excellent gig! Saw Code Orange supporting Gojira in March and then again at Download. Absolutely loved them.
  9. The Jesus & Mary Chain at the ABC tonight. Been wanting to see them for years, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Heading through for this as well. Been wanting to see them for around 30 years!!
  10. Have the **** still not congratulated hibs yet? Talk about being bad losers. Ffs.

To be fair, Davie Weir's now come out and commented on the game.  http://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/well-learn-final-defeat/

“It’s disappointing to get in to a winning position as well and not hold on to that, so many aspects of the game we were disappointed with but within that as well you have to give Hibs credit for winning the Cup.

“With all that has been going on this weekend sometimes that has got lost a little bit, so credit to them, they played better than us on the day and in my opinion deserved to win.â€

Still no sign of the magic hat though...
  11. I was at this on Saturday too, absolutely incredible gig, never seen the Barrowlands bouncing like that.

Agreed.  One of the best gigs I've been to in years.
