Beastie Russell
We have central midfielders but im struggling to name one that can open up the play, play a killer pass and score 10+ goals a season. We dont play that way. We play guys like Davidson and Toshney to stiffle the middle of the park, and ask wide players to create.

Callachan once he gets going will chip in with a few goals and played some great balls.
Raith25
Callachan once he gets going will chip in with a few goals and played some great balls. The same Callachan who played 32 times scoring a grand total of 2? the boy couldn't hit a barn door and going on the play off second leg can't play a decent ball either. I'm probably harsh on him because I feel we've got better players and the fact he kept his place during a 7/8 game spell where he was woeful was ridiculous but don't think he's cutting edge midfielder you think he is

I'm probably harsh on him because I feel we've got better players and the fact he kept his place during a 7/8 game spell where he was woeful was ridiculous but don't think he's cutting edge midfielder you think he is Callachan was slow in getting his form back after his injury but I would've said through our terrific run from January onwards that he was one of the first names on the team sheet. He plays best in an advanced role where he wins the ball back high up the pitch, presses defences and moves the ball about well. Our midfield tends towards perspiration over inspiration at times, but we had McCord last season who had the range of passing but not the energy or fitness to compete. The player we really need to replace in terms of goals from midfield is Craigen: Tucking in and cutting inside to add more presence to the middle, he was very good at getting beyond the striker. Sometimes Callachan tries too hard for the hollywood pass but that's not exactly a failing unique to him either No, he doesn't get on the score sheet enough and he should never have been near the corners late into that second play off game (he looked dead on his feet) but overall he's a decent midfielder who adds to our attack. Why shouldn't we. All the best sides play with creativity in the middle of the park. The best Raith sides in the past 20 years or so had quality creative midfielders that scored the goals when the strikers maybe didn't.

A 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 type formation screams for a guy with a free role behind the striker(s), a 4-4-2 with two wingers doesn't, you want your central players to cover the space left by the winger/full back, to carry and distribute the ball. That team that just finished was easily one of the best Rovers teams in the last twenty years (as sad as that may be) and it's main goal scoring threat from midfield came from a wide player who tucked inside.

Rovers1992/1993
Hopefully Do you get notifications whenever Sutton's name gets mentioned? It's not just this thread but the Queens thread and the Dundee United thread have both mentioned him over the last couple of months and you've appeared minutes afterwards on both occasions Edited June 2, 2016 by Rovers1992/1993

If you take Sutton and Brad McKay off our hands, I'll be very happy. Make it so please.

We've already got Benedictus,Toshney and Barr who can all play in that position so couldn't see it being him but would take Sutton in a heartbeat for this level.
