Talking to my mum today about my old primary school headteacher, who is now in a care home.

Mum: "He had a beautiful wife, but spent years having an affair with the primary 4 teacher"

Now, the assumption i had worked with for decades was that he was shagging the (gorgeous) primary 2 teacher. All my schoolpals the same. It was common knowledge. No, mum insisted (she worked at the school). Primary 4.

I won't name her, but she was a bitter, horsey looking, nasty woman. She was in her 40s but looked in her 60s. Evil as a teacher. Probably ate babies and kicked puppies down mineshafts.

Feels like my whole childhood was a lie. This guy called our class "The Unteachables". And now this.

Is this a riddle?

If it's 2567 have

a) Dundee won the Scottish Cup yet and

b) Celtic released a 600 years of the Lisbon Lions DVD?

I got in The Time Machine and apparently Dundee haven't fixed their pitch in 2567 as The Morlocks Rangers fans are still moaning about it

I forgot to mention this last week buy a guy I work with got a substantial tax rebate a month or so ago then last week got two letters saying he was due them money now, £500 more than the rebate.

He was on hold to HMRC most of Friday basically screaming g his N.I number at his phone getting the "sorry, I didn't quite catch that" back. He's from Cornwall, so it's not just Scottish boys they don't understand.

Dealing with HMRC is a complete nightmare even when you do get through. You spend an hour on hold then get put through to either a complete simpleton or someone who can barely speak English.

My experience recently was a little different.  I'll get a reduced state pension as my NI contributions for the vast majority of my working life were "contracted out" meaning that I have a superannuation pension and also because I took early retirement. I can mostly remedy that by making additional voluntary NI contributions, which I'll financially benefit from if I live long enough to get my state pension for just under 3 years.  It was all explained quite logically... One years contributions costs £X, each additional year bought gets an extra £Y per week for as long as I receive it.

I'm minded to buy some years, but haven't done anything about it yet as I have until next April (AIUI) to do it.  Anyone else doing it?

(I should maybe have put this in the "Retirement" thread...)

Explain in football terms.

Ok.

Rangers good, Celtic bad.  All other teams ok-ish, except Raith Rovers who are the best of the rest.  That's the big picture.

It therefore logically follows that if my previous matches played (NI contributions) haven't been good enough to give me the outcome I want, I can pay a sum of money to play more matches (buy more NI contributions) to allow me to achieve the necessary points total.

I think that's pretty clear now.

Do PnBers take extreme measures to avoid women in public or just act normally?"

I read the first half of her tweet in a John Inman voice.

I think the worst part of that whole thing is the word "cankles".

Slightly different circumstances  for me but similar - I live abroad so needed to make up x number of years contributions to achieve the full state pension.  It's a fairly simple calculation and decision - x amount per week to get an extra year's contribution to get x amount extra state pension.  For me it was a no brainer to pay the extra amounts. The only unknown is death - you may die before you get back what you've paid in but I'm an optimist.
