Were the revelations of the naming rights being sold for a quid a shock to you? They were to me, I knew they'd sold the name but for a quid? The point is that your club is owned by spivs whose sole intention is to maximise profit and it has been shown that they will sell anything. What will we read about being sold next? Homer Thompson Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Ashley company is the sole licensee for the majority of those entries when it comes to retail, I imagine he is trying to protect his deal to sell anything connected to those brands (in a retail sense) Rangers have seen it as a way to cut costs, 50 staff + Rent, Rates and running costs for the retail arm is not insignificant, however I have no doubt the arrangement is more profitable for Ashley and other individuals than it will be for Rangers. So Ashley owns the licences? Is that not just selling the Intellectual property rights for a set period of time. How long does he own the exclusivity for? It also appears to have been done before the completion of the IPO. Surely anyone investing in New Rangers shares should have been informed that the naming rights for the stadium did not belong to the club/company? The implication of this is obvious. Naming rights are a valuable asset, and non ownership could ultimately affect the perceived value of the club/company. The fact this deal has been kept under wraps from shareholders, who ultimately own the club/company makes it seem all the more dubious. A £1??? stonedsailor Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 I am always concerned, as I said earlier, this is a shite deal for Rangers, we are being run by parasites who care nothing for the club, however a disillusioned support spend considerably less money and the current situation will start hurting these guys, I for one have not bought any official merchandise for around 2 years, this latest news will undoubtedly harden peoples views further. Sure many fans reluctantly bought ST`s this year but number are massively down, as are match day tickets and cup ticket sales are abysmal, I see nothing coming from the board to reverse this trend. These fans have not disappeared, they would still come back if significant change was put in place. These guys wont get hurt. All they have to do is sit back and watch the money hitting their account. When it runs dry they wont care about the club or company or the gullible fans they will throw what's left aside and move on to the next venture. You are deluded to believe otherwise. Through Rangers Retail the parties agree to run jointly the production, supply and sale of branded products and carry out retail activity at the Club’s superstore at Ibrox and on the Club’s online webstore. No mention of selling the naming rights. Make off that what you will, but it does seem that a transaction appears to have been made, which wasn't disclosed. I suppose it's all down to what someone thinks the naming rights are actually worth, however, taking a wild stab in the dark, I bet it's worth more than a pound.
