Arch Stanton
Hell or High Water, excellent acting from Pine and Bridges even if the latter's Texan accent is a bit indecipherable at times. 7/10

JustOneCornetto
5 hours ago, jam20 said: Arrival - 8/10 Great Sci Fi film that didnt rely on big explosions and action. Amy Adams was great in this as well. Just back from seeing this and I'd give it a 9/10 Arrival is a must see and not just for sci-fi fans, very thought provoking and agree with jam that Amy Adams was terrific. Villeneuve is building up an impressive body of work and seems to have been heavily influenced by Stanley Kubrick taking a very long time to complete each film, very good use of imagery and music and willing to challenge himself over a range of genres. Feeling quite comfortable that he'll be directing Blade Runner 2049
Biscuits
Arrival - can't give this a rating cos I don't know if I thought it was brilliant or shit. Don't think it's as good as everyone's saying.

Ludo*1
Arrival - Brutal, predictable cheeseball, Hollywood ending aside - very thought provoking. Imagine if aliens did decide to land and we have Donald Trump, May and Putin as just three of the world leaders to greet them. They'd be fucking off again sharpish.
GrahamJags
A Street Cat Named Bob - 2/10. The 2 is for the cat. The lead guy is absolutely brutal. American Pastoral - 6/10. Probably drags on for longer than it needs to, but quite enjoyed this. Dakota Fanning is great in it.

Christophe
The Greasy Strangler 7/10 Christ! I knew this was gonna be a bit weird but fuckinell! It's kinda like Napolean Dynamite but more extreme and deliberate in its shitness, think it tips over more to the 'so bad it's bad' side of things rather than 'so bad it's good'. A film that needs to be experienced however -
Christophe
Nocturnal Animals 8/10 Great film (story within a story scenario, Amy Adams is divine, lovely cinematography natch, natch, natch) but the opening credits are probably the most disgusting thing I've witnessed on the big screen. Seriously, I nearly lost my fish supper over the old burd in front of me. They also insulted my sensibilities as a feminist. -
Christophe
Fish Tank 5/10 Bit of council estate realism from one of Britain's few reasonably well-known female directors (Andrea Arnold). Funny how realism dates isn't it. Like 50s post-war European realism seems sort of absurdly manufactured now. Same with this, to a certain extent. A diverting two hours in the life of a girl approaching womanhood with her shit parent and shit prospects and no way out except for a horse and a slightly grabby Michael Fassbender and a pikey guy with a horse and a knackered Volvo. Not relentlessly grim, but grim, and kind of poetic in its way. I think films like this always end up feeling a bit heavy-handed. Lead role is played by a non-actor and it starts to tell -

Christophe
The Resurrection Of Jake The Snake 8/10 Good film. As much about addiction as wrestling, and what a fucking ledge DDP is -
killiepiemuncher
Nocturnal Animals 8/10 Great film (story within a story scenario, Amy Adams is divine, lovely cinematography natch, natch, natch) but the opening credits are probably the most disgusting thing I've witnessed on the big screen. Seriously, I nearly lost my fish supper over the old burd in front of me. They also insulted my sensibilities as a feminist. I don't know what they were thinking with the opening scenes. It kind of puts you off recommending the film, which otherwise was brilliant.

accies1874
Gone Girl: Very, very fucked up, but I really liked it. It's edge of your seat pretty much the whole way through it, and considering it was 2 and a half hours, the fact that it didn't really drag in at all is a good achievement. The acting in it is great as well. 8.5/10
cas79
Excellent film I turned it off after 20mins thinking this is gash, but gave it another go and loved it
Christophe
The Handmaiden 9.6/10 Utterly gorgeous piece set in 1940s Japanese-occupied Korea. Directed by the same fella who did Oldboy. Erotic thriller that twists and turns.
