Scottish Independence

I was at a public Independence meeting the other night and someone said: "Why does Alex Salmond want to take off the shackles of Westminster and put on the shackles of Brussels?" Another said: "Why does Salmond want independence from Westminster and not from Brussels. Could it be to do with racialism?"

Sums up your #BetterTogether types for me.

Racialism??? Hahahaha.

Yep, all those awkward questions you'd rather they didn't ask.

An integrity move by the First Minister. I applaud the apology ordering. Not often I have praise for politicians, but credit to Alex Salmond.

The question is, why his politcal spokesperson thinks such a move was acceptable - or even useful - in the first place.

I don't think an apology is sufficient in this case.

Weak from Salmond.

No idea. Dont have much faith in journalists either tbh. But the public slap down from Alex Salmond is heartening.

What do journalists have to do with anything in this case?

Publis slap down is a bit OTT 0 he doesn;t say anything critical of Gunn from what i can see.

No one cares about the Wings article, it's the fact the First Minister's spokesperson sent an unsolicited email containing false information to a newspaper about someone inovled in a politcal campaign,

Maybe in your head no one cares, but this most recent example of Labour lies being exposed again shows the deceit the party and wider BT campaign will sink too.

Also in your attempt to deflect this issue into questioning the role of civil servants briefing the press, I must admit surprise. I would have thought any unionist would be wary of venturing into that territory.

The UK civil service consistently brief the press against independence. Perhaps we do need a big enquiry into the whole issue of civil service involvement in the referendum.

Gunn is/was a political journalist.

Being publicly ordered to apologise is a slap down any way you spin it.

Integrity move from Alex Salmond

The story is being reported in terms of Gunn, I'm not deflecting anything.

yes, lets look at the First Minister's quote again.

"I've instructed the special adviser to apologise for any offence that's been caused by that - but she's not Pat Lally's daughter-in-law, she is an ordinary mother and she's absolutely entitled to express a view, as indeed every other person in Scotland is."

any offence caused...hmmm....
