kingjoey
McInnes is confident that Maddison will return, looking to speak to McGinn's agent by end of the month and sounds like he's looking to loan Cammy Smith to a club that will actually play him.
jmothecat
Mcinnes confirms Cardiff came in with a 2nd offer 'structured differently' and they were told to poke it. Sounds like it wasn't even increased beyond £500k. Warnock can seriously gtf. So basically same money but not in instalments?

I'm guessing it would still be instalments just slightly more up front than offered before, maybe £200k or something. Derisory, as they say.
shootingboots
Should put Cammy Smith on loan to Morton.

jmothecat
Apparently Saturday is the first Scottish cup tie at Pittodrie since 2014.
Dons_1988
In fairness we've only had 3 ties since then and one was the semi at ibrox
Guest
Sounds like Cardiff are nowhere near our valuation Slightly more confident of keeping Hayes now, which would be huge for the rest of the season
starryfish
Radio Scotland reporting last night the original Hayes deal on offer was £150k up front then instalments, derisory indeed.

FFS that's a disgrace. The money those clubs have as well. Put the c***s on ignore (or whatever the equivalent is).

jessmagic
In summary - Maddison was in better form then McGinn at cup final. Young players not good for the first team. Too soft. Blames development league. Craig Storie not pushed on in training. Not been good enough in development league. Miles Storey struggling with pressure of playing for a bigger team, but thinks there is a player in there. Agreed we didn't turn up in cup final. Were not aggressive enough. New stadium could be worth 150k more per home match, this would be key for investing in the team. Thinks Shinnie is a better cm than full back.
jmothecat
Storey stuff is interesting. I had all but assumed he would be gone during this window but wondering if that may not be the case.

Did he say what he would change about the Development League or replace it with if he had the chance?

Also don't think reserve football is the answer. Too few players in the squads for a proper reserve league. And I'd rather not go back to the days of the late 90s and early 00s with massive squads full of utter dross. We need a massive overhaul of the loan system to see lower league clubs taking far more elite youngsters on loan and play them week in, week out or it will be colt teams in the league.Reserve football wouldn't exist now in the form it used to due to far tighter budgets. It also wouldn't address the lack of competitive game time. The consensus on Pie and Bovril is no colt teams. So we need a serious overhaul to get more elite youngsters out on loan into the lower leagues in their late teens.Of course it won't happen. We'll have a rebrand of the development league to a reserve league and continue to utterly fail to produce first team ready youngsters.
capt_oats
The whole development league/reserve league argument is completely disingenuous. Sides can play 5 overage players in their u20s if they choose. So as things stand with squads as they are a change to a 'reserve' league would be nothing more than semantics, unless people are actively encouraging the idea of filling up squads with jobbers for no reason other than to have them kick kids in reserve games. There's no doubt that there's a gap between u20s football and first team football but some players have been able to make the transition better than others. The whole misty-eyed reminiscing for "reserve" football is nostalgic pish tbqh. Edit: Aberdeen currently have 9 players out on loan to lower league sides, I'm assuming most of them are players from the 20s, so it'd seem they're getting "competitive" football via the loan system as it is. How many of them is McInnes likely to play though? If they're out on loan but not good enough for the first team then I don't see how that's the dev league's fault.
