He's a solid favourite. 1/10 with Sky Bet. Next favourite is 7/1.

He's a MASSIVE, step-up from the likes of Di Canio and Poyet, but this could easily turn into another Felix Magath situation.

Talksport were giving it the 'Yeh, Advocaat's maybe managed around the world...but he's never managed in the Barclay's Premier League before.' shite. There are times you can only laugh.

They were well worth the win in the end so fair play. 4pts separating 2nd-5th now.

Pretty amazing to think Liverpool were 17 points behind Man City at one point. Going to be very interesting especially with so many big games still to come.

That argument is of course b*llocks, but Advocaat isn't exactly young these days, and it's been a long long time since he's taken over a team that weren't already pretty good.

Advocaat takes charge at Sunderland. Can see this ending similar to Magath at Fulham tbh

Either that or he keeps them up by one point or goal difference. This buys him next season where he leaves with Sunderland Firmly stuck in a relegation battle, and the cycle continues.

If I was a Sunderland fan I'd certainly be more impressed by getting someone with Advocaat's record, rather than a relegation expert like Warnock or Redknapp or someone who got sacked before he could get his team relegated like Lambert. People put too much store by the "Premier League experience" mantra. Unless you're at the top end of the table, the only manger you're going to get with PL experience is one who has already failed at least once. It's hardly like Advocaat won't be able to get up-to-date with the players at his disposal fairly quickly.

I think of Sunderland as a bit like Hibs. Seem to be percieved as a far bigger club than they actually are, and have done virtually nothing for their entire existance. Both seem very difficult clubs to manage. It's probably pretty hard to attract players to the North-East, and even if you can any good player is going to pick Newcastle over Sunderland, so they're kind of left with the dregs like Lee Cattermole. They'll get someone in who'll probably keep them up, have a poor season next year and in a years time they'll be looking for another manager.

Sunderland: In the top 8 most successful clubs in England, won more titles than the likes of Chelsea and Man City, pulled off the biggest FA Cup Final shock of all time, average well over 40,000 crowds.

Hibs: Four time Scottish Champions, Two Scottish Cups, 3 League Cups and played in Europe.

Their perception as big clubs is deserved, they just massively underachieve on a regular basis these days. Good job for Advocaat, think they'll stay up. They need rid of folk like Brown and O'Shea though, they are stealing a wage.
