This game means very little to Costa Rica now. Italy have a goal difference of 0 and Uruguay -1, while Costa Rica are sitting on three and have the head-to-head advantage over both sides. So the question is, will Costa Rica play a full-strength side?

The first international tournament I remember is Euro 88, which is the last time England lost all three games. They famously lost to the Republic of Ireland narrowly and were then smashed up by the Netherlands (Van Basten hat-trick) and the USSR.

Costa Rica 2nd string team to beat England. How fucking funny would that be.

They're still WC squad players, and every one of them will be playing for a place in the next game.

England, on the other hand, just want the whole thing over and done with.

Costa Rica win.

If I was English I'd like to see some of the younger players given a chance in this one:

Hart

Johnson

Shaw

Jones

Cahill

Wilshire

Henderson

Lallana

Barkley

Oxlade-Chamberlain

Rooney

You just put Lallana in because you felt a bit sorry for him, didn't you?

England are genuinely short of attacking midfield players, I think the inclusion of the likes of Lallana, Johnson and Henderson shows England's lack of depth/quality in different positions. Hodgson can try to force 4 forwards into the attacking midfield/forward positions all he wants, but it'll never bring balance.

Costa Rica current world champions according to @UFWC_Football

England win the title on Tuesday?

Yeah I enjoy reading that site, interesting to note in their World Rankings Scotland are comfortably number one, ahving won more unofficial "World Cup Finals" than anyone else

England to play all their young/fringe players, beat a not too bothered Cost Rica and the media go ballistic about this being the future and England will win the World Cup in 2018.

France got papped out in the first round in South Africa and are looking good here.

So there's no reason England can't do well in 2018.

They need to bin the old shite and guys like Lallana though.

England team

Foster

Jones, Smalling, Cahill, Shaw

Milner, Lampard, Wilshere, Barkley

Lallana, Sturridge.

Wouldbhe surprised if that defence doesnt throw in a few goals.

Costa Rica to win and both teams to score is around 7/1.

I believe England have actually played way better in this tournament than previous ones however haven't got the results. I'd probably put the results down to a more inexperienced defence when compared to previous campaigns.

My prediction is a draw or England to just edge it.

Costa Rica 1 - 1 (or 2) England

Either way I can't really see the 'miracle' happening.

Probably be more of a 4-3-3, which with the benefit of hindsight is probably how we should have started the tournament.

Ah well.
