Bigmouth Strikes Again
Your neighbours have paid 40k in compensation for Durnan, who was with us 3 years. Holt was with us 11 so I'm expecting a tribunal will give us about 100k for him. Good for you.

die hard doonhamer
Who out of the two is the better player in your opinion? Both similar quality but I'd say Holt shades it.
Hawk
Holt is good playing as a wingback and effective going forward.Durnan is the better, stronger defender and is more of a goal threat.

Holt is a hybrid between cafu and Ashley Cole who will go on and be sold for £15 million.

jagfox
Holt is a Dee and Durnan is a DAB so I would say Holt is the better man

So signing cart horse journey men like John Sutton (instead of young developing talent) is the answer..
perthsaint1977
So signing cart horse journey men like John Sutton (instead of young developing talent) is the answer.. young development talent that you need to buy in as you can't develop your own. Makes sense. John Sutton is a good addition to our squad. May have had a few clubs but he has done what paid to do at every one of them , score goals. It was a no brainer for us to sign him with Brian Graham opting to leave for Ross county. Usual Dundee mentality, everyone they sign or linked too is decent / good etc but every player saints sign is crap or worse. Once again come end of the season the unfashionable saints squad will again have out performed Dundee.

RandomGuy.
So signing cart horse journey men like John Sutton (instead of young developing talent) is the answer.. We'll have three players who we've brought through our own youth ranks involved this season, they'll likely make about 25-30 appearances combined, depending on form or injury. How many will Dundee have?

How many will Dundee have? Who are the three players? Chris Kane? We have Calvin Colquhoun, Cammy Kerr and all going smoothly, Craig Wighton in the second half of the season - they might not quite make 25 appearances for us combined, but they'll not be far off it and all three are expected to be big players for us. Also expect the likes of John Black and Matty Allan to perhaps make an appearance here or there by the end of the coming season. But that's just the youth we've developed from scratch, doesn't tell the whole story about the other youths we've been pinching from down South to develop.
RandomGuy.
Reading the St Johnstone thread, many don't rate two of them. One of them, as it would be stretching it to claim Brown as being developed by us. Regardless, the point stands that we'll have three club grown players involved, with the likes of McKay, Shaughnessy and Brown also young players who'll be involved. In summary we're one of the most active sides at youth development at the moment.

Caddis wont amount to much, although hes got a standout performance in Europe on his CV, the other two will be good enough at this level. All three could come straight in and wouldnt seriously harm us. And we went through the whole bringing in any random youth from England a few seasons ago, its a waste of money. Scott Brown is the only one whos survived that, although Marcus Maddison was also here and is now incredibly highly rated down South.

Sutton hardly set the world alight last year...

Sutton hardly set the world alight last year... 13 goals in a team that didn't score many and he didn't start many after January. Not too bad really - certainly better than any of our strikers last season.

Zander Clark is unlikely to make many appearances for you, if any this season unless Mannus gets an injury, which I suppose isn't out of the realm of imagination. Having seen him regularly whilst we were in the Championship, he's not gonna take hold of the number one jersey as long as St Johnstone are a side with ambitions to finish in the top 6. Caddis I know very little about, so I'll take your word on it that he won't amount to much. Chris Kane is a real prospect admittedly like Wighton is for us. Having seen our own prospects quite regularly, have to disagree with you on the importing from England factor as Ben Priest, Sam Dryden, Dylan Carreiro and Andrew Black (Admittedly from Hibs and not down South) all look like they could make their mark for Dundee in the future and promising things have been said of those I haven't seen such as Jesse Curran. I'd say our youth system is flourishing at the moment, but the only way we'll truly know I suppose is by how many appearances they make for the club in the next 3-4 seasons.
