As much as dundee fans are talking about a summer clearance, will they be able to bring in enough players of sufficient quality to improve the squad? Especially if need to release so much shite

He was at Cowdenbeath before Barnsley. O'Dea was another, didn't get his contract renewed in India. David Clarkson broke records in the short time he was at the club and done a job. Gadz was plucked from literally nowhere. O'Hara was free to leave Killie. Haber wad a St Johnstone reject.

Yes but apart from Gadz and Haber these are hardly players that people didn't know were already fairly decent.

Haber was also a signing that smacked of desperation at the time as there wasn't much else available but has worked out well.

I will give you that he has spotted something in O'hara but he has hardly been a rip roaring success. He has had a few games where he has been very good but he has had just as many games where he has been one of the worst players on the park.

An eye for a player is still a myth when you consider how many out of the 50 players has been absolute shite

From O'Dea. Bit bizarre in regards to the night out comment.

It's a bit "If im away to get into a fight with a bigger boy, then I hope my mates jump in because im a total wet blanket"

Fuckin man up O'Dea!

The reason Haber was signed was Hartley realised that his signings weren't good enough for the passing game (out the cup & bottom of the league) and it was time for the big punt up the park so yes it did smack of desperation.

I always think pre-contract signings / early signings are a clear indication of a player that the manager is desperate to sign before any other team gets near them.  These are the players he presumably had a lot of faith in:

Loy - not good enough and out on loan - 3 year deal

Low - constantly injured (was like that at Aberdeen so no surprise) - 3 year deal

Ross - presumably doesn't rate him highly given the signings he has made since and his lack of first team games - 3 year deal

Williams - presumably doesn't rate him given his lack of first team games - 3 year deal

Vincent - does Harltey know his best position? - 3 year deal

Simply not good enough.

Vincent -

In a sea of depression this amused me.

It reads like you've been talking to Vincent and he's just fecked off in disgust.

The more I see of McGowan's comments and now O'Dea this looks more than just some call to arms for the team but possibly a real us and them split between individual players now being reflected not just on the pitch but in the media too.  It would explain the utter shambles we have just witnessed.

And if this is the case then again the buck stops with the manager. It's not just who he plays, it's who he doesn't. It must be galling for anyone in this situation knowing that no matter how shite it gets you'll never get on the pitch. Equally shite being on the pitch watching others off it picking up a wage while never having to perform, and more particularly shite being in this situation having watched two of the teams best performers walk away for comparative peanuts and a third be shown the door for obviously a disciplinary matter.Top that off by playing in front of a keeper who by his own admission is marking time to the end of the season.
Not all of these things are the manager's fault, but a high percentage of them are things he could do something about.

O'Dea - Overall a good controlling influence. The positioning against Aberdeen, and others, looks like a problem with the manager. If we are to mark players well away from goal before they run in we must hold them tight to prevent any momentum before the cross comes in. We should have adjusted to 3 zone-al markers with others blocking runs. This is surely managers instructions problem

Good point about others blocking runs - if midfield had done their job properly and then quite a few of those goals would be not have been conceded with as they would be not have got the the free run they ended up with up getting.

Could be worse they could having a punch up (if it can be called that) on the pitch.

At least it shows some form of passion on the park

Yet on the park there all a bunch of shitebags. All fucking words yet doing f**k all on the pitch.
O'Dea needs to lead that defence by example rather than being a donkey.
McGowan needs to stop running about like a utter fanny and just stick with the basic and stop blaming everyone else for his mistakes.

Other than that togetherness seems good [emoji6]

Maybe instead of the usual 'Positional Awareness' training the squad should have a massive rumble and the survivors will be the starting eleven.
