General Election 2015

Anyone earning the minimum wage will still be paying some tax, plus national insurance, VAT etc. I wouldn't say they aren't contributing, and they are earning such a small amount the burden on them should be minimal.

I think it's only fair that the well off pay their share to the benefit of the less well off.

What's more important? Everyone contributing, or the worst off benefitting?

Oh don't get me wrong, I would like to see a massive redistribution of wealth in this country. Quite simply, there's more than enough money to go round.

And I wasn't commenting on the specific policy, just a general observation. The narrative of the last few years has returned to the old 19th century deserving/undeserving poor. There's a stigma being created - intentionally by those on the political right. The idea that the nhs, benefits, the old age pension are handouts from the government rather than what they are: things are paid for by the people.

As a socialist, I actually oppose taking the lowest earners being taken out of the tax system.

I think they should be taxed at a very low rate - but the principle of contributing to society is a big one imo.

It's a bit like making your teenage sprog pay a minimal amount of digs when they get their first job. It's not about the amount, it's the principle.

I'd call myself a socialist too but I agree with lifting the lowest earners out of income taxation. A large part of that is because most of the people earning in that bracket will also be receiving benefits. If we lift low earners out of taxation and benefits (to a significant degree at least) it'll just be a lot more efficient and sensible.

If I was in that position, I'd rather keep more of my earnings and receive less benefits.

Watching the TV the other night, and when questioned, Cameron didn't rule out a deal with UKIP.

He avoided the question.

Big surprises I think are ahead next month in terms of UKIP seats.

I'd imagine FPTP will f**k UKIP. Just as it's done to the SNP in the past. They may well get a reasonable share of two vote but that doesn't mean they'll win many seats. If they do, it's probably the Tories who will suffer, so it's all good.

Declining birth rates

Labour seem genuinely astonished they're even being questioned on their awful record at Westminster. They've been the major party in Scotland for as long as I've been alive just about - how on earth has this not been questioned sooner?

God I'm excited. Going to be a miserable election for me I fear, but God I love election night.

Yep me too. Will be the first one ever, since I was about 15 that I won't be stuck in front of a telly for, but I'll be lucky enough to be in a far better place for it. :)

I'm new to this voting malarkey, I got a poll card through the door, do you just head along and vote, need id?

I think it says somewhere that you should have id - but I've certainly never been asked.

It's a cool experience mate, enjoy it.

Unless you live in Northern Irelabd you don't need ID. Speeds things up slightly if you take your poll card, but as long as you can remember your name and address that is enough.

All those years ago I thought voting for the first time was the best thing ever. Well up there with the first underage pint!

I really hope you get the full experience with folk from the parties greeting you at the polling place and maybe asking who you chose for an exit poll when you leave.

Enjoy son!☺

I hope you experience the candidate of your choice winning (only if you're voting SNP mind). The real enjoyment will be if you kick out an old Labour drone; you will feel that you have actually made a difference - that's not a feeling you get every day.

Some of the councils did this during the 2011 election. Fife rings a bell. They were roundly criticised for it.

Look on the bright side though Your one could be the one that makes all the difference.
