Title Challengers

Despite Accies shock win at Parkhead, I think we can all agree that any team mounting a continued challenge for the entire season is slim.

Assuming Celtic continue to drop points every few weeks, what teams have the strongest chance of keeping decent form with the squad depth to deal with injuries over the winter?

It's time for there to be a major attitude adjustment in Scottish football. Celtic may have a far superior squad of players and much more money at their disposal than anyone else, but it doesn't mean they are necessarily a better 'team'. There are only 38 matches in a league season. We are almost a quarter of the way through the season and Celtic are currently 6 points behind the pace (albeit with a game in hand). It's time for a bit of belief. There has to come a time when one of the Old Firm sides will not win the Scottish Premiership, but I believe that time will come a lot sooner if other sides stop treating it as a foregone conclusion before the season has even begun. Hamilton, Dundee United, Aberdeen, Inverness.. You are perfectly capable. The time has come.

Should celtic not be top come Xmas they'll bin deila and get someone else in, exactly like they did with Mowbray so celtic will still be yardstick for all other teams. Added to the fact they have already horsed dundee utd who are one of the teams up challenging at the top

Time for you to get a grip on reality more like.

You think Dundee United drew at home to Hamilton or lost at Kilmarnock because they've already given up on the title?

No. It's because none of the other teams in the league are good enough to beat the rest week in week out.

If United had kept the good form going from last mid-season, kept hold of Gauld and Robertson, added another couple of top quality players, and with Celtic keeping this form going, maybe, just maybe.

But, that didn't and isn't going to happen!

I thought it was because of the pitch?

McNamara quoted as saying we were "second best" also specifically saying not because of the pitch.

Try being magnanimous in victory rather than making stupid comments.

I was actually referring to ArabFC's tear-stained pitch diatribe on the match thread rather than McNamara. On the same thread I actually praised JM's reaction.

Nice try though.

Show me at what point I blamed the pitch for United's defeat.

We were shite, end of!

My views on astroturf are an altogether different matter. I don't like playing on them, and nor do many others.

It is good that this is happening more often, teams beginning the season well and Celtic not quite yet getting into gear. However the reality is that no team realistically will mount a serious challenge because despite Celtic being poor they are still going to more consistently pick up points over the course of the season. They will lose the odd game and drop a few points here and there, but every other team will suffer a horrendous run of form at one point or another during the season.

I would love to think that another team could realistically win/challenge for the title, but it won't happen.

The 3 surprise standouts so far have been Alex Neil's Hamilton, Yogi Hughes' Inverness and Allan Johnston's Kilmarnock, along with the strong squad of Dundee United also up there. If anybody is going to challenge them it's Dundee United. Inverness, Kilmarnock and Hamilton have nothing like the budget of Celtic obviously and not near Dundee United or Aberdeen's budget either so it's incredibly unlikely that these 3 can be consistent enough. Dundee United have a good squad, better in some areas but weaker in others than last season. Aberdeen I don't think they have nearly a good enough squad from what they banged on about challenging Celtic this season. It's not going to happen, but I think Dundee United will be closest.

No-one other than Celtic will win the league. The only mere possibility of it happening would be if Peter Lawell and Co. decided to keep Deila after Christmas in my opinion.
