maicoman
If you want to watch one of the most amazing stories in sport watch BBC Northern Ireland tonight at 8.30pm, Channel 953 on your Sky box. The film is called "Road" and is narrated Liam Neeson. It is mainly about the Dunlop family who races motorcycles on public roads in Ireland and the Isle of Man. Set over 4 decades the last 20 minutes it was the emotional thing I have ever seen. Described as "the day Hollywood came to Northern Ireland" as the drama unfolds the rider at the centre of this is just a 19 year old kid, described by the national press as "cinematic genius" belief defying, remarkable and astonishing. In Northern Ireland where the Dunlop's are the most famous family in the country, people were getting turned away at the doors of the cinemas as there was too many people turning up. On the main land is was hardly shown at all. Absolutely unbelievable story which is a must watch for the last 20 minutes even if you don't like motorbikes. It wasn't anywhere near the same watching it on TV compared to the cinema, just wish the last bit was made into a Hollywood film on it's own, taking it from when the rear wheel exploded during the Formula 1 TT 13 years before, that set the ball rolling, right up to that amazing day. if only Spielberg got to hear about this event! They didn't tell the true story at the end, as the first banned rider got onto the starting grid, it was only then that the other banned rider decided he was going to join him and race and so began the mad rush to get himself and the bike ready. As they tried to get volunteers to remove the first banned rider the bikes were overheating and the riders decided they couldn't wait any longer and took off on their warm up lap. That was how the second one managed to get started. The whole family are amazing, especially that poor granny...what those men in her family put her through! It is now on BBC Iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01jhws7/road
Co.Down Hibee
Both he and Robert were amazing individuals, can't be many sportsmen who would have had the dedication and integrity to their sport that they had ,it was a great watch.
