Ludo*1
I know, it's a shithole! The missus, however, has never been before and she wanted to go there for a weekend. I've not been in a good 15 year at least, so was wondering if there's any hidden gems to visit? Anything worthwhile other than the obvious Pleasure Beach and the other mundane tourist attractions such as Madame Tussauds?
Owsley
I know, it's a shithole! The missus, however, has never been before and she wanted to go there for a weekend. I've not been in a good 15 year at least, so was wondering if there's any hidden gems to visit? Anything worthwhile other than the obvious Pleasure Beach and the other mundane tourist attractions such as Madame Tussauds? Used to go every year as a kid and been a handful of times as an adult. I don't think they have a Madame Tussauds, I'm sure it's called Louis Tussauds, a rip off of the famous one and so bad it's good. Seriously, it's worth a visit! The prom has been developed since I was last there, when the whole front was basically a building site. I used to love Stanley Park but I haven't been in years. It's near the zoo, if that's still there. Probably not worth a visit outwith summer though.
Waspy
Blackpool is a riot at the weekend with various stag and hen parties, better heading down during the week. As mentioned above the wax work place is a cheap knock off and is so bad it's good!
The Blue Brasilion
Think the Louis Tussuads got changed to Madame a year or two ago but not worth the money you pay. Stay indoors at night though unless you want to see skin heads fighting doormen or drunk hen night girls laying about the pavement zonked out. Watch out also for the gypsies trying to force a lucky heather into your hand whilst trying to take your money at the same time, they will also mumble that they predict your missus will get pregnant soon. Other than that, enjoy!

heedthebaa
The wife had never been, so drove down midweek. Fucking hell, its teargas. A riot at weekends (according to the taxi drivers), but during the week its dire. Nowt stayed open past 10pm, as its just no worth it, as the streets were empty (and dirty). Highlight of the few days, a tram up to Fleetwood. Scarborough however, is brilliant, different gravy
Musketeer Gripweed
I was there the other year and was amazed to see the Bier Keller was still open. Some of my favourite nights as a teenager were spent in there. Fantastic boozer. I did notice the Doctor Who Tardis was no more. That was great when I was kid, it has Davros and everything. The fact it's probably a pulbic toilet now disappoints me. Distinct lack of prize bingo on the front now as well. Shitehole, but I love the place. Al B
Was there with the other half last month, I'd not been for years and she'd never been. Have to say if you are focusing on the shit bits then you will definitely come away having had a shit time, but if you go well aware of the fact that it's a bit of a shit-tip and accept it for what it is (aside from the newly revamped beach-side of the prom, which is pristine these days), then you'll have a great time. Highlights for us were: The Pleasure Beach - Obvious choice, but really is a fantastic park and if you are into going on the rides etc then you will genuinely wonder where your day went. Advice here would be to buy your wristbands online in advance for the date you want to go as you save a decent amount of money (collect them when you get there), and also right next to the dancing fountain show there is a burger place that does the best burger i've had in a long time. We got very lucky as the 3 full days we were in Blackpool were absolutely boiling even although it was September, with the day at the Pleasure Beach being the hottest. Best rides are Infusion, Revolution and The Big One. Blackpool Dungeons - Fair new attraction that's now in the building at the base of the tower. Same company that does the Edinburgh Dungeons and it really is fantastic. ALl the sets are unbelievably detailed, and it really does feel pretty creepy at times. The actors are all first class and as long as you don't mind a bit of interaction (not physical, it is stressed that no-one will touch you at any point), are willing to join in, and don't mind a few wee genuinely jumpy bits... then it is a fantastic way to spend an hour or so. There is a BIG finish that I won't spoil, although if you have been to something similar elsewhere then you will probably know the gist. Legends Show - This used to be at the end of the pier but has been moved to the Sands Venue just next to the tower building. It's basically a tribute show to singers and we went along thinking it would just be something different in a nice wee venue, and actually ended up being so impressed and having such a great night that wee booked to go back on our last night (the acts are split so half of them do a weeks run, then the other half to the following week and so on). The second night ended up not being as good due to the acts, but that was more down to how phenomenal they were on the first night. Saw Meatloaf who im not that much of a fan of but the guy was incredible, as was the girl who does the female vocals, but then Elvis came out and if you didn't know better you'd swear it was him. Look, mannerisms, voice...everything was absolutely spot on. If you go there, make sure you catch those two. Robbie Williams is fucking awful though....thankfully he's in the other half of the split so easy to avoid. The first night we booked the meal option, but the second time we didn't bother as the food is distinctly Wetherspoon-esque efforts at fancy meals. That's the only downside though...and even at that it's fine if you don't expect michelin quality scran. Final one to waste away some time - in front of the tower on the beach side of the prom they have the Comedy Carpet. Essentially a massive part of the prom that is paved with quotes from classic comedians, you can easily waste half an hour or so wandering across it giggling away to yourself. Also if you decide to go to the top of the tower, there is a new 4d experience included in the price before you head into the lift, which is pretty cool. I'd never gone to the top of the tower before so I really enjoyed it, but if you've done it before then it's probably not worth the money. The 4d presentation thing is decent though. Ludo*1
Arrived at the wrong time. Everything is shut. Anything worth doing is closed either until next week or over the winter. Shite laugh. Also seems to have a rather strict dress code looking at things online, such a shitehole. No jeans FS that's all I wear!

Ludo*1
Ended up enjoying my weekend away. Did all the touristy sites that were open then spent it in a club called Flares which was a 70s-80s nightclub. ETA: I was surprised by how shite English kebabs/takeaways are. Had two drunken kebabs, one from Flames the other from The Godfather. Both were rank rotten and promptly binned.

Ludo*1
Luckily I went to a Travelodge. Which was appalling. A double bed is also two single's pushed together apparently. And the English people I met down there were the rudest people I've come across in quite some time. Maybe it's just Blackpool, but the local's were unbelievably rude. paul-r-cfc
Not been to Blackpool since 2006 when I went with my u13s football team. Will be returning in April, this time as a coach with an U16s team so could be interesting Never went as an adult so not been able to give it a proper judgement although we did see a guy chased along the promenade with an axe which is never a good sign Loved the pleasure beach though and have been dying to return purely for that
