Paulbearer
thanks left half,so who was potts and tweedieI always thought The Tweedie cup was named after Tam Tweedie. He had the biggest boaby in Kirkcudbright back in the day
HibeeJibee
Mr & Mrs Potts were the owners of the Theatre Royal, Dumfries... Cree Lodge, Ayr was the residence of Mr John McGuigan, son of an ex-Newton Stewart player... Mr Allan Tweedie was a native of Kirkcolm... Those 3 cups were all named after their donor. As mentioned the Haig Gordon Memorial Trophy is in memory of the Southern Counties official of that name. 'Back in the day' there was also the Churchill Cup, donated by Rev WH Churchill of Moffat, an ex-Cambridge University player; the Law Cup, donated by Mr Law of Castle Douglas, founder of Law's XI FC; the Cafolla Cup, donated by Mr Cafolla of Newton Stewart; and the Candida Casa Cup - i.e. the Latin name for Whithorn Abbey - donated by Mr P Fisher of Whithorn. All the above from the excellent "Senior Non-League Football in South-West Scotland", by Malcolm Pagan.

CherryKitKat
Who/what is the Detriot Trophy named after? It's named after the home town of rapper Eminem. Real name Marshall Mathers, he has spent many years now throwing money into the south league for the benefits of all league and cup competitions. It was therefore deemed necessary to name the accumulated trophy in accordance with Mr Mathers.

P.S it's actually rumoured Eminem wrote the song Criminal about a corrupt SOS committee member
HibeeJibee
Interesting. I'd heard it was in tribute to Arthur de Troit, a valiant knight who slew the last great boar of the Stewartry. Evidently an apocryphal tale.

GallowayBull
I'd like to see a Crichton - Fleet Star final, but can't see it happening if I'm honest. Think the other 2 will be to strong on the day.
King Kenny 7
Haven't seen star this season yet but hear they are much improved, u never know on the day! Think most neutral fans will want the underdogs to win. Both teams are certainly capable of doing it, if they catch Newton or Wigtown on a bad day. Hopefully the reds retain it but Newton must be favorites with the good run of form this season very strong team
debian
Newton and Wigtown both prevail after penalties. By all accounts both were lucky to get there.

Tbh Wigtown were the better side!! Hard to play though after you go down to 9 and the manager goes in goals!! Great save by Mickey Dougan to stop their 3 penalty in the shoot out

WhyCantIChooseWigtown
the score line and the disipline doesn't show this. 3 off in 2 games Created far more chances!! Neily wasn't a red last weekend and nor was Curtiss this weekend!! Never saw what happened for Chunkys two yellows so I can't and won't comment on it!!
