John McGlynn would probably be perfect for Ayr. The style might be direct (to say the least), but he turned the fortunes of Rovers around from a team sitting 2nd bottom of the 2nd division into a solid Division 1/Championship team.

Congrats to McGlynn on his one hit so far in league management, supported of course by the usual raft of loan signings from his big club in the capital. He's been an abject failure ever since though.

If you could afford to pay off Stranraer Steve Aitken would be a good shout

Stevie is arguably the best-performing manager in the country at the moment- if any team has him in its sights it'll be one of the big guns.

What about a Jefferies/McGlynn double act, or Kirkwood/Henderson just to wind up itzdrk?

Has someone from Ayr shat in your coco pops? You've just turned up with a hatred out of nowhere....

No chance are Ayr getting Aitken. The only team that would in this league would have been ourselves. A team with a bigger budget in the Championship will take a punt on him probably.

His Morton connections make him an obvious candidate for that job at some point too, but I actually think the best thing for his career right now is to stay at Stranraer- another successful season with his limited resources could make him a prime candidate for the next big job in the Premiership or in England.

In the not-too-distant future, when Alex Neil gets his inevitable big break in England, Stevie would be an ideal successor at Hamilton IMO.

John McGlynn has been living off that league championship since 2008 and failed everywhere else.

He's a disaster of a manager, and a Jim Jefferies old school 'bark abuse at the players and call it coaching' style of manager.

Ayr would be better off with Tucker Sloan than McGlynn.

We should be clambering over hot coals to get at Aitken. The guy has basically laughed at us for two straight seasons on a fraction of the budget.

But Lachlan's early statements have inferred experience is the key. Get the impression he's done with the younger brigade and wants someone who's been course and distance.
