Morton v Brechin - Saturday 4th April 2015

Recommended Posts

Another cup final performance required and in contrast to last weekend, against a team we have struggled against this season.

I wasn't really sure about the line up lst week but after that performance, there is surely no chance that Duffy will make any changes to the formation or personel.

Nervous about this one. Cannot wait however. Come on !!!!!

Saturday proved that we are very capable of scoring a number of goals in a game if teams come out and attack us but a lot of teams have just sat back and hit us on the counter this season.

Are Brechin in the position to sit back and defend or will they need to come and try and win the match with Airdrie and Peterhead just behind them?

A point will not be a disaster for Brechin but they have not been guilty of sitting in against us this season so far. On each occasion they have had a go and we have managed only two relatively lucky points against them. I think they will fancy their chances given results so far.

I reckon they're sensible enough to know that the best way of winning the match is to sit in with ten behind the ball then try to counter attack. We'll need to be patient to break them down here.

This. Which is also why I'm seriously worried about the match. Doomsday visions of Bobby f*cking Barr scoring a late winner, and having to watch him get it right up us.

Time for Brechin to fall away from the top 3,a convincing home win for Morton

They already have and i doubt very much they will make the playoffs either.

Brechin- 4 points from 18.

Airdrie- 13 points from 18.

Must win for us.

If we can take three points from this game, that'd be absolutely huge for us. It's a game that we could easily walk away from with f**k all.

This ^ ^ .

It also applies to us .

If we win this one I think we will see a serious Morton wobble on the run in.

What makes you think that? We have recorded a win and two draws against Morton this season by attacking and taking the game to them.

That said we are going into this game on an awful run of form, so it remains to be seen whether we continue with that approach on Saturday. Big improvement needed if we are to get anything from this one.

We haven't beaten Brechin yet this season but they are on poor form at the moment so we couldn't have picked a better time to play them. Both teams need the points we're going for the title and Brechin need to watch their backs as Airdrie are just behind them now and they'll be battling for the last play-off spot.

Play like we did on Saturday and we'll win, play like we do any other week it could go either way.

It's the awful run of form that makes me think that, coupled with the fact that your win and the draw at Cappielow came when we were far poorer going forward and less likely to punish teams who left us with space to attack. Despite our improvements there we still massively struggle to break down teams who sit in, while our defence is extremely vulnerable to counter attacks and you have players who should be able to exploit that.

Obviously our defence isn't great with teams who constantly attack either and I'm not saying an attacking game from Brechin won't get a result, but considering everything sitting deep and counter-attacking seems to be the best policy.

I can't see any way we'll have the tactical advantage here, regardless of what Brechin do. Duffy in the Tele today: "The formation was a 4-3-and-a-half-2-and-a-half really."

Embarrassing.
