Deefiant
Ok so looks like I've been healthy ripped off by a local business. (Yes I'm a Dundee fan, yes you may find that ironic) Anyway I paid for £170 by debit card yesterday to my kids swimming club at Clearwater hydrotherapy in Dundee. They were delighted to take my payment. Just got an email from them saying the centre is now closed permanently as of today "statement to follow" I'm thinking they would 100% have known about anything of that magnitude yesterday and have taken my money for 1 reason only - to pay the tax man or outright barefaced dishonesty. I'm phoning my bank first thing tomorrow but am I gonna get my dough back through the bank here?

Bert Raccoon
What will happen is the bank will dispute the payment with the company, from what you said it does sound like you have a strong case especially if they have went bust. The only thing I would say is normally it's not the quickest process and can take a few weeks to claim the funds back. Best of luck.
parsforlife
Pretty sure it depends on if you have gone into overdraft or not. Gone into overdraft- get your money from the bank Not used overdraft- deal with the company directly.
Mr. Brightside
At least you didn't buy trainers from an obviously dodgy website.
Mr Bairn
I'm assuming they have lockers at the swim centre? Take your debit card to the pool and leave it in a locker near the dodgiest looking eastern Europeans in the place. Make sure you use the card PIN as the combination for the locker. SramTon
As you paid by debit rather than credit card, you don't have automatic statutory protection but the Chargeback scheme will likely apply (depending on your type of card) meaning you should still get your money back. Had to do it myself once. Link with more info here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback

Deefiant
Use the public pool. Public pools may be fine for Arabs but us Dees prefer our kids to swim in water with no chlorine and at optimum temperatures with a 1-on-1 coach for the child and no riff raff to splash or otherwise distract them. Is this a sea water pool you were attending? AFAIK all pools use Hypochlorite for water treatment, you deserve to be stitched up for being so dim. AFAIK all pools use Hypochlorite for water treatment, you deserve to be stitched up for being so dim. Hydrogen Peroxide and Ultraviolet Pool DisinfectionThe most effective method of achieving a chlorine free pool is the powerful combination of ultraviolet disinfection and hydrogen peroxide. You're probably familiar with hydrogen peroxide as a topical antiseptic for disinfecting a cut or bleaching hair. What you may not know is that hydrogen peroxide is a powerful oxidizer that can be combined with ultraviolet light to create a chlorine free swimming pool. The combination of hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet light produces reactive oxygen radicals that both oxidize and disinfect. These radicals are extremely powerful oxidizers that have an enhanced ability to destroy pathogens. HTH Looks like that has worked out well for the Dees. looks like I chased the expensive dream and paid the price. Heard that anywhere before? Apart from the loss of cash I'm secretly chuffed this has happened.... My Mrs wanted this place due to location and 1 on 1 tutoring. You pay for both and it was expensive in comparison to most other places. If I get my £170 back then it's win/win as I will save money long term. Mkregan
Took my wee one to Clearwater swimming lessons last year. Pure shite, waste of money. Pretty harsh taking your money the day before they go bust.

What you need is a private pool. I assume you used a debit card since your credit isn't good enough to qualify for a credit card.

I use a debit card because I'm cash rich* my good friend. My credit card is used to pay my shopping every week and in emergencies only. I then pay the card in full every month thus giving me an excellent credit rating. Thanks for bringing that up though. *Also I'd left it on the desk in my home office like a welt and am now suffering the consequences
