Myview
I think it's refreshing that so many club fans are posting promoting giving youths a chance. I have little doubt if all clubs gave youths a chance and I include all divisions we would see more young players progressing. They have got to be ready tho and not put under unfair pressure. The timing must be right. We have a clear example last season when Hearts were forced to play youths and although they initially took a number of defeats Locke kept their confidence high and from memory and I recognise it was against the bottom six they ended the season with 18 from 24 pts. However a few weeks ago Hearts playing their usual youths but only one came thru their academy. ( Btw I'm not to fussed whose academy a player comes thru as long as they get the opportunity to progress) . What do you think is going well or badly with your club's academy? Muzza81
So what clubs need to do is rip off a bunch of creditors, be forced to play youth players and sorted.

HeartsOfficialMoaner
We have signed 11 players this season, most of them are foreigners. We never won the league with the Hearts youth team. I guess we will let a few academy players (Robinson, Holt, McKay plus maybe Carrick & McHattie) go at the end of the season. They will be replaced by foreigners. Academy doing okay but could do better.
bennett
Best tell the radio Scotland guys that hearts never won the title with a team of kids.... A lot of pressure on McCall to go up this season but so far he's showed more faith in younger players than mccoist ever did.

Aylo vanal
Hearts Acadamy has provided us with players for our first team for years, last season it probably saved us. The problem for us in the next few years is there seems to be a gap due to neglect below what would in normal circumstances have been our u20 last year. We got a good bunch with Paterson, walker, king, nicholson,Mchattie and to a lesser extent robinson, holt,Mckay and carrick. I think from now on we will be looking at it in a long term manner with players signed and moved on at the right times to allow promising youngsters their chance in the first team. Arsenal have done this well over the years, moving on viera to let in fabregas etc.

Rangers must have a pretty poor record when it comes to youth players in the first team, especially given the amount of investment. It'd be good to see McCall trust some younger players but in normal circumstances I can see why managers at teams like Rangers don't go with youth. Teams sack Managers too quick so they often look at what's best short term rather than better for the club 2/3 years down the line. This is where a good DoF comes in imo. Myview
Just some added information. When clubs say that players come through their academy they mean picking up a youth under 16. Imo if a club pick a player up at 16 coach him to say 19 then he becomes a first team player I would say he came thru the academy. But not ' them' in power or who keeps the stats! These players have been brilliant for Hearts this season and no matter where they end up they will remember this season for all the right reasons. Just for your own information from memory it was Walker who was the only player to come thru the 'official' academy who played in the match. Paterson was signed from Tynecastle Boys Club. As a Hearts fan you will know that contrary to popular belief Tynecastle BC is not officially part of Hearts.

McCall is there a few days and puts Walsh straight in the first team. ( maybe Black saw him play for Stenhousemuir as I believe he frequently visits/stays in Larbert ) You know my feelings about McCoist!!

No it's not but I think there used to be a link and is one of the better boys clubs so we will always pick players up from there. I'd disagree with your definition of an Acadamy player, Paterson for example has developed a lot since I first watched him in the u20s so imo is still an Acadamy product. Just like everybody knew about Murdoch...And the other players yet to be given a chance. You seem to have a serious lack of knowledge of anything at Ibrox outside of the first team. Myview
Regardless who knew about Walsh, Murdoch or others the point we agree on is they have to get a chance. My point about McCall is that if he did not know about Walsh prior to going to Ibrox he saw enough to put him in the first team after two days. As said he may have been prompted by Black who I believe has seen Stenhousemuir this season. Many may have known about Walsh but would all have put him in the first team. Remember McCoist not only thought he wasn't good enough for the squad. He loaned him out to a low Division One club! No surprise when he only gave Charlie Telfer eight minutes as a sub! Arghhh! Don't disagree think Paterson came from Tynecastle BC when he was about 16ish? Think in the past before initiative pro teams started there was an unofficial link. Think Craig Gordon came from Tynecastle BC as well. Think also there was a similar unofficial link with Hutchison Vale BC with Hibs. Steven Whittaker Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown.
