Personal football injuries.

I broke my wrist when I was 15 playing for my youth league team. I went in for a tackle and cracked my wrist off the ground. I didn't realise I'd broken it and played on - I actually scored my only goal, a cracking finish from a narrow angle after a corner.

I went home and tried to sleep but I couldn't because the pain was so bad. My mum was so annoyed at me for sitting with my face tripping me she dropped me off at A&E and refused to wait, I walked home three miles after getting my arm put into plaster.

I think I know why you're a bad person

I broke my wrist making a save at Garscube back in September 2009. I went along to the Freshers Week football event thinking it would be a bit of fun as a kick-about. Turned out it was trials for the Uni team. I had a golf-ball-sized lump on the back of my wrist and the Kimarnock physio, who was at the complex at the time, took one look and told me to go to A&E. First 6 weeks of University I was in a cast and couldn't write!

Sprained right wrist, broken right fibula, broken bones and damaged tendons on 3 out of 4 fingers on left hand, broken left thumb. Not all at the same time but over the years. All are goalkeeping related and I usually have badly bruised knees after every match plus other random bruises from collisions.

I'm getting too old for this!

Damaged a ligament during a game 2 or 3 years back. Nothing serious but it was really frustrating as, like a lot of the stories here, it wasn't the result of a bad tackle, I was just running into space for a one-two.

Was only out for 2 months or so but because the ligament wasn't actually torn, this is a recurring thing and my ankle will just 'go' whenever it wants, regardless of whether I'm waking, running or standing still. It's happened 3 or 4 times since but thankfully it's never kept me out for any longer than a month.

Mind being really fucked off after the boys checked the pitch after the game and found a full glass bottle wedged into the turf round about the area that I went down, with just the arse end of it sticking out slightly. b*****ds.

Not me but the worst one I've seen - casual work 5-a-sides mostly populated by people aged 19 - 25 but we had a couple of old timers who came along for the bantz. They would inevitably end up in goal every 5 mins as the younger people ran about mental.

the oldest chap at 56 was in the goal when someone launched an absolute howitzer at him from about the halfway line and he pulled off a quite incredible diving save. There was also an enormous crack and scream that stopped play on every pitch in Soccerworld.

Never seen an arm like it in my life and hope never to again. There was a bone popping out at his wrist, his elbow was turned round the wrong way and the rest of his arm looked like an octopus tentacle due to the bones being all over the place. 6 separate fractures I think it was.

Being based in an office the work then attempted to ban everyone from games of 5-a-sides with more than 2 employees involved. Selfish old c**t.

I pulled a few muscles in my back and wrecked my shoulder on Thursday night. I've felt utterly dreadful ever since and cut about with a grimace on my face like an alcoholic Police officer. The back's so sore I can't sleep and if I roll onto my side I end up hurting the shoulder.

Prior to that I've got tendinitis in my right knee, which effectively ruined any chance I had of getting a good grade in Higher PE.

I'm basically Paddy McCourt when it comes to injuries. I broke my toe kicking a wall where I aimed for my brother and missed. It never fixed properly and is now at a funny angle.

Was it this wall?

Was it this wall?

 Aye, that's the one. Happened during a family holiday about 837 years ago, didn't realise the wall thing was still standing.

I've never had a bad one myself but I put a guy in hospital playing fives. I was through on goal and just hit the ball rather than placing it. It hit the goalie on the Adam's apple and he went down gasping for breath. I thought I'd killed him. He had to be taken to the hospital and he was eventually OK but my legs turned to jelly just thinking that it was my fault he was in such a state.

My ankle ligaments are still giving me bother from time to time although its only been maybe 5-6 weeks but its my calf muscle of the same leg thats giving me real bother. When I went down with my ankle I had a lot of pain at the top of my calf and a bit behind my knee as if I jerked the whole lower part of my leg but it went away but it would seem like I've maybe done some decent damage to more than my ankle ligaments. When I crouch down the pain in my calf and the shaking that comes off it suggests some definite damage, anyone any ideas what it might be? Think I might head to the physio for a check too.

Concussion

Three broken knuckles on left hand.

Dislocated left thumb.

Fractured pinkie, right hand.

Torn right hip flexor muscle.

Pulled left hamstring (twice)

Torn right hamstring

Tear of my left MCL

Pulled left ankle ligaments ( 3 loud pops as I turned and possibly the most pain I 've ever felt)

Sprained right ankle several times.

In my defence, I don't think I'm that injury prone. It took me the best part of 20 years to accumulate that list.

Same thing happened to me when I done my right ankle ligaments the second time, went to shield the ball and kind of stood on the ball slightly before my foot hit the ground which meant it contacting at an angle and the motion of my body forced all the weight on my foot and since it wasnt planted flat it totally crumpled underneath me and heard three loud cracks and thought I had broken my ankle. Was just the air bubbles popping.

Look like a bloody tit lol

That picture haunts me as I have been in that splint on 3 occasions all due to rupturing my medial ligament and quadratic muscle. Had to give up football completely after the third time as I simply couldn't afford to live on sick pay anymore.

First time was in a competitive game when my studs got stuck on he turf and a defender went over my leg 8 months on crutches then rehab.

Second time was in my come back game. Came on as a sub in the 60th minute and was off 5 minutes later. All I had done was turn!

Third time was playing fives. Changed direction when sprinting and fell over. Mates shouting "get up min!" Me replying "I fucking can't!!"

Next few months will be frustrating. You feel useless and helpless but it does get better. Listen to what the physio says and follow all the exercises he sets for you. You will hate him/her as they are sadistic and feels like they are trying to hurt you! post-32843-1431594837517_thumb.jpg

I am currently having my own problems with torn ligaments in my hand! Hurts like hell and the tramadol just makes you dry in the mouth and itchy!

If you need any help or advise just ask!

The only time I've had a stookie on was when I broke my scaphoid (wrist). When the thing was removed, apart from the common bad smell and weight loss issues in that area, my arm was like a gorilla's - hairy as f**k. I had the arm of Harry Larkins.

Has anyone else ever experienced this strange phenomenon?

The shaking/instability suggests you've either torn your calf or indeed you've partially torn it. Get to the docs!

Any update on your knee?

I was at stracathro for an X-ray on my wrist yesterday and they now think I have several hairline fractures as well as ligament damage and I still have no idea how I did it!

Once I did fear a fractured eye socket after winning a header and then coming down onto the back of the head of the opposing striker but it was just really deep bruising.

Was that the cup game that went to penalties? Cause that was without doubt the worst head knock I'd seen at Sunday League, absolutely bogging.

When I was 17 I cracked an ankle 5 minutes into a two hour fives booking, so just went in goal, and walked home. By the time my old man came home an hour or two later I was unconscious on the sofa with my ankle the size of my head. Spent Freshers' week bumbling around Dundee Union in a pink plaster cast picking up sympathy winches, so not all bad, tbh.

Seeing my pal (very much not a goalkeeper, but a willing volunteer) pull off his keeper gloves after saving a howitzer only to find his thumb pointing the wrong way is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
