SweeperDee
You've just walked into your cosy office after forming a majority government (Whether it be in Westminster or in an independent Holyrood). What policies would you introduce? Where in the political spectrum would you place your respective party? Is it an already established party? Or is it one which you have created and led from the ground upwards? Education: What changes would you make? Economy (including taxation): What changes would you make? Immigration: What changes would you make? Health Care: What changes would you make? Social Security: What changes would you make? There's more areas which you could change, the above is just an example. ETA: Sorry if this has been done before; I couldn't find a thread like it using the search function though. MassiveFanDan
If in power after May, I would ensure that mobile phone companies would no longer be allowed to shut down your phone and nick any credit you had left on the account if you hadn't used the thing in six months. I know it's a Mail link, but this story wound me right up, as intended: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3026396/Grandmother-died-trying-call-help-collapsed-phone-company-disconnected-mobile-not-used-long.html That's a ludicrous liberty they are taking, is it not? It's like if the guy who sold you a car was allowed to come round and syphon the petrol out of your motor if he felt you'd left it unused too long... This could come across as a Murphy-ish attempt at populism - "whit do the plebs care about? Drink at the fitbaw and the credit on their mobiles?" - but it genuinely disgusts me. The traffic situation at the Deepbone roundabout needs dealt with anaw.

MassiveFanDan
Burn the records of quantitative easing, legalise all drugs and introduce empathy training for DWP staff. Addie
Economy: I would close tax loopholes on offshore bank accounts. I wouldn't be too bothered about raising the 40% tax threshold as the closure of loopholes should raise more. Education: I would actually listen to the teachers and start treating teaching as a profession. Investment in teachers is needed to avoid the shortfall in years to come. Immigration: Hmm tricky one, I was initially keen to look at the points based system but seeing some examples in Australia doesn't look too great. Scotland has an aging population so we need more families. Our NHS has benefited enormously from immigration so perhaps Teaching? Health Care: scrap the link with health and social services. The two just don't mix well at all. I would also invest in the GPs we already have and back them. Then I would add incentives for Drs to train as GPs. I.e. Golden Hello and increase the training grant to Training Practices with money raised from the tax loop holes. I would definitely invest heavily in Primary Care. I also think there should be penalties for those who do not attend three or more appointments. Patients rights / patient's responsibilities. Social Care: Scrap the bedroom tax & add food vouchers for those who are on benefits. Too many food banks, too many hungry folk - time something is done. Quentin Taranbino
- Free fruit and veg available for every household every week. - Ensure all doctors surgeries are open until 10pm at least - Make it illegal for Supermarkets to bin food that's still good to eat. Each town would have a fund/company that collects and distributes to the homeless. - Make it almost impossible to be living on the streets. I can't think of much worse than being on the streets in winter in the pishing rain freezing your tits off and no money for food or drink. - Increase the prices/tax for alcohol and tobacco heavily but offer all treatment for free to kick the habits. - Introduce a 'free 6 month' trial for small/local businesses properties in towns and cities. I.e you pay no rent/fees for the first 6 months (only pay energy bills and insurance). No commitment for more than 6 months - All council/govt leisure facilities to be free for under 12s - All abandoned/empty shops in town centres to be turned into 'charging rooms' where you can go in take a seat and charge your phone/Kindle/Ipad etc for a small fee. Once shop is needed for above '6 month trial' then it is used for that instead. - Take dental checkups/treatments off the NHS. People can either pay through the roof to have a private dentist look after their teeth or they can keep them in good nick at a young age and not bother with a dentist. - Ban all printed media (newspapers/magazines) from 2030 onwards. Go digital or GTF - Every household to receive 1 free national rail journey a year for members in their household plus 50% discount on accommodation. No family should go without a wee trip away because of money - Optional wheelie bins to be offered to all residents which would be a 'charity wheelie bin' and every couple weeks it comes and collects all stuff that would otherwise have to be taken to a charity shop. - Introduce online voting for all types of elections. Introduce an app so that all local and some national decisions can be voted on by the public. Get notifications etc when you need to vote on something and allow a you to read up on it and make unbiased decisions based on the facts Would anyone vote for me? WullieBroonIsGod
Payday loans would be a thing of the past. They are just preying on the vulnerable. Same goes for high interest payment schemes for goods like Brighthouse. I would also regulate private rent tariffs and impose a "second home" tax. A home should be just that, it's a basic need and not something that someone should be making money on.
