BAWS
Seeing as our national team are far from blessed with quality centre backs at the moment, if you were the gaffer who would be your pairing? Hanley is ALWAYS in there for me. Scotlands best centre back by a distance, gives us a bit of height in a small squad and is only 23 so it's fair to say he's going to be our main defender for years to come. Would have Berra next to him.. In my opinion a better defender than Russell Martin and also has that little bit more pace than Martin which could be vital playing alongside a relatively slow Hanley. Have to say I don't dislike Martin, I think he has done a good job at the back for us but I just think we have better than him (albeit, not by much)
Blootoon87
Hanley and Martin are our best partnership. If either of them are missing, my preference of replacement is Greer (short term), Berra, then Reynolds. Oh and incidentally, Martin is a babe. The Grass Is Greener.
IMO Martin is easily our best Cb, easily.

We bemoan the lack of big strong defenders who'll make opposition forwards think twice about trying anything in our box - but Hanley's exactly that. He isn't fast but I wouldn't say he's hugely slow either
The Grass Is Greener.
I'd say Greer is as good as Hanley, he's been great when called on. Hanley is rightly ahead of him because of the long term though.
gav-ffc
Martin is one of the best centre backs i have seen for Scotland. Him and Hanley please.

Richie95
Martin with either Hanley, Greer or Berra.
Gordopolis
Seems like Souttar has sort of faded away from where he was two years ago. Still young but hopefully not another false hope
SpoonTon
Hanley's a decent defender, but he makes mistakes in just about every game I've seen him play. Usually a lapse in judgement or trying to make up for his lack of pace. I suppose it's a compliment to his ability that I'd still have him alongside Martin as our first choice pairing. I can't claim to be that happy with any of them, but they've been doing a decent enough job. Greer and Berra are the obvious backups. We have struggled to produce (or find) decent defenders for ages. Savage Henry
Seems like Souttar has sort of faded away from where he was two years ago. Still young but hopefully not another false hope Every time I see him he's brutal. Just awful. I see a healthier Gary Kenneth.
RandomGuy.
Souttars still only 18. Realistically hes got another four or five years to develop before he should be getting judged for the senior side.
craigkillie
Hanley, Greer, Martin and Berra are all fine. Not great but will get the job done most of the time. After that we're struggling.
BAWS
Forsyth playing at centre half for Derby today.. Has done the past few weeks apparently and been pretty impressive. Would be good to keep an eye on that one. I honestly think Hanley is our best defender, I just don't share everyones opinion on Martin (although I don't think he's shit) I think it's because I have family who are Norwich supporters and they seem to think he's a fantastic pro but mediocre defender who will struggle now he has lost the pace he had from a couple of seasons ago when they get back in The Premiership. Why not just use your own eyes. Martin's played numerous games for Scotland and been superb. Forsyth has been pish at cb for derby, fans on his back apparently

I also said I don't dislike Martin but the Norwich fans don't seem to be fans of his, which doesn't bother me aslong as he performs for Scotland! Just wanted to find out who everyone else would choose as their CB pairing.
Gordopolis
I haven't noticed Martin being fast a few years ago or slowing down recently. He seems fast enough without being lightning quick and has been pretty samey performance-level wise for Scotland since he's been with us (Norwich fans obviously see him a lot more regularly tho). stuart87
I think Russell Martin has been very good for Scotland. I seem to remember him being outstanding against Croatia away. Martin & Hanley first choice for me.

pub car king
I think Martin and Hanley work very well together. Hanley is a big brute who will get stuck into anything a 1980s model. However Martin is the calm experienced pro who talks him through it. Seems quite an intelligent player.
