Wasps vs Coos At (more or less) High Noon

Recommended Posts

I remember reading an interview with him in an Alloa programme, the nickname went back to his days when he played with Easthouses BC (where he was a team mate of Davie Watt) went along the lines of him always having his arms around opposition players all the time.

You know far too much. It's scary sometimes.

I just remember reading the interview in a programme, a lot of folk reckon programmes are out dated but good stories and facts can be found in them.

We tried to sign him in 1988 when his good mate Davie Watt joined us from Easthouses but he had already been snapped up by Alloa, although he did eventually join us towards the end of his career for a short spell.

Even if we go down Saturday is a game to look forward to, in recent years - ever since the Stenny penalty loss - we have triumphed in these winner takes all deciders. It may be our turn to lose it but these are the reasons why we watch football.

A big, vocal support backing the side is just what we need.

Agreed - hopefully we'll get a big turn out for this one. Already shitting myself for it - gonna have to have quite a few beers on the way down!

I think it was even earlier than that, his first coach at Edina Hibs I think it was saying something like "look at you son, you're all arms and legs, you're like a spider". He did indeed have the choice between Alloa and Cowden back in 1988 but was very impressed by Gregor Abel and signed for the Wasps, much to the disgust of Davie Watt apparently.

All set for a cracker at the weekend. Great situation for Cowden knowing that win ensures 8th place. Unfortunately I think for us that 9th is the best case scenario as Livingston on current form will almost certainly beat a QoS side preparing for a much bigger game a few days later. But, had you said back at the start of the season that we'd go into the last day knowing a win secured a play-off we would probably have taken it, and I think we'd certainly have taken it when Cowden got those 2 wins earlier this month and pulled five points clear. It's been a momentous season for Alloa in some ways so fitting it comes to down to a momentous occasion. If we can't win this we will deserve to be back in the Second Division next season.

I'm with Waspie on his closing sentence. No hard luck stories, no blaming referees, no excuses. Whoever loses will fully deserve to go down.

I'm really looking forward to it. I hope all the players are looking forward to it as well. These are the games you want to play in. It's like a cup final for small teams like us... Let's hope for a similar result as Alloa's last cup final appearance ;)

Maybe QOS will see it as a chance to dump a full time side from a league they might be playing in next season.

More likely there's a number of fringe players and under 20 year-old's looking to make an impression and secure a space in the play-off's and maybe a contract in the premiership?

One things for certain; we won't be taking it lightly - too many times this season we've managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Livi will win and stay up. Whether it is via the playoffs or not. They are better than any team that they could play in any playoff if it's required. Alloa v Cowden is very difficult to predict. IMHO.

Could have been at Edina Hibs he got the name just remember reading his interview in an Alloa programme and he said it was one of his coaches who gave him the name.

I can remember when Davie Watt signed for us, I was helping with some pre season painting that fans were doing at the ground and Spider was with him Davie told us that he was signing on for us but his mate had joined Alloa.
