I cant believe they actually closed the website

beware p&b, we racked up over 15thousand between the 12 binos here on our own forum, so watch out for a huge increase in posts here

Excellent - P&B has recently doubled our available disk space and increased our bandwidth by 25% too so bring it on B)

I can't believe they actually went and closed it either

Personnally I think more of an effort could've been made to keep the messageboard at least as I see no reason why this could not have happened and I've not heard any explanation either. Most of the stuff on it "wasn't the clubs official views" anyway!

Sad to see it go, it was always one of the better official websites in Div 3.

Whats the best official D3 site now? I'd go with Peterhead*, though Montrose has to be up there

*Note: just cause I "run" it!:D

I'm confident that SAFC will have an Official Site sometime soon in the future.

Best official site? Montrose probably*.

* not saying Peterhead cause I don't want your ego getting any bigger although if you lose tomorrow I might change my mind about saying it to make you feel better :P

Don't know if any of you Stirling fans out there have read this http://www.geocities.com/stirlingalbion200...ialwebsite.html, its a review of the official site's demise on the 'World's Worse Stirling Albion website'. I think its run by the guy who's user name was safc2003 on the forum.

I found it a very interesting read, even though I didn't necessarily agree with all he was saying. He makes some comments about the '20 year old males' on the now deceased forum, so its particularly revelevant to sereral users of this forum as well.

Hope this fits the bill:

The Worlds Worst Unofficial Stirling Albion Website

On Friday 7th November 2003 an on-line era came to a close. The Official Stirling Albion Website closed down.

And so it was that the official Stirling Albion website was no more. On Friday 7th November 2003 the website shut down for the final time.

What led to this situation and can any lessons be learnt, join us as the Worlds Worst team take you on a trawl through their opinions on what happened.

We’d like to start by saying something nice about the site : and it did look good and has an advantage over us in that it had pictures, comments and much much more. However the website had a couple of failings that have led to the sorry state of affairs we are currently in…

1) No Criticism : the Worlds Worst team stopped using the official site during the Ray Stewart era. Despite watching the worst Albion teams ever struggle to avoid the ignominy of finishing bottom twice in a row the website was never critical of the manager or the players. The most explosive word uttered would be “disappointingâ€. Yes it was an official site and they should look to the positive but to whitewash over the gaping holes at Forthbank was a silly move and left the editorial team open to harsh criticism on other web sites.

2) Responding to Criticism: In days of yore when Red Web, the then leading Albion Website, had a message board it was full of complaining fans who wanted Ray sacked and how did the official site respond to this? They used their page in the Albion programme to launch an attack on the Red Web posters and called them immature and hiding behind meaningless log in names. Posters who were afraid to leave their own names, who were scared to be seen criticising the club. This piece of opinion was placed under the name of Scot Mclean, the then editor of the Official Website, and can be seen, in our opinion, as a jealous attack on other websites that were more popular than his own.

Recognise Anyone!

Red Web faded for a while as the fans enthusiasm was drained but it’s now great to see the site back up and running.

3) Message Boards : The Official Site launched message boards to try and compete with Red Web and this can now be seen as a major factor in the downfall of the site. Over the past three months we have been browsing the boards and looking at the posts therein and what we found was a major surprise. It appeared that all of the posters, around 20 regular posters, were males aged around 20 and felt that they represented the best interests of the club. No matter what the board said or did the message board would disagree.

Our sources inside Forthbank suggested that there were those inside the club who were unhappy that a vocal minority were trying to upset the apple cart on a regular basis. (Mind you our sources within Forthbank also had to be told who the Albion players were as the Chairman had not told them!)

4) MB Cont.. : The boards also contained a lot of bile directed at individuals. Certain posters who just happened to be hiding behind cowardly user names were regularly flaming visiting fans with a level of vitriol that would have them arrested on the streets. We can think of two individuals who were consistently abused. There is a line between abuse and jokes and some posters were regularly crossing the line. The editorship of Message Boards online needs to be stringent and too often messages which were offensive to individuals were left for the world to view.

5) Match Action : about a month into the season the club decided that images from the games could no longer be posted on line as they came from a video of the games in question. These video images are copyright protected and the club HAD to protect themselves against the wrath of the SFL. Yet this decision was met on the site as a personal affront to Albion fans.

The House That Peter Built, and don't you forget it!!

6) Scotland : During the run up to the Scotland v Lithuania game as a great gesture to the fans the December 27th game was brought forward. Now this game was on the same day as Scotland v Lithuania, to read the Website you would think that Peter MacKenzie had personally gone round and burnt down their houses. For us Scotland come second to the Albion and whilst we were disappointed that we couldn’t make Hampden the outpouring of contempt for a man who has kept the Albion alive was disgusting.

The final straw appeared to be the Scotland v Holland game being on the same day as Albion v Queens Park. A game that was arranged in Mid October suddenly became more important to the vocal minority than a game that has been in the fixture list for 5 months. Again there was a massive outpouring of anger and rage directed at the club. We hold our hands up and say that we tried to head it off at the pass by listing reasons why the game should still go ahead on a Saturday but these appear to have been ignored.

With the announcement of the Albion v QP game staying on the 15th this seemed to trigger a resignation or two from the web site.

7) The Supporters Trust: With the site scheduled to close down a call for arms was made for people to keep the site going, we would have offered but think that our suggestions would have been knocked back, the Supporters Trust decided to try and get in on the act and take over the site. This was knocked back by the club and the site folded. As a last cankerous flurry the young men on the message board again vented their fury on the Albion board wanting petitions and boycotts and calls to other media outlets to inform them of the situation. Boys with toys!

Well we for one back Peter MacKenzie and his stance on the supporters trust. The ST has been spotted outside Forthbank twice in 18 months, both times we ignored them as an organisation that wanted change at Forthbank and a seat on the board was handing out leaflets in a Sunderland top!!!!A horrible person playing for a horrible club!

An absolute disgrace, I’m not backing someone that wants to run my club and yet they can not be even bothered to turn up in Albion apparel. Imagine the Tampa bay Buccaneers owner turning up at Old Trafford in an Everton top.

So there you have our views on the closure of the official website. We hope that it reopens sans Message Board and Egos and with some new ideas.

A cosmos without an official site is scarcely worth thinking about. One day it shall come back, yes one day, until then go forward in all your beliefs and prove to us that we are not mistaken in ours.

There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream, people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea is getting cold.
