Ya Bezzer!
For some reason I started looking at Detroit Street View on Google Maps and I've become absolutely captivated. It's unbelievable. It's literally like someone dropped a nuclear bomb on it. Roads crumbling away. Huge numbers of vacant lots, abandoned and burnt out houses, ruined factories, some areas have almost been reclaimed by nature with trees and long grass growing up through the pavements, some streets seem to only have one or two inhabited houses in them and have apparently been otherwise abandoned. It's weird as f**k. What can you find?
Kryptonite
Is it not the poorest city in the States? Certainly had a dramatic fall from grace after the car manufacturing industry stagnated/went into decline.
1320Lichtie
On my phone so can't do this but I regularly do this on my lunch break. Spend forever just randomly looking at places on maps. Love zooming away out from the map and randomly dropping the street view man on a big clump of blue and seeing where I end up. Sad I know. The Vatican was the best random drop in I've had. BFTD
It's been like that for fucking decades too. The Zuckers and Jim Abrahams (of Airplane! fame) have been putting digs at Detroit in their films for a good forty years at this point. Makes you wonder if it was ever anything less than a hellhole. Andershen
This is good time waster if you enjoy Google Maps. https://geoguessr.com It randomly drops you in 5 different locations and you have to find clues and pin point where you think you are in the world. I got one within 30kms once, proud moment.
wellfan09
I tried this last night, first two times landed me in pretty nice, leafy suburban neighbourhoods and then the third in a road full of mansions...

diegomarahenry
There is a good documentary about the Detroit fire department, who are basically skint, they turn up to fires and asses if it is worthwhile putting them out, if it isn't then they watch it to make sure it doesn't spread. http://www.detroitfirefilm.org/

Fuctifano
Did that Geoguesser thing on the UK only map, 3rd picture I got dropped somewhere, thought it looked familiar, turned out it was half a mile away from where I used to stay in Newcastle. Didn't realise you could switch it to UK only will give that a bash as the African/South American ones are tricky.

Fuctifano
The famous places one is good for either showing off or showing yourself up (until about 5 minutes ago I thought Mount Rushmore was in Arizona and was completely unaware of a set of famous Roman ruins in Turkey), although it did drop me at 2 different views of Neuschwanstein Castle twice in the same set of 5 - both of which I got- which suggests the pool is quite small. Smurph
For the worldwide one I went for Chile instead of Argentina, Netherlands instead of Estonia, and Botswana instead of South Africa. I was a state away from some barren road in America and a few districts away from somewhere in France. Thought it was a reasonable effort. The UK one I found harder, since I was dropped into fields every time bar one, where I was two km off. The roadsign nearby did say Dorchester 5, Weymouth (12) and Bournemouth 35, I just clicked on the A37 instead of the A35. How foolish of me.
