Next Season's Big Kick Off

Recommended Posts

To start on 1st August - same day as League Cup 1st round.

First round of Premiership fixtures going to be decimated by at least 1 postponement due to Hearts being in round 1 - possibly 2 games postponed if Hibs/Rangers/QOS come up. No doubt Celtic will be disappearing to play the Harlem Globe Trotters in outer Mongolia too. So potentially we could be starting the season with just half the league in action.

Absolute farce yet unsurprising. :(

Premiership starting 1 week earlier probably makes sense - I note the CL Final at the end of the season is 1 week earlier due to Euro 2016. Should be underway in early August/even late July as matter of course anyway, IMO.

LC format remains bizarre, should be:

R3 - 4 clubs in Europe join

R2 - other 8 from Premiership + 2 from Championship (relegated clubs ranked highest)

R1 - 28 remaining lower-league clubs join

or if Falkirk win the Scottish Cup:

R3 - 4 clubs in Europe join

R2 - other 9 from Premiership + 1 from Championship (relegated clubs ranked highest)

R1 - 28 remaining lower-league clubs join

This having promoted clubs in R1, and relegated clubs in R2, and one non-CL/EL qualifier in R3, is nuts.

Pretty sure the league cup first round was the same weekend as the first SPFL premiership games last season, and as thistle were due to play in both we simply played the league cup game in midweek. Don't see any reason it'd be different this season coming.

We're not going anywhere this summer, Deila's been talking about staying at home to focus on preparing for the qualifiers

I doubt that will preclude you cancelling a league game to head-off to the Dublin Supercup, or playing Liverpool in a friendly, or similar.

Does any other European league allow these cancellations, btw?

Last season Dundee and Accies played in R2 although there were no Premier games. Rangers postponed their game as Ibrox was being used for Glasgow 2014 despite the draw not having been made.
