My mate took his grandson to Hurlford last week to see Hurlford vs Irvine Meadow and was charged £2.50 for his grandson at the gate, this was the first time he has ever been charged entry at any ground in Ayrshire for his grandson (aged 10) including previous visits to Hurlford, anyone else been charged for kids at a junior ground ?

I can only say the opposite, I took my boys aged 8 and 11 to Hurlford for the semi final and the guy in the gate didn't charge for any of them. I thought it was a nice touch from Hurlford

he was at the same game and wasnt charged that day, but was last wednesday against the meadow

Never been charged at any junior ground for my young lad (Now 6).

However I never hand over more than a fiver.

Exception Boness v Arbroath

Suppose they had no choice that day.

Under 16s accompanied with an adult should get in for free as a general gesture to encourage more kids to attend but no rules on it and can be charged £2.50. When your on a gate & if busy you may not be able to see age of kid or if a kid and just know two people came through and charge £7.50 or even £10. Up to person paying to inform guy on gate or just hand over £5.

I was at this game and wasn't busy, awful weather and poor crowd compared to a Saturday game when should have been played so maybe being unkind to Hurlford but possibly trying to get in every penny possible...?

My son aged 11 gets in free at most grounds but recently charged at Musselburgh. I always make a point of buying £2 or £3 worth of raffle tickets when not charged. Must admit with him going to secondary school after summer I expect and will gladly pay for him.

Junior football is dirt cheap as it is and the bigger clubs are trying to run a competitive business in very restrictive conditions. If the boy is going to be charged at an SPFL league ground he should be charged at a Junior one.

Was probably somebody different on the gate - I know that's not really an excuse, but a possible reason. I wouldn't expect to pay for accompanied kids anywhere.

Having said that, I had a child's season ticket at Blair Park in the seventies and it cost a quid - mind you, you could have bought a house for 300 quid then :-)

I think you should always expect to have to pay to get into semi-pro football. Then it's a bonus if you don't. We're free to primary school kids ie 11ish or under. You then have to pay £2.50 for secondary age kids. Do u expect your kids not to pay at the pictures or to get free food ?? We give out lots of free tickets to primary schools as well

I think the problem does arise in cup games where opposition committee count the people through the gate then expect half of the expected gate as their share, for league games it's basically up to the home side to decide whether to charge or not, I'd be in the don't charge side as get the kids hooked that's your fans of the future

primary school aged kids should be allowed in free for league games.they will probably spend more than the admission money in the canteen than most adults would do anyway.

Totally agree.

What irks me a bit is the freeloaders coming on the team bus trying to pass themselves off as committee by arriving early.
