AFAIK this guy takes the total wage bill (all staff) for clubs then divides it by the number of players, however he arrives at that figure. Moronic if that is indeed the case.

Their research methods are opaque. They say they source from published club accounts, but failing that will use players' unions and players' agents. They probably thought they might as well make it up, so they did.

Moronic, perhaps, but they've got a lot of column inches for something so stupid.

And Saints don't even publish a wage bill - it's all bundled under admin expenses. They simply can't extrapolate from that.

The guy is a complete fucking charlatan, and it pains me to see so many folk giving his work prominence.

Also, why on earth would we care about an average wage bill? Total wage bill is much more relevant - it's not as though different teams have to field different numbers of players.

If two teams spend the same amount on wages, but one goes for a smaller squad of better paid players while the other has a bigger squad on lower wages, the former would have a higher average. But they'd be spending the exact same amount and the difference would purely be down to a strategic decision to allocate resources differently.

Seems a bit pointless without listing the total wage expenditure. I know in the past the SPL would release their finances and you'd be able to browse the pdf. Does anyone know if this will/or has continued with the SPFL, even if it's just for the Premiership clubs? Or will you have to track down the individual clubs from now on?

:( Aren't these 13/14 figures anyway? So aren't relevant to this season?

Yeah, it says so in the second paragraph, and the article includes Hearts and Hibs but not Dundee or Hamilton, so it should be obvious anyway.

Even though it is for last season, though, St Mirren's figure is surprisingly high.

Aberdeen fans have been lying to me, we don't pay 100 times what they do after all.

With all that oil money I'm surprised they haven't topped the highest paid club in the world yet because they are that famous n aw rat.
