19QOS19
Having seen the difference in price between PS4 and PC games it's got me swethering whether to give PC gaming a go. Is it possible to get something decent for under the £400 mark? I don't really want to spend much more as I'll only be using it for gaming and internet browsing and even then I'll only likely buy titles for it that I'm not definitely wanting for PS4. Ta muchly! I don't personally do gaming on the PC but a few guys I know do. As far as im aware for proper gaming you need high end stuff and I think its better to build a custom PC
GiGi
Under £400 and you're really tight in terms of budgeting for even a mid end pc. Take out your peripherals (screens, mouse, keyboard, sound) and you could get something that will play most games to a decent standard. Really though I'd recommend spending more to keep it a bit futureproof too.
Just a bairn
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/guide/kTYcCJ/best-bang-for-buck-gaming-pc-accidentally-deleted That's a much better system than any console. I'd also recommend upping your budget if possible though.
Yoshi-91
Depends on how well you want it to run, what kind of fps you are looking for and how high graphics settings you want. My first PC I built for around £400 but that's not including peripherals. My second PC I bought from GladiatorPCs but that was a much bigger budget, although I am sure they cater for all price ranges, worth a look. GiGi
Haha aye the budget always goes up as you get more demanding. My first was £400, second was £600 and then the latest was over £1000. It's addictive.
EdgarusQPFC
My current PC has cost me about £500 total but it does everything I need of it I can even play the Witcher 3 in 1080p with a average fps of 40,i couldn't go back to consoles now, I love my rig
Tamdunk
I'd like a better case, I've still got my original cheapo one that's pretty cramped. I reckon I'd upgrade that and my PSU before doing any more component upgrades. Don't really need to as I can still run things pretty good on current setup. Never seem to have any spare cash for it these days anyway though.
madwullie
If it wasn't for fifa I'd probably punt the ps4 and stick with PC. My formative fps days were spent on pc so find mouse and keyboard much more intuitive for those games. Only problem is it can become a bit of a money sink trying to keep up with increasing requirements for new releases, when a generation of a console will basically do you four or five years at least. Ramagamma
It's kind of a double-edged answer. Firstly, £400 is almost nothing for a gaming computer, to put things into perspective (and also to brag a little) the gaming PC I built last year was around £2000 including mice/keyboards/speakers/microphone/monitor and everything else in between. £400 would get you a basic machine which could run games OK but at that price-range you would be just as well owning a console for the performance your PC would give you especially if you are starting from scratch and need everything. Secondly, big budget AAA titles are becoming rarer and rarer on PC, looking at the releases for the rest of 2015 there is almost nothing exclusive to PC that would really utilise a powerful rig. Witcher 3 is the latest high-tech game (i've still got the first 2 to finish though) that would really make a substantial upgrade show it's power. Apart from that what is there? Another Batman Arkham game? Another Call of Duty. Whoopdie-fucking-do. Frankly smaller studio games are the in thing now and those games are the kind that simply don't require a powerful machine. Personally I couldn't live without my PC. I play a few games that are PC exclusive and having my entire Steam library available at a click is a convenience consoles can't match, just depends what you are after. I might give FIFA a try on the PC when the next one comes out. Got a controller for the PC so might be worth a go.
madwullie
It's meant to be OK but far too easy to hack thus rendering Fut a total farce and that's the only mode I'm interested in. In saying that, ps4 was a joke in this respect too this year, but at least cheating in the actual matches is less widespread.

BFTD
Worth pointing out that building your own PC is an absolute piece of piss these days. Literally like building a house out of Lego; you just plug it all together and away you go. Get a guide online and you're sorted. Make sure to use an anti-static strap though, as you can kill the parts with a single spark of static. Even if they survive, I used to work with a guy had been part of a group funded to test the longevity of circuitry, and one of their conclusions was that parts handled with anti-static precautions outlived those without by several years on average. Not sure how true that is, but I figure it's worth wearing the damned strap. I built myself a new machine back in April for about £500, minus a new monitor that I got at the same time. Don't have the specs to hand, but the general idea is that you get a quality motherboard and PSU, then build up from there. Use the benchmarking sites and get yourself the processor and GPU that provides the best value-to-performance ratio at the time, and replace them after a couple of years when they stop being able to handle the latest games. You'll probably still be able to get about half the money spent back by selling them on ebay. Get it right and your PC ought to last about as long as a console generation (maybe 5-7 years) before you start getting antsy for a new machine. I'd had my last one since 2007 with a fairly cheap processor and GPU upgrade about halfway through that time. Oh, and get an SSD, even if just a small one to put Windows on while your apps and games go onto a traditional hard drive. The difference in performance is massive. Dave1875
I am looking to hopefully build a pc soon. Just need to work out a budget and what parts I intend to buy (which will obviously dictate the budget). Thankfully I've also got a few friends who I play Minecraft & GMod with who all have pretty good computers so I'll ask their opinion. A guy whose channel on Twitch I mod did tell me that £500 can build a PC that is better than next-gen consoles... not sure though
