SweeperDee
Game is a whole different beast, especially after the latest free update. Wouldn’t be against donating money to Hello Games after all the stuff they’ve done to make up for the patchy release (even though it was Sony’s fault more than anything else).
Hamish's Passenger
I bought this game upon release and gave it a few hours before chucking it completely. What game modes are people playing on? Is the normal version had much of an update. I’m concerned that the survival mode will be too much of a grind, albeit may be a tad more interesting.

If you’ve not loaded it up since release then you won’t recognise it if you load it up now. It’s had numerous free, huge updates that have overhauled pretty much everything.
forameus
Yeah, compared to release it's very, very different. After their first big update I loaded up an existing save and had to chuck it through the sheer weight of new stuff. If you fancy starting over, it'll probably feel like something completely alien.

I like the thought of doing f**k all but mining away and floating about in my wee spaceship. I am loading this up and starting again.,
Hamish's Passenger
So are most folk just playing it on the ‘Normal’ mode setting?
SweeperDee
Bored already and uninstalled. They can play around with the cosmetics but it's still a mile wide and an inch deep.Where in the main story quest did you get to?
SweeperDee
building a base, couldn't be arsed getting the materials to build the next thing on the list.Ach, I’d argue to stick with it but if you’re not feeling it at that point then fair does.
SweeperDee
It seemed to say you needed to make a base to research materials needed for other stuff. I've got zero interest in base building, can you ignore it and get stuff without it?If it’s the one where you needed to find specialists to help you with your base building, then yes you can pretty much ignore it. Focus on on the Atlas Path/Artemis Quest like if you can.

The stations are much more vibrant than before. Can you see other players in the rare chance you'd encounter each other? Yes. Once you make it to the hub/Anomaly you can do co-op missions, trade with other folk, chat with them, teleport to community made bases in different galaxies and systems.
forameus
I've played 3-4 hours of it so far on a new game and feeling like I'm getting to that point too. There just doesn't seem to be that escalation in the gameplay loop to make it interesting enough. Death Stranding was ultimately repetitive, but each time it asked you to do the same thing again, it threw a little bit more at you each time to keep things fresh. With NMS, you've just got to really like exploring new planets and scanning things. I don't doubt that later in the game I'll get to build more stuff, and I know you get vehicles and stuff, but that doesn't help if I've already gotten bored before I reach that. I'll keep it as my "spend a few hours" kind of game, and I will always think Hello Games have done an incredible job after their rocky start, but don't think it'll ever grab me in any meaningful way.
NotThePars
Aye it’s a cool idea, I’m glad that it exists and that HG have been able to rebuild their reputation over the years but I just don’t think it’s for me as it doesn’t grab me at all.
